Happy 21st birthday, Alexander! Your birth began the eventual enrichment of my appreciation of music, especially Russian music which I did not know very well.. Since I first found your videos I have been in awe. I wish you a long life making the world a better place for everyone by the magic of your art.
This whole recital is like a flame. Alexander comes into his full self: passionate, self possessed and at the same time completely abandoned to the music. He has thrown off the fetters of the past. I see him here as completely disarming with a bit of humor thrown in as if to tease us and I can't stop listening.

Alexander wat een groots speler ,in een woord fantastisch ja fenomenaal ik zag hem van kind tot die grote persoonlijkheid groeien wat kan ik genieten van dit grootse spel van hem👍👍👍bravo
Malofeev the new genius, already new he was gonna be the future of piano when I heard him play rach 3 at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, BRAVO Alexander ‼️ I only wish you the best 👏👏.
Thank you so much for such a sublime live streaming!! How we long for it!!! Alexander finally backed to his beloved stage! He talked with his piano with such delicate & glowing emotions. I saw the audiences said they held their breath, not dare to move or even blink, just not to miss a single moment of the pianist’s virtuosity. They sat like bewitched. It’s an unforgettable recital for a lifetime!

@@emilyhutjes Hello Ms.Hutjes, I think you’re saying the open rehearsal? I saw that one, too. Alexander played Rach 3 yesterday on Tanglewood festival with MTT. The concert would be on streaming during Sep 8 to 30 on BSO website. Don’t miss it. ))
So glad to see you back on stage!
He has a very clear idea and deep understanding of this piece for such a young age. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Just to add... He has the same deep understanding for every single piece he decides to perform/study.... and his current age isn't "young" anymore, given the fact that he gave us brilliantly and professionally performed high tier piano concertos at age 15 and under. If there was a god of brilliance, elegance and humility, well, Malofeev is his incarnation.

Alessandro è se stesso, non recita, non cerca di ingraziarsi il pubblico. Lui, il pianoforte, la musica e nient'altro. Chi ama la musica lo sa e lo ammira per questo.
Alexanders Rachmaninoff is quite marvelous.
I'm sorry but it is rude to use Rachmaninoff played so well like that as click bait. I would have gone to the website anyhow to listen to the rest of the recital because Alexander is so amazing, NOT because I needed to know what happened at the end of the etude-tableaux. Classical music doesn't work like that.
Квинтэссенция красоты!
You are beautiful. I listen to your music but I look at you.

Hi! You can watch the full recital at cutt.ly/5L0QTPO Enjoy!
Malofeev's a real performer. He tries to make an impression visually as well as aurally. His command of the idiom is outstanding. One criticism. Turning your face to the audience and holding it there for 10 seconds, (eyes closed or not) is a bit over the top. It's like an actor breaking the fourth wall. The audience should not be part of it. The artist should go about his business. That's what Rachmaninoff did.

Nonsense. I love Sasha, but It’s an affectation that I hope he won’t in incorporate into his recital repertoire. Like the rock-star haircut. Oh, well. He’s all grown up now; he’s his own man and artist.

Oh come on, he can express himself whichever way he likes. I won't say that doing more with body language than what music demands is the appropriate rule, its not pop dance music but neither the "play still, like a robot, without even moving , just let the music speak" thing is the ok way.

I loved it when he turned his head. It is real drama and wonderful to listen to and watch him. He often conducts with his left hand when it's not doing the playing. He is very involved and he has great character. I also have no doubt that the actions of his country are weighing heavily on him, as they are on me.
Ugh don't cut off the last 10%! Just don't post or keep it at first 10%
He is the hope of Russian piano playing in the future.
He reminds me Boris Johnson

@Faraday Boris Johnson?! Alexander Malofeev is a young man now of almost 21 and yes young men choose their own hairdo in 2022 AD- and so do our two boys of 18 and 21.
Unfortunately the mannerisms are getting out of hand. The Boris Johnson hairstyle and earring can be excused as a young man's wish to assert his identity but the extravagant hand gestures and eccentric head movements are a bit over the top. They distract from the music. They are also detached Fromm the music in my opinion not a genuine expression of feeling. Nevertheless , as always I really enjoyed his performance as did the audience. I may be alone in requesting a little restraint in the acting department. A little less Prokofiev might help together with more Bach.

What earring? I don't see one. -Haven't heard him play in a while, and always humbled by the poetry and pureness of his playing. What a blessing. Seems to me all his movements, exlressions etc are organic to the execution and conception of the music itself. Beautiful. - anyway, I know this is silly, bu just curious, where do u see an earring?

What caught me was greater expressiveness in Alexander's music. He pushed the envelope with this recital. I was very excited, indeed, with his level of musicianship. (btw, he's had a lot of the expressions you refer to for years now) He was more passionate, less restrained, taking greater risks. At first, I was caught off by the new, more 'plentiful' hair, but it likely goes with living in the west, where attitudes are more relaxed. For this more relaxed aire, I am happy for this sublime pianist. Carry on, Sasha!
