This guy is a perfectly fine and passionate reviewer of cars. He's good at what he does. What made this series unique, however, was the owner profiles and backgrounds with as much quirk as their rides. It's about the cars, yes, but it's the stories of the people behind them that made viewers care. This is being lost with this new format and at this point it's just become another car lecturing channel without the human interest story component.

Petrolicious has a new owner, so until he starts to produce new videos, he is showing the old homologation special videos, which I think was for paying members only previously.

Yes, this was for members and was released in March, the last new content to come out of petrolicious was start of May, assuming that was stuff left over from the original owner, they will run out of old member content soon! Paying members are not happy either.

Agreed, on both counts. This style and this presenter are more than fine enough to keep me watching. Plus he has bona fide credentials, which helps. I would prefer a mix of this style and owner-story style going forward frankly. I suspect Sam here has access to a lot of special cars. Now that we're learning this was actually premium content released as a stop gap, we should probably enjoy these while we can.

This only happens sometimes when an owner does not want to be on camera. I would never want to be filmed as I am very happy being anonymous. I have allowed some of my cars to be filmed, on occasion, as long as I am not seen. Privacy is important to me.. Format change is most likely due to Covid.

Agreed, there are hundreds of channels that do the reviews. The guy is good but it's nothing special. Petrolicious stood out because of it's cinematography and the owners' stories. As long as this is just temporary due to corona it's all good.

This isn’t a shift or even new content. Since the original owner left (was forced to leave) and new owners have come along, we have had no new content, this and all the videos since around May have been what was member only content, they made three member only series over about 2 years; homolgation specials, soul made (people who make things like bespoke luggage, racing shoes, helmets etc) and master mechanics, they are almost out of homologation videos! Oh, and paid up members haven’t had any new content or even contact, not happy!

I’ll never complain about a video of an Alfa Romeo

We don't want another car review channel, there are loads of them, we want petrolicious.

Im an owner of an alfa romeo, it was a dream for me. To have an alfa. I have a normal model, a 159, but in my mind is like having the purest history of italian vehicles in my hands. Greetings from spain!! I love italian cars, are the best!!

It's the same proclamation that I made when I was a kid and the transaxles took the place of 105 series! ..After a few years I bought a 75 1.8, then a 2.0 TS, then a 3.0 QV, then an SZ, discovering these series as fantastic, unique, too. So, the 159 was a beautiful car, with the most rigid chassis of the world production, very safe and with excellent road holding; well, it was a bit heavy, the diesel engines were excellent and durable while the petrol engines were not up to par, but even with some flaws it remains a great and sexy car.

'One of' the most beautiful ... Giugiaro designed many more beauties as did some of his mates down at the pub, Pininfarina, Zagato, and Gandini. But yes, at 17!

Been a dream car of mine for many years now. Have a beautiful little metal model on my shelf near my desk, one day I'll have the real thing I hope

I have always loved antique european cars. The sound, smell, simplicity and the interios are delightfull

I am fortunate to have had a 67 GT for 30 years, about to drop the suspension for a refresh. Thought about selling it many time, and yeah as you say they are crazy money now

It’s always been my no.1 dream, it has everything you would ever need in a car: 4 cylinders under 2 liter, 5 speeds and lightness. Simply and essentially just a car, yet nothing short of a masterpiece!

Heaven = Giulia GTA + Lancia Fulvia (in my garage)

In case anyone here preferred the old style of videos - this format used to be for paying members only. As far as I can work out they’ve been releasing it temporarily while everything settles down because of Covid, until they start making videos again. So they haven’t abandoned that old style yet - enjoy this content while you can!

Each week I’m seeing people lamenting the “old” style of owners’ story videos. These videos with Sam Hancock were for subscribers only last year - I haven’t seen any new content from the new owners of Petrolicious yet.

Alfa was the sponsor at the Heacock Classic Gold Cup a couple years ago at Vir. There were many of these racing that day. A treat seeing so many on track.

I remember an old friend's dad had a 1750 GTV and it still remains one of the coolest cars I've ever seen in the flesh. despite it being covered in an inch of dust and the engine sitting next to it on a stand the whole time I knew it I could tell it was a magical experience to drive it

Back in around 1967 there was one at International Motors in Falls Church, Virginia. I was 21 at the time, just starting out in my career and making $4,000/year. The GTA cost $4,000, I so lusted after it! The skin was so delicate we were warned against touching it, it would dimple. I settled for a 101 Series Alfa Sprint, at $1,500 more in my price range. I learned a lot about rust repairs with that car, Italian steel was notorious for corrosion.

