True story: A long time ago, my cousin's bf jumped 👊🏾on her. They'd been in an abusive relationship for years. I was back from college when she called all frantic🥴. So I called my other cousin (street guy). "Let's go over there & f*** dude up👊🏾👊🏾 for beating on her." My street cuz was like "Ok cool, lets go f*** him up👊🏾👊🏾. BUT know this, she gon go right back to him. And whatever we do to him, he gon take it out on her even worse😮.....bc he CAN'T do s**t to us." That was one of the coldest🥶 lessons I ever learned.

If you’re are willing to go to her rescue then be willing to check her as well. I’ve seen people die for less trying to check someone else.

i can name countless times brother have stood up for me. Now that you said that, it makes me wonder why. Was I a girl they liked or wanted to date? I had a couple of brothers run me from going to an area where the wild people hang out. The girls in the neighborhood, who could never get me to go out with them, because I listened to my parents, told me, you graduated from school, they can’t tell you what to do anymore. So I started walking to the front, which is a club where everyone hangs out. These girls were younger than me so they were still in school and they never listened to their parents. Two brothers seen my mom standing by my house and asked her, where is she going? My mom said, on the front with them hot girls. They said, oh no she not and ran to come get me. They caught up with us and asked me, where do you think you're going? One of the girls, who was a cousin to one of the boys said, she finally old enough to go hang on the front with us, so we going have fun. The brothers said, oh no she not. She going care her butt home. The cousin said, y’all not her dad. Y’all can’t tell her what to do. They said, we not your dad and we know you never listened to us but she going home. All the girls started protesting. The brothers just looked at me and pointed back towards my house. I looked at the girls with a sad face and told them, they said I can’t go. The brothers said, it’s bad enough they make us have to fight for them while they dress like that. For you, we would kill someone because you are the only, well dressed, respectable sister we have in the neighborhood. Don’t make us lose the last hope we have left. I walked home. They all walked to the front yelling and fussing all the way there. My mom had the biggest smile on her face when I walked back home. Those brothers told me later in life, if the other sisters listen when they told them things to protect themselves, life would not be so hard for our people.

True story: I’d just buried my mother and was experiencing deep grief. One day I was on the train in NYC. A BM gets on the train performing. He runs past every white woman and says, “why are black women so bitter and angry! Y’all need to be soft and delicate!” I was soooo grief stricken, I could not believe what the heck was happening. I began to defend myself and tell the gentleman to get away from me. He got more incensed and commenced to get in my face, out of nowhere, another black man blocked him and told him to back off. He also said to the man attacking me, “brother, how in this moment can she be delicate when you are attacking her! She has the right to protect herself from you!” That man waited with me until the train stopped and he escorted me off the train. When I got off, the man who defended me said, “ I noticed you had been crying on the train, are you ok?” I told him my situation…. In one swoop, GOD showed me that some BM see me as the enemy and others SEE ME! I love my brothers. Thank you.

I grew up in a culture where people intervene in situations that seem unfair. Stranger or not, they won't let crazy situations transpire in their presence. It usually deals with the deescalation of a situation before it becomes something where people have to get into a physical altercation. It is also a culture where if someone does something evidently wrong, they might have a number of people in the community gather to "rectify" the situation. I find it interesting when (mostly) American people complain about people not "coming together," but at the same time make it very clear that anyone outside of their family is not their people. You can't have the benefits of a community and the numbers and power that come with it, without also carrying the respective responsibilities. My culture definitely isn't perfect, but I have seen a great deal of benefits and even privilege from being a part of it.

Now we have people expecting others to sacrifice and keep themselves to traditional standards while they don’t hold themselves to any standard. That is not community that is being a sucker. @@kem1233 this is a really bad argument, if it's based in logic. What you are saying is essentially that black men are the primary ones hurting black women, that's because most black women are married to black men. It' like me saying most parents are the ones abusing children because most instances of child abuse comes from parents. Do black men have more issues that lead to dealing with things violently? Probably, but lets chill with this narrative and focus on that part. The problem is women, most especially black women, seem to think that protection is the idea of a man simply attacking anyone who may slightly hurt her feelings or annoy her. Conversely, men think protection is preventing a problem from happening in the first place. There are too many women who seem to think that they are never wrong or never try to deescalate a situation. They always have to have the last word, have selective hearing, or think that their attitude must be tolerated by everyone simply because they are women. This coupled with a woman's already low situational awareness is recipe that has claimed the lives of many men or caused their incarceration. A prime example of this is that woman whom wouldn't sign the police officer's ticket.

Before I even got up fully out of my seat, half the restaurant had emptied out and they were already on his head. He looked like a sweatshirt in a spin cycle, there were so many people mashing him out lol. The sad part was that she was trying to save him from the asswhooping… but, he still got thrashed. But, what was the most memorable about it was how those men just automatically activated. Nobody had to say anything. It wasn’t a case of just one guy and then others followed. Nah, everybody went into protect mode simultaneously. Completely unspoken.

