Alfa Romeo Scratch Build Series
Welcome back to Pro Shaper Workshop with Wray! After a brief hiatus, we're diving into the fascinating world of AI design in automotive restoration. In our latest venture, Wray explores the revolutionary potential of AI in creating car designs that could redefine custom car building. Through the use of the AI tool Mid Journey, Wray and his team, including Mark, have generated hundreds of breathtaking car designs, sharing the most striking ones on social media and now, directly with you in this video.
Wray reflects on the evolution of car design inspiration, from waiting for monthly car magazines in the '50s and '60s to the instantaneous, limitless possibilities offered by AI today. This shift has not only invigorated Wray's creativity but has also led to significant changes at Pro Shaper Workshop, including the transition from traditional 4-day classes to more intensive, project-driven 30-day classes, catering to those deeply passionate about automotive restoration.
The highlight of this video is the decision to build an entirely new car from scratch, inspired by an AI-designed Alfa Coupe that echoes the elegance and innovation of late '60s Italian design. Wray outlines the ambitious project's scope: constructing a tube frame, shaping an aluminum body, and crafting the interior and dashboard, all documented in what promises to be a comprehensive and engaging video series.
The project kicks off with the acquisition of a donor car, an Alfa Romeo GTV6, chosen for its potent V6 engine and balanced transaxle setup. Wray shares his excitement and plans for the car, including the technical challenges and the creative solutions they anticipate employing throughout the build. This ambitious project is not just about creating a unique car; it's about documenting the journey, sharing the knowledge and passion for car restoration, and showcasing the potential of AI in automotive design.
Join Wray and the team at Pro Shaper Workshop on this extraordinary journey, blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, as they bring an AI-inspired dream car to life. Don't forget to follow Wray's updates on Facebook and KZread for this project that promises to redefine what's possible in the realm of custom car building.

Wray, I think that you are really on to something. Doing a full project, with the classes, will be inspiring to students and watchers alike. As important, it will be interesting for you and your team. No one else on KZread is doing a full, AI inspired build. Way to reinvent and inspire! Thank you for the videos! Customer and admirer, Carl Carlson, AZ
I, too, really enjoy watching your videos Wray. They remind of the times that I spent there. It has always been a mystery to me how you get the body panels onto a frame. And attach all the other necesities. So I am really looking forward to this series. I wish that I lived closer. Pete
I own 6 Alfa, including a 1984 GTV6 Maratona. What Wray has is a SOHC 2.5 V6, rated at about 150 Italian horsepower. I also own two 24 valve DOHC 164s, they only brought about 600 of those to the USA. The top end of the 3.0 SOHC's is the 164S, which was rated at about 210 horsepower. The 24 valve engines were stretched to 3.2 liters but that engine was not imported to the USA. I'm thrilled with this build, as I always dreamed about going to Wray's and building a GT along the lines of an Alfa TZ2. By the way, the TRX wheels were only offered in the USA on the Maratona, I have a set. Trying to find tires is impossible.

Coker tire had some remade years ago. I don’t know if there is enough market. But back then 4 TRX MICHELINS were more than 4 new traditional wheels and tires

Italian horses tend to be small.... it surely would be better to get one of the later Busso engines.
Awesome Wray! Can’t wait for the series!
Looking forward to it Wray! I think this will lead to a lot of views when you get a bunch up with people "binging" videos.
Glad to see you back .This project is and will be fun to see the progress.Having never built a complete car from ground up especially figuring the frame/ uni body and suspension ect. I now see how you will project you drawing from a.i applied to the board . My seat belt is on.
I live in northern Wisconsin and had an Alfetta GT I disassembled years ago that was about as rusty as your car. I was completely shocked when every single fastener came undone perfectly like they were brand new. Suspension, steering, motor and tranny mounts, everything.
Great to see you back wray looking forward to new videos. Australia.
Lovely to see this approach Wray. Cannot wait.
Soooooo excited for this! The Alfa Romeo GTV6 with the Busso is one of the most beautiful sounding engines of all time! Its a dream to one day take the class and build a late 50's Italian-inspired spider (think Maserati Birdcage, Ferrari 250 TR, etc).
Look forward to watching the build, thanks Wray 🙂
I had a 2 liter Alfetta GT, the four cylinder version of this car. Very good handling, very well balanced, but became a rust bucket. Also had a Milano, the four door sedan with this 2.5 liter engine, a very sweet unit, revved nicely and made a great sound. I've long thought that this powertrain would be really good in a 105 series GTV. Or, as you are going to do, a Typo 33 Stradale type car. Alfas got so quirky, controls and switches scattered in odd places, the horrible rust issues, after many years of owning and working on Alfas I finally gave up. I currently daily a 2016 Mazda MX-5/Miata, bought a 2016 Jaguar F-type 3.0S manual coupe last May, have a 2006 Jaguar XJ8 VDP coming Monday. But a project like yours would be a dream. Back in the '80s there was a small company marketing an Alfa GTZ 1 kit car, multi tube frame, fiberglass body, would use an Alfa donor car for running gear. This will be a wonderful project, I look forward to following it, the stuff of dreams.
I find nothing wrong with inspiring others to learn something. I look forward to the build. Thank you.
Looking forward to following this build. Even if it takes 3 years, the people who will follow this have long attention spans, because we want to learn. Leave the ‘cut and grind’ 10 minute videos to others. Thanks for passing on a lifetime of knowledge.
This deserves to be prime time tv... Fantastic choise of build and also donor. Looking forward to see this.
I am super excited about your new project. Can't wait to see the next episode. Please kelp this content coming.
Hi Wray, You are realizing my dream by designing and building a complete car from ground up with an aluminum body. I have been contemplating doing this sort of thing for several years now. Perhaps this will be the just the thing to get me started. I eagerly await the forthcoming videos.
The four cam 24v engines were only available in the US on the 164S. It was also a 3.0L. Nothing wrong with the 12v 2.5L you've got, but if you want more performance it'd be worth sourcing a 24v. I'd take those wheels off your hands 😁

