You recorded this nine years ago. Where have I been! You are so talented. I can only imagine the time you have spent practising. My dad ran an accordion school after entertaining in the 2nd World War. But I have never seen an accordion like yours, even amongst the hundreds my dad had in his studio. What is it called? It’s very tight, no air leakage, so it’s of very high quality. And the tone is beautiful. Great volume without a pickup.

Hello Mr Scinocca! First of all, thank you very much!! This instrument was built by Excelsior in New York around 1947. It is a "Frosini Exclusive Model" with very responsive/"sensitive" reeds. The proportions, properties and shapes of the "case" in a way makes it feel like an extension of your own body, as it were :-) Kind regards from Sweden /Alf

Hi Alfi, What's that 3-row Kbd you got there in front of that zebra piano Kbd? Is it a Janko layout...? Am I right or wrong? Please put me right. Thx

The white piano keys do function as a fourth row, but I never use them. The three rows of buttons are arranged in exactly the same manner as on a standard C-system button accordion (i.e. the only thing I need). Best regards / Alfie

Thx for the Info. Hasn't the normal C-system 5 rows? So, you reckon 3-rows are sufficient? Interesting, because I used to play the irregular zebra, piano Kbd. and then got sick of its irregularity. Now (in old age) I try to rejuvenate my musical joys, by building a 4-row Janko Kbd. on top of my Yamaha Tyros3 and already turned a 120-button accordion bass section into MIDI. I also invented a WYSIWYG type Janko notation. Details, here: electro-music.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=400476#400476

Hello again! :-) Yes, the normal C-griff (and B-griff for that matter) nowadays typically have a total of 5 rows. (In some of the Balkan countrys even as many as 6 rows are quite common.) The only rows needed are, nevertheless, the three outmost ones. Sure, I have met a handful of players over the years (among which some have been my students) who actually have been, more or less, physically incapable of stretching/reaching/move their fingers in certain ways - ways that are ultimately required for those who wishes to stick exclusively to 3 rows. Much can of course be achieved through careful, aware and diligent practice though. But the player who eagerly rushes to the inner rows (4th, 5th) as soon as the slightest technical difficulty arise, will ultimately "develop" a rather poor technique, due to laziness as it were. This is my absolute conviction, based on thirty years of observation and study. Your inventive achievements have for sure resulted in yet another interesting "hybrid" instrument. It is kind of funny that the accordion (including it's siblings, cousins and twentysecond cousins), somehow have turned out to become an instrument with almost as many systems/configurations as there are accordionists in the world :-) Best greetings from Sweden /Alf PS. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but aren't "Janko system" the same as the Reuter system..? (Named after it's inventor John Reuter - who most probably got the idea from his teacher Pietro Frosini's left-hand free-bass button layout - which in turn emanated from Frosini's hometown Catania on Sicily...). If so, I would probably be content with a TWO-row layout, if I ever were to convert to Reuter/Janko system ;-)