I actually prefer this format to the old way, it's easier to understand and usually has better information. Perhaps bring back the owner led reviews in like once a month videos or something like that to appease all the people complaining. Prior to the change I had only watch the owner stories very occasionally for the past year or two, now I watch every video! I've been a fan of Petrolicious for about 4 years now.

Exactly, why is he jerking at the wheel? 🙄 We owned an older Alfa with stock suspension & the steering was an absolute joy. Sure, there was body roll, but you just pointed it where you wanted to go & it effortlessly took the corner with grace & composure.

@@kraziel Then go and drive an Alfa and you will know what a real Alfa is. Nowdays just a handful of car models are made to be driven, to build a connection beetween man and machine and Alfa is one of those few.

It sure looks like it would benefit greatly from a fresh suspension. ..but: What a scoop. These cars must be SO rare. Lovely seeing one on the road, even if it does look somewhat wobbly. Notes on the sound editing: To me it was on point when you were in the car, but still off in the intro. Music was too loud compared to your voice, imho. Doing much better overall than in the beginning :)

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of these cars years ago and for only $2.00 😮 Just have to find the right Hot Wheels case now. 👍🏻

Basically my favorite Alfa ever.... but then... I see another gorgeous, sexy model.

Alfa is a great car for enthusiasts with good mechanical repair skills and have both time and money to blow on their car hobby. Or just plenty of money if you just outsource repairs and maintenance administration.

That's a vulgate. Alfa is Alfa and its maintenance does not cost more than another brand but it is an Alfa, at least by a good mechanic here in Italy ...

You mentioned the car still has it's original suspension parts. It sure looks like they need an upgrade to make this car safe to drive. The wandering and wallowing of the front of the car looks to be extremely dangerous. It is still one of my favorite cars ever produced.

For sure back then safety standards weren't on top of the list for manufacturers like Alfa Romeo. This is a classic car, it's 50 years old. You drive it as it is, like it or not. It's made to feel the road and the emotions a sporty driving can give. And if you've never driven a car from that era, well you don't know what real driving means.

@@GiampietroDiSanto Sorry but I have driven since I was 13 years old and am now 69 years old and apparently will not accept worn out parts. Worn parts can be replaced without hurting the car. A 65 Cadillac wallows naturally and this car does not. Sloppy suspension has never been a characteristic of Alfa's. I have driven them before.

@@tracerloenan8020 From the outside it seems more dangerous than it actually is. Plus consider that in some scenes (for artistic and filmmaking purposes I guess) the guy swerves dramatically and counter-steers when it's pretty clear that it was unnecessary (in some corners the speed was very low and no car would wallow, not even a van, let alone this one. He really didn't go nowhere close to the car's limits where it would start losing grip and/or wallow. That's just drama.

Don’t forget....you may criticise....but even Carol Shelby had trouble selling his Cobras....one Cobra virtually went to all the Ford dealerships in the US before it was sold “new” and took well over a year to sell....Alfa GTA’s WERE exotic cars..even in Europe..please don’t quote me but a GTA Alfa was half as much AGAIN than an EType then in the 60’s and my parents paid £2000 for their FIRST house in 1968

I just wish their present reflected their past. It's a tough ask to cough up what they're asking for a Giulia when I know how much my 159 has cost me in parts and labour.

The drivers with passion mattered too, granted the car was no slouch, Alfa has pretty much maintained a great handling ballance with power to match. Not the smoothest drive I've seen this guy do though, especially for a car I know is pretty much balanced, if that is a twin plug head it might go a ways to explaining that, they could be a little peaky.

I like that Petrolicious has both this reviewer and their normal enthusiast owner episodes as well.

This is NOT new content, or a new format. Since the original owner Afshin left (was forced to quit after a silly BLM comment) we have had no new content, nothing since about May, these “new” videos are actually from an old member only series, homologation specials, which started about 2 years ago, this Alfa film was from around March and they don’t have many more left to share. They might start sharing the other member only films (edit: I see they already have) one a series on master mechanics, the other called soul made (artisans in the automotive world) - if you don’t like the homologation format, I’m sure the others will go down a treat 😂 The bad thing, members have not heard a word from the new owners, and have had no new content either, no news on the members magazine, no answer to emails. I hope it’s not so, but as a member (but never again) it feels like petrolicious is finished.

Like most videos now days like this, the back ground music becomes annoyingly louder than the person talking, please turn the fluffy music back a couple of notches so we hear the engine sound.

i can live with the host if you've made a series of videos already. i can't focus on what he's saying with the music being the same volume as his voice and not suited to the car during the first half of the video. if you must play music keep it softer and match it to the italien race car you're presenting as a suggestion. sounds like a Yann Tiersen movie soundtrack for a french film.

I truly love it, but i think that it should have IRS.
