Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

London-born fashion designer Lee Alexander McQueen (1969 - 2010) was renowned for his conceptually daring and beautifully crafted ensembles. His theatrical catwalk shows are now the stuff of fashion legend, and his work remains hugely influential. In this film, McQueen’s friends, family and contemporaries reflect on the life and extraordinary career of fashion’s ultimate ‘enfant terrible’.

I first fell in love with Alexander McQueen as a kid browsing through fashion magazines and seeing his ethereal works on those beautful models posing at the edge of the runway for a photo. It inspired me to pursue art. That was about 15 years ago. Now I still am pursuing it. I have to say, I've never ever experienced anything like Alexander McQueen.

I'm no designer... but I have loved fashion all my life. When I read the comments below, I'm forced to sit back and think a moment. About my love, about expression, about the fashion "show" in general. I'm an author, so please keep in mind that my daily fashion choices are all about function. But isn't that life, in general? Isn't life so boring that when we crave something different and new, we turn to entertainment - and flat-out expect that it will be bigger, better, more interesting, and frankly (usually) impossible in real life? We watch movies about treasure hunters, star fighters, time travelers. We read books about missions impossible, magic, and miracles. And then we return to our lives a little less bored, a little more capable of facing the next day. The fashion show is no different. It is not a fashion "shopping mart." It is a show. As in show business. Bigger, better, more extravagant - entertaining. Its purpose is to thrill, excite, inspire. And then from these inspiring visions come the wearable fashions that find their ways into the stores next season. These are the toned-down models, the wearable versions of the works of art that graced the catwalk in all of their unwearable glory. The fashion show is a designer's soul, filled with pain and anxiety, depression and nightmares, regrets and loss - and vision and hope. No one who loves fashion will ever forget, for instance, Kate Moss's hologram slowly spinning to Schindler's List because Lee Alexander McQueen wanted to give her a chance and support her. Because that was the kindness of his soul, and she helped him reveal it.

I never thought I could come to appreciate fashion as an art form until I saw a photo exhibit of some of Alexander McQueen's pieces from his Savage Beauty collection at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. I was smitten so much that I HAD to buy the photo book of the complete collection at the museum gift shop that very same day.

I remember once, while accepting an award, McQueen said "tell Marilyn Manson to get off my tit." I think he may have overestimated Marilyn Manson because at that time, the brilliant Floria Sigismondi was in charge of creating his aesthetic. This was around the time of Antichrist Superstar, before that awful attempt at glam or whatever. Anyway, if you watch the video for Tourniquet, that's Floria's work and I can tell she is very inspired by McQueen. I've heard her refered to as the female Tim Burton, but I don't think so. Her shit is just dark with no comedic edge. I love her stuff.

Comics superheroes have always the same mission, fans, fighting back evil and evil never sleeps, never give up to evolve and become vicious, never dare to convert its evil nature. Some people feels like worthless if not hurting or damaging the others to restrain fantasy and stop human evolution, having this kind of obsession of posession, treating us as hostages to be locked in zoo cages and decide for us how to live, they just can not release their minds and do things on their own, think about it fans, why is it so important to keep alive this passion for dreaming forward, we try to release people, mostly those who have the obsession for posession

Not really a fan of McQueen. Some of his clothing lines included absolutely absurd designs that one really couldn't wear to an event & not be stared at as coming across as (what the hell is that? ) The shoes on those mannequins are horrific. They resemble a cows feet and they are totally unwalkable to wear. Not a fan.

Unwearable fashion that looks better on a lifeless mannequin than on a real woman. Professional models had to be taped and wrapped into the clothes (aka torture devices) just to stagger down the runway. Fashion died in the 20th century. Designers now make absurd works of abstract art which can not be worn without duct tape and cellophane.

Fashion design is about art. Especially this kind of fashion design. It's not meant to be worn, it's meant to be art. And this art, is moving on a person meant to be showcased as such. Figure fashion art like this as a kinetic sculpture and stop getting your head stuck in the past like an ostrich in the sand.
