I don't know if Alex is using hybrid picking, or not, on There's a New Sheriff in Town. Whatever on Earth he's doing, the notes are raining down on top of my head, going through one ear and out the other; and the rest of the notes on that incredible tune are swirling around my head.

Some stuff you can do with hybrid picking you could never do very easily with a pick. You can switch from a hybrid picking part to just a pick picking part very quickly or switch from just pick picking to hybrid picking part very easily if you practice switching enough. Its way harder to hold your pick in your mouth or put it somewhere and than grab the pick fast.

sounds a bit like the main refrain from "Eyes Wide Open" by king crimson on The Power To Believe (2003)