I'll have Mark try to source that!
In South Africa, we had the 3.0l version which was homologated for saloon car racing. Ive only just discover your channel, but im subscribing & clicking the notifications, so that I don't miss an episode. The AI rendering is absolutely stunning.
It will be fascinating to see a gem made from a render and a wreck. Please don't take as long as Tim Allen`s car, wow.
Awesome, so looking forward to this build and having you back on a regular basis, so excited to see how this progresses.
This is the sort of project I dream of doing. Subbed.
Looking forward to this project. My builds are modern donors with 30-40's bodies to get the best of both worlds. :)
The comment you made about bouncing around is spot on. I love watching you create things. I was looking forward to the Scout series and it just seemed to disappear. This build will be epic and I will be following it for sure.

I sold my Scout collection off. I came to the realization I never want to fight the rust demon again.😁😁😁
Hi Wray, looking forward to the build! Small correction: the 2.5l Busso engine used in the GTV6 is the twin cam version ... 🙂
I can’t like this enough!!!
Looking forward to watching this build Wray.
Im looking forwards to the series on the build ,,, as Im sure are many.
Fantastic news! I'll be right here watching the whole story! 🤩👍
Wow, really awesome design and starting direction! I need to talk to you about your 30 day project class soon.
Love the idea, really excited
Really looking forward to the series 👍👍😎👍👍
That sounds like a good idea, I can't wait to see it
Отличная новость ! Конечно мы все бы хотели увидеть работу мастера и впитать урок мастерства для самих себя . Буду признателен за урок ! from Russia
I haven't looked your way in a while and boy am I glad I chose to look right now! This is exactly what I would do, and I might have chosen this drive train! I am looking forward to watching the progress.
Oh! This is an exciting project for me (a great form of video “content”). I am delighted ⭐️
Looking forward to the series
Will be following along! Thanks
Good stuff Wray, I have been a dreaming of this type build for years, the Busso v6 is one of the best sounding engines ever. I'll be looking forward to every episode.
What a great idea! I am sold
Can't wait! Will be a fantastic series. I've alway thought your channel should do a full build with the talent you have.
I drove a gtv6 for years, 85 2.5. I loved it. The motor is the best v6 ever made,in my opinion. The sound of the things is fantastic. I have a spider that I’m using things I learn from Wray to make it much lighter. Wray is the king!
Looking forward to this!
What a truly exiting project. Documenting each step of the build will be fascinating and allow you to show your exceptional metal working skills. Can’t wait !
This will be great to follow Wray. I love the old Alfas. My first brand new car was an Alfasud 1.5Ti in 1979.
Fantastic Wray love it
Great to see you back at it. Would love to come to one of your classes, Ray. This is a great project!
This is gonna be hot. The AI pic is more '55 - '63 vintage imo but hey a modern interpretation of a 6C2500 or TZ2...👍👍
Nice car❤
I can't wait for this Wray, I've missed your videos so much, this is one of my favourite channels on You Tube and inspired me to do a restoration of my own.
Been following your page and KZread for years. Love the new AI designs and can’t wait to see for some come to life.
Can't wait to follow your journey with this project! I for one, will watch all the videos.
I like this plan!👍
What a time to be alive!

