Mr Salmond, I say this as a concerned Scot. Your performance was great as always. But your health is of a great concern to me, every single breath you take is with a deep grasp as if it your last and your face was sweaty and red, I'm afraid if you don't lose a lot of weight you won't be here in two years you just don't sound a well man and I'd hope your friends and family are telling you some home truths and that being your not in good shape.

Looking forward to 2026, Alba are bringing hope back to the Independence movement for the first time in a long time. Hard to see the SNP shifting approach, and therefore doesn't look to be any hope of them moving in the direction the Independence movement needs them to.

At the Gala Day today, we were commemorating the successful actions of some locals in 1337: "playing their part in the age long struggle for the freedom of their native land". Will we be remembered in 700 years time? I couldn't help but think 'tell me about it!' regarding the 'age long struggle' part. I commented to the woman next to me: "We haven't got there yet, but we're trying". To which she replied: "What can I say? I'm English!" And I replied: "That's all right - you'll get English Independence out of it!" Which is surely the attitude we need to have. Why would any self-respecting English person want England to NOT have Independence? And why would any English person feel (as possibly implied?) offended or threatened, by a country bordering on theirs being or becoming Independent? (If financial reasons, that points to a lack of necessary focus on their own economy. If Imperial reasons, that points to immaturity and a lack of self-reflection.) Not all actions are big dramas like Bannockburn. The struggle continues...

Independent of what exactly ? Westminster ? fair enough, but to gain such independence and then go cap in hand to the EU is no independence at all. Only Scotland could gain independence then give it away as quickly as possible. A vassal state of the corrupt EU ? no thanks.

Alex Salmond said when he was leader of the SNP don't split the independence vote as more Britnat Labour, Tory, Liberal MSPs and MPs may get elected. Now Alex Salmond wants to split the independence vote so that more Britnat Labour, Liberal and Tories get elected. Reform split the right-wing vote and many former Tory seats were lost to the Labour and Liberal parties . Alba has been attacking the SNP for the last few years. Alba has not benefited the only party to benefit has been the Britnat Labour party. Alba got 0.5 % of the vote in the 2024 general election and no Alba MPs were elected. Alba only got 0.7% in the 2022 Scottish local elections and no Alba councillors were elected. Alba got 1.7% of the vote in the 2021 Scottish parliament election and no Alba MSPs elected.

I was recently in Vancouver, the wealthiest city in Canada. Walk east beyond chinatown and you will see exactly why decriminalising drugs does not work. Hundreds of preople living on the streets and in doorways. Singapore had 19 drug deaths in 2022 according to the WHO. They have the same population as Scotland. I am not saying the death penalty is the answer but lets stop being soft on dealing and importing.

Realistically, what can any Party do about that personal issue? They could and should legalise certain drugs, thus eliminating the criminal aspects... and gathering tax. Drugs are not the issue in abuse, just as alcohol is not an issue for most. We have to treat those suffering all forms of addiction, not merely abandon them... it is a mental condition which leads to addiction and abuse. The most a Party can do is to allocate money for the support of individuals via the NHS. Drug abuse is a worldwide problem, not exclusive to Scotland. So we all have to act and uproot the cause... which is disillusionment and hopelessness. A society based on selfish needs, on money, is not the answer, merely adds to the problem.

Unfortunately Alex you had the best opportunity to deliver independence to the Scottish people and you didn’t. It’s human nature that you and the whole party became comfortable with your arses is Holyrood and for that matter Westminster. Fletcher of Saltoun observed that we are indeed ‘bought and sold for English gold’ I will vote for Alba and the SNP but only if you and your ilk do not take up your Westminster seats. Why send people down there to be ignored and out voted at every turn? It’s an affront to Democracy and you have been complicit in this illusion of representation your whole life… Only when party’s refuse to go and partake in that pantomime that is Westminster will they get my vote.. The global outcry will then force independence for Scotland can you imagine, no Unionist part could split or claim to represent Scotland… Don’t partake in the Pantomime….

Independence is the only way out for Scotland, the way out of all problems caused by lack of actual agency. Westminster simply plunders and exploits Scotland and our People. Westminster is for greed and selfishness, for climbing on the backs of others and taking what you can. That is the mentality of destruction, and as we can all see self destruction too. To live under the conditions of an arranged marriage is not to live, but to suffer needlessly. The whole so-called Union was immoral back then, and is so today.

Alec Salmond resigned for reasons which he felt were honourable at the time. He should not have done so. The mistake in the referendum was giving the vote to non-Scots. As a SCOTTISH constitutional issue only native born Scots should have had the vote. The majority of native-born Scots voted FOR independence but the unionists weaponised and actively threatened the migrants against us and they let us down in the end. They betrayed the country they had adopted. Sturgeon turned out to be a British state asset. A quisling. She damaged the independence movement hugely and should not be allowed to get away with what she has done to Scotland and the SNP. I hope she serves jail time - but she won’t as the British state protects its own. The only way forward now is the ALBA party and a hugely decentralised independence movement with maximum accountability for the leadership and the right if recall by the party membership against any representative who shows themselves to be dodgy or criminal. Had we had that then Sturgeon would have been stopped in her tracks. ‘Wings Over Scotland’ had her identified for what she was early on.

@@seastnanseastnan7765 A lot of nationalist garbage in here. If the majority of native Scots had voted for independence then there would be independence. The numbers of non Scots voting had zero bearing on the result. If you think Sturgeon is a British state asset you need to adjust your tinfoil hat. She is a horrible person, I mean really evil. She conspired to put Salmond in prison after all. But in all the years he knew her he didn't see that poisonous side of her. His judgement was terrible there, and his judgement that independence is good for Scotland is catastrophically wrong too.

The independence chasers have desperately tried via obsessional hate filled division to break it, and as a consequence have landed Scotland in the worst position it's been in during that time. During your time, there has never been an overall majority in Scotland for independence. NEVER. Which means for all your time in power, you've been operatind directly against the wishes of the Scottish people.
