Alexandra Introducing Herself - Russian Lessons

A great way to practice your Russian language comprehension. Subtitled in both English and Russian. Listen to Alexandra introduce herself in Russian. The first time you watch this video read the English text. Read the Russian text the second time. Then see if you can understand without reading along. I'm sure some of the Russian words or grammar will be new, but it is good to learn in context.

She does a pretty good job with her clear and precise pronunciations. I am almost 2 months into my Russian lessons and I try watching Russian films to acclimate myself to the flow of the language as it is spoken in a social setting. Unfortunately the Russian actors are not acting to teach a language so it can be really difficult to follow what is going on . Even the phrases I recognize are hard to understand in the way they are pronounced. Definitely going to take some time.

Идея хорошая, но исправьте ошибки в русских субтитрах. Это же обучающее видео, как заявлено.

It would be helpful if the Russian phrases are also transliterated with Latin characters to help with pronunciation, because not every Russian learner can read Cyrillic alphabet. Spasibo! :)

Hi, thanks for your feedback. The subtitle and translation work is already a big job, so to be honest we won't have time to do transliterations. For anyone who doesn't know the Russian alphabet, we would encourage you to learn it, it is one of the easier components of Russian to learn. In fact, we have just started working with Alexandra to prepare some beginner lessons about the Russian alphabet, so stay tuned!

My friend...Learn it NOW. Not tomorrow..NOW NOW NOW! The alphabet is very important and it is not too hard to learn. When? NOW NOW NOW By the way, as a native English/greenlandic speaker (both latin alphabets) I love the cyrillic alphabet. It makes much more sense. anyways, good luck !

Why would you not learn the Cyrillic alphabet?

Transliterations would be bad, because they would give people reason to not learn the Cyrillic alphabet. A Russian learner that can't read Cyrillic should be learning to read Cyrillic. Yes, it may be harder to understand the video without transliterations, but that will make you learn much faster in the long run.
