I would not upgrade to the set he is playing as yours is a bit better. I would stick with Roland and just upgrade to a higher end kit. That way you will have a much better drumming experience than upgrading to what may look better but really does not perform as well as the kit you already have. Hooking your kit to a computer and using a VST will greatly enhance your experience on your kit.

I would not recommend that kit. Only the high end Alesis kits are worth considering. Also he is using a Simmons module and Simmons has poorly recorded sounds. For great accustic realistic sounds and playability you need to go with Roland, Efnote, ATV, DWe, or Pearl Mimic Pro. If using low-end or a crappy e-kit running the sounds from a computer VST is best.

It is a smallish kit and not even worth considering. The higher end Alesis kits are worth considering and made much better and can be used on stage. The lower end Alesis kits are pretty much junk. They have upgraded some of them and discontinued the older ones. The newer Alesis kits now have white mesh heads, so the kit he is playing is an older not very good model.

He is obviously a beginner to drumming. The kit he is playing is a lower end Alesis. High-end Alesis kits are worth looking into, but there are much better brands of e-kits out there, with very good realistic recorded sounds. The Simmons module he is using has horrible recorded sounds. The Alesis module that originally came with that kit has a bit better sounds. Also I think he is using a cheap speaker and if you use a drum amp crappy sounds will still sound bad but not nearly as bad and good module sounds with a drum amp sound great. From this video it should not detour you from getting an e-kit as there are fantastic sounding e-kits that are 99.9% like playing an accustic kit. I just would avoid buying the one in the video.

@@Iamadrummer appreciate the feedback. I have a beautiful pearl kit I've had for 20 years , but it is so loud! I have long considered getting an e-kit so I can put on some headphones and get some practice because I have had too many chunks of years where I didn't have a place to set up, play, and drums were in storage like right now. Visited a different church this weekend and they had switched to a full e kit that looked completely like a regular kit and it sounded incredible. My main thing with these kits is the cymbal sound. Always gives this strange hollow reverb when you give it a lashing. Other than that they sound absolutely amazing. The guy drumming was filling in and actually the son of one of the band members, and he killed it. Talked to him about the kit and he said he absolutely loved it and was super curious to check out all of the different sounds and effects. Definitely would be easier to transport one of these(Not necessarily the type he was playing) for playing out as well, especially in an environment where you need to control sound quite a bit like a small bar or a church. Will be looking into it. On disability so money is tight. Any suggestions on something to start with under or around a grand?

You have ro have a speaker or earphones. No good e-kit comes with built in speakers. Also if considering getting an e-kit there are better kits out there as the one he is aying in the video is an older Alesis model and not concidered a great kit.

A drum amp would enhance the sounds but not make them better. A computer and a VST would greatly improve the sounds. He is using a Simmons module and Simmons sounds are just poorly recorded. The Alesis module that comes with that kit has better sounds than Simmons but personally for a good accusic like drumming experience I would avoid either brand.

Is that DA25 loud enough to practice with a bass & guitar player? Usually you need to make sure your guitar/bass/vocals are loud enough to balance drums but nice thing about digital is that you can play at lower volumes.

The kit is small. Higher-end kits are bigger. Lower-end e-kits are smaller with not as good sounds to keep the price low for kids to learn on. Higher-end more professional e-kits are designed for adults and more advanced drummers.

Ok, kit to learn on, but I would have saved a bit more money and gotten a better e-kit rather than a toy. The Alesis module has much better sounds and tweeking ability than the Simmons. Higher end Alesis kits are good but not the lower tear ones. Simmons kits are, not that grea and their module sounds are horribly recorded. Roland, Efnote, and ATV make the best professional e-kits. Watch tons of drumming videos on KZread and practice the hell out of your kit. Once you are decent in a year or two I would sell the kit you have and get one that actually sounds and feels like a real drum set to play. You just banging on the kit and not really playing anything makes me cringe at how awful your kit is. If you plug it into a computer and run a VST you will at least have better sounds. A better sounding, better triggering, higher end e-kit is a total game changer. My e-kit is so darn good and fun to play I do not miss playing my accustic kit as my e-kit is just like playing my accustic kit with the added bonus of being able to change kits for different songs and tunes. The other thing is putting the drum kit on the bare floor should never be done. You always want your accustic or e-kit on a rug. On bare floors you will end up scratching the hell out of the floor. Also of you do not use a rug your bass drum will always slide away(scratching up the flooring). Also a rug dampens the vibration sounds and just enhances the drumming experience. Sorry to say unless you are playing a groove or a song the video just shows me you really do not know much about drumming and need lessons. As I had stated KZread is a great place to start. Good luck!
