Alex and Spencer are the shit! I just really love their styles

One thing I'd love to see with these sketchbook videos, is I'd like to hear the owner of the sketchbook talk a bit more. Mainly, because to us, almost every drawing looks great, but I'd like to hear the artist point out some they think are bad , or off. I know my sketchbook is full of bad art, but these videos are 99% praise, making it feel like everything in it ended up exactly how they wanted, which Idoubt is actually true. Just a thought. It's always interesting to see what someone will consider bad when it's their own art. It also helps people watching realize the artist isn't perfect, and that it's ok to dislike some of your own art.

Blah Blah I do, but I watch tons of other people too. Sycra actually critiqued one of my old shitty drawings in a video once. Was fun.

This is exactly how a sketchbook should look, completely filled, worn, colorful, a large variety of drawings, perfect. Keep it up dude, your sketches look awesome!

I love watching these videos. Alex's sketchbook looks so fun! When I look at my old sketchbooks they're just full of boring, rushed pencil figure and gesture studies and ugly, rushed random stuff. I really feel like starting another sketchbook this year and just have fun with it and take my time with each sketch and also try using some color! Drawing in a sketchbook should be fun after all not a chore...

Thus channel is great! Makes me super jealous that I didn't keep drawing seriously as a younger man. Inspirational stuff to say the least.

I wish I had a teacher like you. My teacher discourages me from drawing the things I like to draw just because she doesn't like them.

i love how in the beginnning, he wasnt smiling, but afterwords hes like, grinning while hes explaining his art.

I almost dont see the point in leaving this comment, but I miss this class. These kids were on another level, just all around. These videos right here is what inspired me to get going back when. I see lots of fanboying for spencer which is fine but not when it belittles active effort. Spencer was good, but he didnt make matt go "wow, it just doesnt stop!' The storyboarding is here is unreal. The spread at 13:18 will never not inspire me. This is energy you need as an artist. spencer has a more 'my pretty comission' air while alex gives that workhorse vibe.

whenever i get frustrated with a sketch or something i'm working on, i come and watch one of these sketchbook videos and it gives me some much needed motivation.

wow! that was the most inspiring thing i have watched in a long time the sketchbooks keep getting better and in no way would my drawings ever even come close to the amazing drawings that they produce. the videos keep getting longer but are defiantly worth watching :D can't wait till the next one! XD

This was super inspiring for me to get my sketchbook on! Cuz I'm applying for SVA this upcoming school year in animation!

every time i watch one of these videos i get sad about my sketch book, but that just makes me more determened to make my sketch book the best it can be all theses ketch books are brilliant and i really admire the students talents and style =]

Col-erase are made by Prismacolor, I personally adore them for underline work. They are usually used for light sketching because they smudge easily and are erasable c:

Alex and Spencer are both just amazing.. i REALLY dig some of alex's designs... they inspire me SO much.. gon buy the shit out of some col erase pencils tomorrow.. mine are out.. ima try and beast these 2 one day.. ive got a long way to go tho XD.. and damn, their education seems like the best.

what kind/brand of sketchbooks do your students use? Im looking for a sketchbook with lots of pages so I can really work a long time in just the one sketchbook but i don't want the pages to be too thin because i enjoy working with watercolour and dip pen with ink. im looking for something thats good value for money as well. i love moleskine sketchbooks but they are just so expensive!

good point, it states it's a undergraduate animation drawing class in the info, so maybe Manga/Anime is just the most popular style... His students are truely awesome artists i just wana see some of the less Manga/Anime styles!

I cannot speak from a professional standpoint, however the students seem to have a grasp on all of the basic skills needed for many things. They wouldn't be able to do the level of work that they do without these basic skills which I believe would be sufficient for many jobs. Again, I am just a student myself and cannot speak from a professional standpoint. Another thing to consider is their creativity, and as long as they have the ability to illustrate their creativity, I think they'll be fine.
