    I noticed it was way easier to see your work with the wire with a solid white background. The contrast is better than having all the machinery behind the wireform.

    Car looks great, I think rolling the engine and trans behind the wire frame would help visualizing the scale and that windshield looks like a Triumph Spitfire, that would also be a hard point to work from.

    NONE of the cars we all love and enjoy existed before they were a drawing or just an idea in someone's head. Question for you Wray: Considering the expense and complexity of having a custom windshield made, what about designing around an existing windshield? Maybe ask the AI to include a windshield from another vehicle such as a Triumph or MG or ???

    We are definitely thinking about using a pre existing windshield but at this point are still unsure. When we start to really fill in the hood with secondary lines, we are going to see how a few of the windshields we have in the shop fit into the wire form.

    Before creating the body, it would make sense to define the inside space for the occupants to sit, move controls,see out, &c, so the body can fit around that volume. An outline on cardboard should be enough to prevent any conflicts.

    We're in an era of generative AI that will never be repeated. Although there is even better to come, in its very imperfection and limitations the AI generation in these early years has traits that will have been "bred out" of the cannier AIs that will surely follow. Although every day there's a chance of finding an even better design, picking one and getting started is a chance to build something "of the era." I've picked mine.

    $h!T! I'm in trouble now....I built 2 fully enclosed all aluminum "unibody" style snowmobile trailers....built my own bender and roller to facilitate this project...and I thought I would never do another "body" project....but now...I find myself visualizing another "always wanted one of those" projects Damn you Wraaaay! 😆😆😁🤪😁🤪😁🤔🤨😁🤪🤪

    @@proshaper In 1999 I moved from Northern Virginia to the Lakes District of New Hampshire. I sold my home built English wheel, metal brakes, and lathe. My unheated two car garage is occupied with a 2006 Jaguar Xj8 and a 2016 Jaguar F-type, but I've daydreamed of opening up my basement to allow a car in. It has heat and good electrical service, 220. A man can dream.

    The few times I did complete ground up built I always set the wheelbase by positionning the front and rear ends, a mock up of the tires diameters, position the engine and trans or a cut out of them and the driver seat because it tells me if there's room for a pedal assembly and if I need to widen or lengthen the habitable zone. So I know the volume occupied by the main components and that it's comfortable. I need to visualize those things. Maybe because I don't have your experience or that you actually can do things because you just know or can visualize things in your head. I recon that having those mechanical components in the way can be and are sometimes a pain, plus that means occupied shop floor and it can't be moved around. I never did wire forms, but for my next one I will definitively. I'm paying $10 for 10ft of 5mm wire in my country so it's definitively not as good a deal as it's in the US.

    If I can teach my employee Mark to do this, then anyone can! Mark came to me with zero knowledge about anything, he was just an office guy. He listened (sometimes) to my direction and learned from many mistakes, but now he is my right hand man!

    Think of the Jag x 120 drop head coupe when determining the hood length. The extended cowl makes for a gorgeous long wheel base and long front end.

    Hi Wray & Folks, J’adhère totalement au design et la façon de faire le master de carrosserie avec ces stubs, effectivement bien plus efficiente que la méthode du contreplaqué bien plus fastidieuse. Ah si seulement l'IA pouvait nous donner directement les mesures pour les profilés de pliage et pas seulement la forme generale, ce serait une facilité supplémentaire pour l'aboutissement du rêve de Mr ''tout le monde'' pour créer sa propre voiture...

    Juste comme une forme de suggestion quant à déterminer les dimentios, une fois que vous connaissez le diamètre des pneus que vous allez utiliser, vous pouvez utiliser un dessin de grille en papel et mesurer les dimentions de la hauteur du pneu et utilisez-le comme outil de mesure. Par exemple, le haut de l’aile avant est de 1,3 hauteur de pneu... l’empattement est de 3,5 diamètres de pneus d’un essieu à l’autre... et cetera.