He waited until my king left the house and came to take one of our trucks. I was holding the door open, yelling for him to get out of my truck. When those brothers lined up on that levee and asked me was everything ok, the brother in the truck yelled out, yeah we ok! They said, we didn’t ask you! I looked at the dude and said, I don’t know Frank, is everything ok? Frank said, yeah, you can tell them to leave. I said, I’m not telling them anything until you get out of my truck, lock the door and give me the keys you have. He did as I requested. I then looked at the long line of my brothers on the levee and said, we ok now brothers. Thank y’all very much. One of them yelled out, we right on the other side of this levee, so if we hear the queen raise her voice again, we won’t be asking if everything ok! Do you understand? Frank said, yes. He said, yes what? Frank said, yes I understand. My cousin Kim said, daaaamn, you show b’ed up like the punk you really are real quick didn’t you? She said the cuss word though, because she from the streets. Frank bust out and started crying like a woman at a funeral. It scared me because I never seen a man cry like that before. I said, Frank please stop that, what is wrong with you? He cried out, look how she talking to me. He thought she already knew his business. I said, oh hell naw. You need to move back into the house with your wife to try and get your manhood back. You let a nasty looking punk buy you out of your marriage and manhood. Now he ran off on you and stop paying your rent, after he used you. Boy go home to Tiny. She don’t know how far you have gone with this. She thought you moved out because you had another woman. He hugged me and said, ok. I said, before you return to your wife, you need to fix the way you walk now. Put your butt back down and stop twisting when you walk. I don’t know if he got his wife back, because the girl that works at the bar told her that he was dating the owner of the bar, who is a big fat nasty looking man. He looks like he has aids. Havent finished it... But as a black woman it just feels good to hear. I have 4 older brothers and my parents were married up until my mother passed last year... I didnt have any protection for real. I never felt like i could call my big brothers and they would handle it growing up.. Being grown ive had a couple of instances where they have intervened because they were around. But i was fully prepared to go into live or die by myself. I was thankful but had they not been, because of not establishing that earlier..i dont even know if i wouldve called them. And i think they would blame and look at me different afterwards. Idk. Just my experience.

@@ShawnMega after a certain point no. Everyone was too busy with they own lives to stop and see if I was ok or how they could help. So yea, eventually you just stop seeing that as a viable option if that's never been the case. I don't know many men that have that mindset like Ali, young or old. So I guess it just depends on how those men were raised I guess.

While I was away playing Football in College, my Mother kept calling and B'ing about the problems her and her sister caused by going from Aerospace Executives to Cocaine Addicts. My Female Cousin was in danger of becoming a Ward of the State and her older Sisters had some trouble as well. I came home at the end of the Semester and never played Football again. That was 35 years ago.. My Mother is still a F*** Up.

All of those women aren’t under your covering and you STILL protect them. We not even talking about preventive protection (leadership), we are just talking about the reactionary protection of a pitbull. Yes, a black man will kill you for disrespecting his mama. But most of those women you barely come into contact with won’t give you a simple smile and a good morning throughout the day, let alone take any kind of direction from you to AVOID trouble. An example is when Asian men were beating and kicking BW out of their hair salons. A random black man broke the store window with a brick and told BW to no shop there and to leave… they damn near cussed him out and he went to jail for his efforts. So let’s not confuse “protection” with simply being a guard dog. A guard dog doesn’t care about the situation, circumstances, who is right or wrong, the morality of the conditions etc. he’s just there to bite, NOT lead.

If black men didn’t protect black women then “I’m gonna call my brother/cousin to beat yo ass” wouldn’t be a threat that gets used regularly.

If you don’t need no man, than get protection from women.

Therefore women, please use this resource of protection wisely. Don't go starting trouble, then when you realize you bit off more than you can chew, dont go lying and gassing up the men who will protect you.. to sending them off to their graves or prison. And men, dont be as emotional as these women to jump head first into a battle that leads to your detriment or demise like that Donique Jones and Travis Rudolph story. Both black men and women, please be wise.

This is funny but the question isn't "How do we protect Black Women?" It's how do we create a safe environment for Black Women so they don't need protection. A did way of looking at the argument

This argument that black men are the ones abusing and hurting black women is such a bad point. It's like me saying most parents are the ones abusing children, because most instances of child abuse comes from parents. Do black men have more issues that lead to dealing with things violently? Probably, but lets chill with this narrative and focus on that part. What this narrative does is paint all black men in bad light, even though black men are the primary ones defending black women too and that is exactly what Ali is saying here.

Protecting a woman in many cases is helping her protect herself. I always have a discussion with the woman to see how she put herself in the situation before I make a move
