Bass should be at this volume in every metal song

disagree, some bands doesn't have an interesting bass to listen too, most of them only use bass to "fill something", not as a magic piece as they did here
@pempotfoy6206

It's not about the volume! It's about the equalization, the mix, the lines.For example, bass in iron maiden is way lower that in this cover, yet you can hear it better because of what I just said. Don't sound like a teenager saying it's a volume thing, cause it's not, all instruments are supposed to sound balanced.

Totally agree. Many times the great previous work of the Bass is not appreciated in the final result, and it deserves it, even for the weight and overall color of the song.

Agreed, As a bass player he's one of the greatest... can't think of any others off the top of my head that really compliments true metal like Webster does... it's just above and beyond fellow bassists in my opinion, As a guitarist I can tell you I'd take more pleasure in learning websters material than loomis on full shred mode, He's in my top 3 of all time, Things he does on 7 string people wish they could do on 6 strings.... His style/Sound/ and scale use is my heart and soul poured into his ability... I love hearing Dimebag Vai n all them shred but Loomis makes it sound like theres something coming out of the depths lol... only thing that can bring a smile to our face on a consistent basis...

al rod It is because so many bassists are the guys who play bass because there were two better guitarists in the band they were starting, and no bassist. Real bassists, like Alex Webster, Steve Harris, Cliff Burton, Getty Lee, and John Campbell really show how the instrument should be played. It shouldn't just be playing a simplified version of guitar. It should be the foundation, the bassis (pun intended) to the sound of the entire band.
@DeadmanBelial

Alex Wright it about being in the pocket man. I play bass and guitar and feel I am better on bass by far due to the fact I make it its own. I build on the fact that I am the tonal beef to differentiate the bass and drums to shine as they are and thats as the rhythm section. Too many bass players follow the guitars while a bassist follows the drums.

Alex is a MONSTER Bass player and composer, a lot of people even CC fan's themselves don't realize just how much of that CC music he writes and composes himself. Also the guy has no ego or attitude whatsoever he literally is the most approachable down to earth person in Metal, me and my wife have met him numerous times and every time he took the time to chat and sign everything we had.
Alex is a pretty underrated bassist. He can play some very complex basslines and makes it look easy.

Not everyone is Alex. A bunch of guys play what the rhythm guitar does. Makes it fatter, but Alex treats his bass as a percussion instrument. A bunch of people don’t treat it that way. Accenting rhythm is the way to go, but do something other than play exactly what they do. Alex is definitely a gem!

I used to say when I try to describe how much effort is involved in death metal that there is a band with name of Cannibal Corpse and they have so unique style of technical fast instruments play that it sounds like bass is leading and the bass player is main composer of band artwork. William Pryor are you saying no one is born talented? Natural born talent doesn't exist?
@williampryor9742
8 жыл бұрын
Jerald Hall I think that saying people are born talented puts down all the hard work that they put into their craft. Talent is knowledge build on years of practice, its muscle memory, its increased brain connectivity that comes with intense practice of playing an instrument. I think that personality has more to do with whether some one actually decides to put the time into learning. However, talent only comes from diligent work.
@jeraldhall1572
8 жыл бұрын
William Pryor it doesn't put down anything. That sounds like something said by someone who had to work very hard, much harder than most, to hone skills that came easy to someone else. That sounds bitter and disrespectful. Sorry, there are players who are born with good ears, good hand/eye coordination, a killer sense of rhythm and melody. They become better by cultivating that. Doesn't make them any better than those who don't have those things and have to work twice as hard to get it. Hard work period will get you where you choose to be. Having a natural knack for something, that natural talent-which does exist-just gets you there a little faster.
Every note has a meaning, nothing less, nothing more. Just precisely. Great work.
Definitely my favourite bassist and the inspiration to pick up bass. Thank you Mr. Webster!

any bass playthrough or cover video would be quite sad if the bass weren't at least a _little bit_ audible above the other instruments. in house, i run youtube through an old panasonic 5 disc changer with surround sound and a sweet little 8 inch sub, & i don't find the bass in the video overpowering. i think the main point of my original comment is that the tone & the nuance of the bass part can now be heard along with everything else, not just the frequency, although i've found over the years alot of metal album mixes to be bass deficient ( in an effort to keep guitar crunch & clarity, i imagine ).
I barely heard basS at CD. This is such a refreshment.
