Alfa Romeo 4C: 5 Things We Love

We got to drive the Alfa Romeo 4C for a couple of days and in this video we listed the 5 things we absolutely LOVE about the two seater, mid-engined sports car. Actually, correction, SUPERCAR.
The Italian built, carbon-fiber monocoque, four cylinder turbo in the middle, Alfa Romeo is the cheapest supercar you can get today. Starting at around $55,000 (our model clocking in at a much more expensive $78,000) is a pure performance machine that is utterly raw and ridiculously gorgeous to look at.
Here are the five things we love about it:
1. Power. At 237 horsepower the 4C won't win many battles in a brochure fight. However, when you realize that it only has to carry a weight of about 2,465 pounds, you'll quickly find that the power to weight ratio is immense, and is plenty enough to give you a thrill in the straights and especially in the corners.
2. The Handling. Being a low slung sports car (supercar!) with the engine in the middle, double wishbone suspension, and an ultra lightweight construction, the handling of the 4C is unlike any other. The lack of power steering also helps you communicate with the road, as every bump, and surface imperfection is delivered to your hands so you can truly feel the road.
3. The interior ergonomics. When you're driving a dedicated track car, you need to be able to focus on the important things. When it comes to interior design, the 4C concentrated on the necessities and made those items exceptional. The steering wheel felt great to the touch, while the thin seats are supportive and communicative.
4. The looks. It's hard to find anyone who doesn't love the look of the Alfa Romeo 4C. We can go on forever about the styling of the 4C, but we'll leave it at... JUST LOOK AT IT!!!!
5. The everything else. The best part of the 4C is the experience. That is something that no brochure or money will explain, the 4C is something you need to experience. Once you've felt the raw driving experience of the 4C, you'll understand why it's the most important thing we love about it. If you get the opportunity to try it out, take a deep breath, and try to remember every millisecond you're in it. You're in for a trip.

Can’t believe i just now found this video (Feb 2024). I thought I have seen all the 4C videos out there. I have a 2015 spyder in Giallo Corsa, took it on track and drove it around town. You guys are spot on, whenever and wherever I am driving it, it put a smile on my face!!

It's an amazing car. I bought one about 2 months ago, love it. I am 6' and 200+ lbs. It's a bit of tight fit, but once in it's fine. Of course getting out is like getting birthed, but it's all part of the experience. This car is definitely the best looking car you can buy for less than $200k. The power is stunning, I came from a Porsche Cayman to this. Night and day, so much faster, quicker response. Negatives- turn radius is awful (but you only notice that in rare parking events), no back up camera available (that would have been nice), relatively small interior despite the width of the car, maybe could have been better. All in all, a great car. My daily driver.

I was at Wendy's the other day. I was looking out the window watching people react to the car. One guy was staring at the car for so long he almost drove into the car in front of him. Lol, one more hazard of driving the 4C.

I have a 2015 4C LE version. I put in my own backup camera....it pairs with a Garmin GPS unit and is wireless. It connects o the rear backup light. No wires need to be run through the engine compartment. The camera is the Garmin BC-30. I mounted the camera on the black screen right below the license plate. The transmitter is tiny and it and wire can be hidden on shelf on the interior of the bumper. Have had camera for 1 1/2 years and it is trouble free and gives good image. The stock 4C backup lights provide plenty of light to illuminate the rear of the car when backing at night also.

@@MrRandalrhodes This is a year later and idk if you will reply, but what was it like daily driving it for the past year or so? Were there expensive repairs or maintenance? Did you have any issues with it at all?

@@RobertKarlBerta I would also like to hear what you have to say about your ownership as well. In the near future I may be getting one, and I want to know if it is something that I could keep or if it is not very good as a daily, assuming I have only one passenger and little luggage.

Have a 2015 Launch Edition coupe . Fantastic car.....if you have one join the ALFA 4C Forum to converse with a lot of 4C owners from all over the world. Have proven to be pretty much bullet proof whether on street or with LOTS of track driving. With just a few minor mods and better tires this becomes a real track day monster. As far as reliabiility.....a big owners survey just came out of all makes of cars and 140,000 surveys. The survey covered all areas mechanical,, electronics, etc for 1-3 years of ownership. As usual Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, Suburu were the top 4, but ALFA was #5 and beat out #6 Honda.....BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Jag, were way down the list. Used to be ALFAs had a reputation in the 80s of less than stellar reliability....not anymore. Any cons....yeah.....minimal storage space, noisier due to ultra light design and lack of insulation.....but the sound is amazing. As I tell people....it is impractical for anything except putting a huge smile on your face.

The rear is an advance/complex MacPherson strut, not the same found on regular cars, and the front is double wishbone. I love it to death. Driving it on narrow canyons generates sounds like group B rally cars. A lot of industrial sound effects. Definitely a cure for depression.

You forgot to mention the sound! One the best -- if not THE best sounding modern 4-cylinder engines. I'm 5'7" and I fit great in this wonderful masterpiece. Drove a Launch Edition last year and had been a fan before that experience. They say never meet your heroes or you'll be disappointed but the exhilaration behind the wheel just fueled my fire more. The turn signal click in the video really brought me back to that day. It's definitely a bucket-list car!

Great little review and straight to the point. This is the last year for the 4C - I've had a '15 Spider for 3 years and am still as much in love with it now as it was then. Had a Lotus Elise before it, but the 4C evokes more emotions despite the Elise being a bit better of a Driver's car. Thanks for doing the right kind of review on this Alfa!

In the last few years, I've been fortunate to have driven some VERY capable machinery. Vipers, Corvette's, Cadillac V's, Maserati's, Hellcats, etc. Nothing has moved me like the 4C. It's at the very top of my wish list.

I got me a red 4c spider and ordered a carbon fiber top for a maker in Germany. I love the car. I normally prefer motorcycles because of the experience. This is one of the only cars to give a similar experience.

If you wanna know what kind of society we live in as far as fun level. Look at the 4c or similar cars monthly or yearly sales numbers. Then compare it to any boring appliance car. Most people make sure to make driving a boring activity.

Great review boys - I'm a racer, normally cars are 'tools' - but I made an exception for the 4C - loved it since I first saw it at launch. Had a few high-mileage 911, several MX5 - all great sports cars, but the 4C takes me back to when I was eighteen and I managed to finance a Lotus Europa Twin Cam. Very similar in one way: the way the car makes you 'feel'. The 911 and Mazda were excellent, pedigree 'sports cars' - but the 4C is a racer - and brutal with it in so many ways. My other 'work' vehicle is a Ducati Diavel 1260 S, and the 4C has a similar character: A bit bonkers. But VERY pretty. When I test drove it first, it did something strange to me - it made me laugh out loud. Road cars don't normally have that effect - but this one did. Not for everyone. Good :-)

Here in the US other companies also provide simple ECU upgrades that boost power also. 300-32O hp is possible with nothing else other than a better air filter element. On the 4C it is a matter of unbolting 4 screws, unplugging and swapping out the stock ECU to the reflashed one. Takes about 5 minutes and you can do it in your dress clothes. Stock has plenty of power but an upgrade provides significant power increase and actually is more tractable than stock. May not sound like a lot of HP but the car is light and that means VERY fast. due to the power to weight ratio. Torque is spread over a very wide rpm range and starts very low so acceleration is fierce....great for pulling out of corners on track or autocross.