    Mr. Wray, I don't want to teach you how to do your job, but watching the beginning of the third episode and the creation of the wire template, how you start with the design, one question arose that seems logical to me. Why didn't you put two tires that will be on the car? That would give you some image in my head regarding the height, and of course the wheelbase I think is important for the entire scale of the car. Thanks for the answer, and I'm looking forward to the next video (it can be longer, I don't mind :)) Greetings from Serbia

    Thanks so much Wray - I’m lovin’ this! A few observations for fun: 1 - I can’t help thinking the windshield’s a bit too far forward to get the Ferrari GTO-like proportions I see in the illustration. 2 - The GTV was a 2+2 car. In this sports car remake isn’t the driver gonna be sitting just a little forward of the old back seats? That means there’s going to be a lot of room between the new dash/firewall and the engine, right? Can the engine be slid back in the chassis? 3 - I’m torn about the rear-end treatment! I adore cars with tapered tails like old 911s and boat-tail Alfa Spiders, but it’s hard to deny Kamm tails like the 250 GTO and Daytona Coupe. Decisions, decisions! Maybe something in the middle like a Triumph GT6 Mk1 or Karmann Ghia? I’m always looking forward to the next one!

    I would say that given you are using a donor vehicle, use the same wheel base as a starter and track width also to mark out a rectangle to give you something to start from, with the frame you made in the middle and go from there

    We will work on the GTV motor and components, not on the car itself. Work on the components will be months and months from now.

    Have Mark look up photogrammetry. You have one known dimension of the AI car {wheelbase} due to the donor car. you may also know the wheel diameter? Doing it manually, using a dividers on the picture's wheel centers and transfer that wheelbase to graph paper. Then using the dividers you can take any measurement or line (tracing paper) off the pic and transfer it to the graph paper. Having the one known dimension allows you to come up with a scale to enlarge any part of the pic to full size. There's the complication of angle on the pic view so it's not a direct measurement, some math involved there. I understand there's software that will do all that for you, but have no experience in the field

    Thanks for making this series Wray! I'm so excited to see how this comes out. I'm wondering, would it make sense at this point to identify a donor windshield that might work? I think P1800 was discussed along with other various Alfa donors. I know a big roadblock on some these ideas is dealing with the safety glass windshield question.

    Absolutely. Using off the shelf glass was a common approach with a lot of kit cars in the past, usually with poor results. I think the Fiberfab Jamaican was one of the few original designs that pulled it off. With your sense for the aesthetic and metal shaping skills I think if anyone can make it all work it'll be you.     @@mikeblommel9091 The most common reason is that these kit cars usually went with the least expensive windshield... therefore the kit car never really looked as good as it could have. I don't think that Wray will cheap out on a lower priced windshield and build the car around that. I don't think that the cost of buying the exact existing windshield or having one specially made would a factor after investing so much time and effort to get it to look right. Just my thoughts.

    @andrekocsis2215 I agree completely. I doubt Wray will go down that path either, but if an off the shelf windshield can be found that harmonizes with the design then that certainly makes life easier. I think it's a big stumbling block for many original designs.

    @@mikeblommel9091 I worked with automotive glass for more than 20 years and it's not that difficult to cut glass, even curved laminated glass, for someone who knows what he's doing. But of course the easiest way is to find one that fits your needs.

    As far as where to get the rear design elements, I'd like to nominate the 1947 Cisitalia 202 SC or the GT. I may have the optimum year wrong but they were made from 1946 to at least 1951, so maybe they became more refined in later versions. Probably there is an Alfa that is similar but I couldn't find it. It's a shame but we do still have to provide for the license plate and associated lights.

    That lopped off vertical rear feels wrong, to me anyway. I much prefer the MGA or '59 Healey 3000 slope. But to each their own.

    Not sure where you got that "message" from. This video is all about putting in the initial wires, however at the same time (not on video) we are also working on the engine with whatever limited spare time we may have. Rest assured, this is all about making a wire form.