What an exciting project! I love your enthusiasm and vision, Wray 🤘
We can all dream.. you make the dreams come true, and oh man! that AI designed Alfa, just superb. I'm so looking forward to seeing this being built.
You want to build 2 ?, what a sensational looking car
This is exciting 👍
Cant wait! This will be a great series. Excited to see how you go through each step
Subscribed! This is going to be great.
I feel like the door and wheel fender don't have a curve like that, the door looks like it is as wide as the fender at the bottom so it doesn't need that curve. I could be wrong but that's how it looks to me.
Sounds great but would be nice to see how you are making out on the Cadillac or to finish the Studebaker pickup. Just my 2 cents.
God above! That's an incredible design! Can't wait!
Excellent project 👍
hi wray. can't wait to see this Alfa project progress. fantastico!
Stunning build! I am hooked! 🇮🇹👏
Thank God you’re back Thought I’d need a shrink for my withdrawal problems

I was sick for nine weeks, just getting back to full strength. Thanks for the appreciation of my efforts.
Absolutely love it!!!
Looking forward to this series. Props to Mark for learning the Ai design process. When I tried it I had extra wheels coming out of the roof and some crazy looking car designs came up. On another note. What became of the metal working class cars? Did any get finished? I worked on some panels for the 550 when I was there.

The class built projects will be on hold. I like the idea of original design more than copies of icon car designs.
This will be an epic project!
Thank you so very much for coming back to KZread! I'm anxiously waiting for your series to start again.
You gave me the ai bug aswell I just redesigned a 34 chevy roadster im building and its crazy that I can just generate a render all I did was trace a roadster shape on a sketch program changed it to how I wanted and AI did the rest now I just have to chop channel and rake it out 😂
I'm very excited about this build Wray.
It's your vision, your opus Wray. Count me in.
Can't wait till you get started .
Glad all is well. Miss your Videos. Looking forward to seeing the start to the end. #STAYSAFE #PHILLYPHILLY 🇺🇸
Wray, make sure you keep all the electronics as you part out that car. I know you talked about webers, and there were some South African GTV6s, and an Alfa sedan that came with those. Very expensive and hard to find. I'm sure you can make up a manifold on your own.
Yay. Always watched your work, but did not like the lack anything getting finished.

This is going to be a good one for sure we can’t wait Wray we were just talking about you a few days ago
Can't wait to see this project Wray. 😊
Great idea.
Heads up, that's not a 4 cam motor, that's the earlier SOHC engine. I have a collection of these engines as I build them and do R&D on them.

Yes, an earlier comment informed me. Thanks!
Can't wait for this project to take off! Would be a shame to put wire wheels on it though. But I am open for what you will come up with.
The AI design of the Alpha Romeo is sexy. That would look great in my garage.
Great project! Congratulations for the audacity
found out about this on Instagram. logged onto YT to watch the vid but read about you on Facebook. (you get around....but then I do as well). did not know you were ill but you looked quite a bit thinner Wray, in this video. go a bit easy. stay well. drink Johnny Walker Black and you'll be as good as new.
I would love to see a build of a 1956 Mercedes replica.
What about the GTO you were wireshapping in the back of the shop? That would be a great car to do a full series on too.

I'd like to see you finish that Cadillac.

Stop it! Esteban is slowly working on it.
interesting direction you've chosen Wray. look forward to seeing the progress. what also comes to mind though, if the new Alfa is to become a running, driving car, what would you do about things like glass, windshield and other one off components? cheers. E.
@proshaper
4 ай бұрын
I will have the glass made if I can't find something that works. The glass and the wheels will be the biggest expense, everything else is inexpensive.
All it needs is a big turbo 😉
Hex tube frame it is easier to measure
the wheels are probably TRX, strange mm size. came on the Grand Prix model.
A build like this is a real winning concept here on youtube. Just keep the uploads regular (preferably once a week, always on the same time) and you will get lots of dedicated viewers. I can name at least one.... 😀
I wonder if that engine is what is referred to as the Busso engine?
@proshaper
2 ай бұрын
Yes sir! It is a 2.5l 12 valve Busso.
I was just having a discussion with a friend about the various metal shaping channels, and how I think Pro Shaper is the best, but I wish Wray would do some videos showing a project right to completion, but not really thinking of a whole car. This is going to be good!
Hey mate. Are you green screening this? Lighting looks a bit out...
@proshaper
4 ай бұрын
No green screen. We didn't use any extra light jut the overhead in the building.
Your stealing my idea except in a coupe. I guess I got to watch now.
Wray, those wheels are metric, hard to find tires for, but they are my favorite Alfa wheels ever made. I had them on my 85 gtv6. If you want to sell them, please let me know. By the way, there is a company in Boulder, Co that is making exact copies of them, but in 15” and 16” size for $735.00 per wheel.
