Damn this guy has been plying at times very high level tennis since coming back to tour, making it deep in slams and masters, but not quite closing the deal and getting his hands on a trophy. This is huge, it is huge for his confidence knowing it’s been nearly two years since his last big trophy, and the fact this is coming just in time for Paris. If I were Alex, I’d have to say I’d put myself up there on the list for favorites to win the trophy in Paris.

If Sasha would have beaten Thiem in the US Open final, he would be a guaranteed HOFer. Unless he hits #1, don't think he gets in the HOF without getting a slam. His CV is better than Thiem's but Thiem will be in the HOF because of the US Open

Serverev already has a HOF worthy record. There are people in the HOF without a Slam who don't have his accomplishments. #2 in the world, Olympic gold medal in singles, Finals champion, 6 Masters, multiple Slam SFs. There's a lot more that they look at beyond Slams won & #1 ranking. Match wins against top players is one metric. Theme will get in on pity points b/c of the wrist injury, #3 ranking, & USO win, but his overall record isn't as strong as Sasha's.

First of all, it's a masters 1000, so it's the next best thing after a slam. Secondly, he didn't celebrate very exuberantly at all.. Can a person not be glad that they won?

Luck? As if! Jarry played amazingly the whole tournament. His QF match against Olive Oil was arguably the single best match of the whole event. FAA may have reached the Madrid final by luck, but the exact opposite was true for Zverev & Jarry.

He dserve !!! Sverev belong to a generation between Djokovic/Nadal and Alcaraz/Sinner. He got injured, and now is coming back !!

I e seen Djokovic go through a tournament without playing top players. It’s called being highly seeded. Thats the whole purpose, to get top players through to the final rounds. That’s how the tournaments make $.

He won every match convincingly, only losing a set against Tabilo, who was playing the best tennis of his life up until that point. Zverev was easily the best player of this tournament, only healthy Sinner and maybe Alcaraz could have stopped him.

@@moritzdust1459 Well said. People just can’t let go of Djokovic, etc. On any given day, Zverev can beat Sinner and Alcaraz. He can’t always beat them, but he can beat them.

Serverev can hold his own. He beat You-Know-Who in the Rome final in 2017 & in the SF match at the Tokyo Olympics. He beat Janhip in R4 of USO last year. He has a leading h2h against Carlitear.
