I find Shelley Duvall's performance a convincing portrayal of someone unraveling under the pressure of being literally trapped in a toxic relationship. I enjoy Jack Nicholson's performance but it's a bit of Jack hamming it up as Jack.

Alexa is awesome. They way she talks about the subtle character moments in The Shining also translates to her work in WWE. She gets character moments and that shows in her performance in WWE. She would make a great actress in movies.

I would love to see Alexa bliss star in a horror movie and play the final girl. Would be cool as hell!

My issue with Samara was them showing her face... I think it was scarier with her hair covering the face. I also agree on the wrestling crossover, you have to suspend belief and get your heart rate up for both horror and professional wrestling

The Shining is one of the best. I know Stephen King hated this adaption, and went on to make a different movie that was more faithful to the book. But honestly, what makes this movie so good is Jack Nicholson's performance. Without him, I don't think the movie would of become such a classic.

Kubrick had a secretary write the "all work and no play" manuscript for literally months. It also had to be written in several languages. Imagine writing the same sentence over and over, on hundreds of pages and then again in multiple languages.

Random fact, Ice Nine Kills did a song called Enjoy Your Slay, about The Shining, and it featured vocals from Sam Kubrick who is Stanley's grandson, who just happens to be in a Metalcore band.

The first movie my mom took me to was Freddy vs. Jason when I was 5 or 6 and I just crazy apperciate this channel. Has a special place in my heart. ❤ Keep up the great work James and Crew!

I don't follow wrestling so had never heard of her but I'm so glad you had her on because she's really great! edit.. almost at 4 million subs! that's so awesome and well-deserved!

Like James and Lexi, I was also one of those 'too young to watch this' type of kids. I remember seeing 'JAWS' for the first time, and I was legit afraid to take a bath out of fear of the shark coming up the drain. Ha, ha, ha. It's even funnier since I was used to watching the 'Nightmare on Elm St' and 'Friday the 13th' movies, yet 'JAWS' was the one that made me scared. Ha, ha. I think it was the fact I knew great white sharks were real, were as Freddy and Jason were not, and I grew up not too far away from where the movie was filmed. Ha, ha.

The thing about The Shining that goes unsaid is Shelley Duvall's face. She was an incredibly beautiful woman but throughout the movie the character gets worn down mentally and physically and Shelley has a beautifully unorthodox face that conveys the terror so perfectly. If you picture the famous bathroom scene where Jack is breaking in and that shot of Wendy screaming is a very powerful scene that I dont think could be conveyed by your run of the mill popular in the moment actress who is known for her looks, your Jen Anistons or someone of her calibre. I think nobody could replace Shelley in that scene and its unfortunate what has happened to her

OK, I first found your channel through your Kill Count videos. And just now, scrolling through my subscribe uploads, two things stood out to me on this video, The Shining, and Alexa Bliss. So, I was like Whaaaa? So had to click on it to see what Little Miss Bliss has to say about Shining. And then was surprised, because I didn't realize you had other series past the Kill Count series. Interesting.

The monster reveal stuff reminds me of the cream fight from Jojo's bizarre adventure part 3 where cream is terrifying and has the upper hand until his ability gets revealed and it eventually leads to his death

The first 3/4 of Doctor Sleep is amazing. Definitely has Haunting on Hill House vibes. The last 1/4 is okay but fails to satisfy. Still good. Would definitely recommend.

See I think I need to watch it again. I've watched it twice, once opening night in the theatre and once at home. I have the Director's Cut now which I'm excited to watch. I liked the ending, it's very different from the book, and normally that would bother me, however (spoilers ahead...) In the theatre when I realized that Flanagan was finally giving us the original Shining book ending on screen, I got pretty excited. And as it went on and it was more certain that that's what we were getting I got even more excited. It could be that though that those emotions won't hold up in another rewatch. So I will be interested to see.

Is it just me or was it clear from the beginning for anyone else that Doctor Sleep was a sequel to The Shining? By no means was the advertising as good as it could and should have been but I remember first seeing the trailer on TV one day and immediately being hype about it because I could tell it was revisiting The Overlook.

That intro is my favorite one on KZread. Its so well edited 😌

Something I personally love about The Shining is how, to me, it nails feeling like a little kid when you're trapped somewhere with a persistent feeling of dread. As someone who was a very nervous child growing up, the movie nails that constant pit in your stomach that comes from being small and not having any context for the world.
