I liked your video.We live near Alibates and I have taken many of my classes to see it!You need to come back in October on a Saturday.The rangers take you on a tour on private land to the village of the Native Americans that dug out the Flint.You can see the remains of the rock houses that they lived in, and the petroglyphs they made of a turtle and a big foot!Call and get on the list you have to have a reservation. It is free but only in October!

Great place to visit. We had a great park ranger who conducted the tour. I loved having opportunity to pick up, inspect and photograph the pieces that some Native American had held 1000 years ago. Looking forward to a third visit if we get off covid restrictions.

Cool. Yeah I definitely recommend that area. My video probably doesn't do it justice. Being from southeast Texas, I was very impressed by this "big sky" landscape.

We visited Lubbock Lake which was the site of one of the oldest known native American settlements. Just south of there.

You were lucky to see the horned lizard. Texas has tarantula too

Back in the 1960's and 1970's Alibates wasn't developed and friends and I would go and look for artifacts. Not many were found and there are several depressed areas that were Paleo Indian quarry pits. They would sit and make shaped arrow heads and projectile points. There have been Clovis and Folsom points made out of Alibates flint, so that takes the date back to at least 10,000 BCE. Clovis and Folsom NM are not that far from Alibates, and Folsom NM is close to the Canadian river as it meanders Westward to its headwaters in New Mexico. Alibates "flint" is agatized dolomite; It's hard and is easy to knap into blades and arrow heads. It will spark when struck with another piece or steel, so it's also used by Indians to strike a light to make fire. I've heard it's been found up to Canada as well as the Great Lakes area. It is real distinctive looking with reds, purples and white flecks and bands.

I hunt deer at Lake Meredith. It truly is a magical place.

spotted you guys on 'Cupcakes Corner'. Clicked in and we like. loved the tour in the museum. we think you have much more history than many Americans realise. Incredibly rugged countryside. Wow that flint is amazing and cant believe how much there is !! What kind of spiky Lizard was that 1st one? :-) Sub & Like from us guys - all about supporting from here in the English Lake District.
