As the story goes, Pietro Deiro on a trip by boat to Trieste, Italy wrote his Trieste Overture, and on the return trip to the States, wrote Il Ritorno ( Pietro's Return ).

I recall to have heard or read something like that before. It's a very likely story I should say. B.t.w. the Trieste Overture is on my repertoire as well, and have been so since my adolescence :-)

Thanks Mr. Coale! Well, the configuration of buttons is "as usual", for a 3-row C-griff system that is. The white piano keys do actually function as a fourth (button)row doubling the first row. But since I have never ever needed more than three rows I don't use those piano keys at all :-) The C-griff-configuration is as follows: 1st row: C, Eb, F#, A, C etc. 2nd row: C#, E, G, Bb, C# etc. 3rd row: D, F, Ab, B, D etc. Regards from Sweden /Alf

Hello RDLX. The configuration of the buttons reflects a regular 3-row C-griff system. The white piano keys do function as a fourth row [of buttons] doubling the first row, but I never use them. Wow! Is it the same 41 keys by 3 or 4 reed sets, or each extra line of piano keys has extra reed sets? If so, how much does it weigh? And of course, great performance! Thank you!

It's a New York-built Excelsior from the mid 40's. As Mr Korneliussen writes it is called Finto - or in this case actually Finto Chromo since the white piano keys do function as a fourth row (which I however do not use). Configuration of the rows are as follows: 1st row: C, Eb, F#, A, C etc. 2nd row: C#, E, G, Bb, C# etc. 3rd row: D, F, Ab, B, D etc. [4th row: C, Eb, F#, A, C etc.]

You make a lot of bellow changes, but they are all clean. Not one change was made in the middle of a note.

That is the sign of a real professional. It also helps that the accordion probably has terrific reeds as well. And of course, practice will also help.

@Anthony Scinocca Thanks! Yes, my method are to treat the bellows as a string player treats his/her bow. In some genres I use more of right-hand-wrist-phrasing instead, but the bellows awareness are most important anyway :-)

@@AlfHagedal This march and the Sharpshooters March were the first two pieces I worked on when I bought an accordion back in 1956, when I still lived in England. Spent two Years in Germany with the RAF 1956-59 and so enjoyed the many musical events I went to in various European countries adjacent to Germany. Wonderful days for a young man. I still have a nice Hohner 120 Bass with many presets and the same two music scores from all those years ago. You play this at a nice tempo, many play it too quickly I think. @@AlfHagedal I first heard a 13 year old playing this very well indeed when as a youngster I did a paper round after school, and their house was one I delivered to. They invited me in and so formed a musical friendship and a contact with an accordion repair man who sold me a lovely accordion with a curved keyboard that had belonged to a stage artist. Had that for over 60 years till damaged in a fire-replaced it with the current 120 base Horner with many couplers on base and treble. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my comments.
