Yep. I'm thinking about getting this because I used to have the non mesh nitro before I switched to an acoustic kit, but it's just too loud. You can also add cymbals and toms btw, so you don't have to use toms as extra cymbals.

I just purchased the Alesis Surge and setup was extremely easy, even without instructions. This is definitely an amazing kit for the price. The Alesis module isn't too bad, but some presets can sound very canned at times. This is my first drum kit, but I do plan on using EZ drummer and it's MIDI interface to replace the stock module sounds. I play guitar, bass, keyboard, and I'm also a vocalist. Now I can finally write all my music myself. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself! 😂

Do yourself a favor. Call the warranty service department and request a new snare right now. It will develop an issue with sensitivity and give inconsistent sound. Rim triggering with the snare crosstalk causes weak sound. They won't ask for old one because this has happened with all Alesis drums sold last year. But it will take months to replace. Tell them you messed with sensitivity settings to no avail. Say only the tom pads sound full when snare input is plugged into them. Register at the site first to make things go faster.

This is a PSA to anyone who's looking to add on to this kit. Alesis offers the nitro expansion that you can find at most music stores. I picked up the Surge as well as the nitro expansion kit thinking there would be no issue. In a way yes, there is no issue, extra Tom and cymbal pad work just fine of course, and despite looking different, the tom functions just as well. There's only 1 problem that was a complete oversight. I didn't research the rack diameter for either set, and come to find out the nitro rack is considerably smaller than the surge, so the clamps do not fit at all. But here's the thing, I actually had an old Turbo Mesh sitting around, and that rack is the same as the Surge. So I robbed two off and problem solved. I found it rather crazy that the lower end mesh kit had a better rack than the nitro (which is plastic, I believe). The only reason I can think is that Alesis has to use a cheaper rack to make up for lost costs using the Module that it comes with. So just be aware that if you want to add on, make sure you take into account the diameter of the clamps beforehand.

I have another 10" cymbal coming in tomorrow so I will see if the choke works on it. I just happened to get an extra 8" tom with it also. I am not sure if there is enough room on the rack to fit it in. (4) toms. I could just use an extra stand but I am hoping I will not have to. So yeah my extra 2 inputs on the module will accept another tom and cymbal. I understand that. This non choking cymbal thing has me wondering though.

Here you go - kzread.info/dash/bejne/aGR_l69mdqWZd6Q.html. This guy has been in the e-drum scene for a long time. Basically, the Surge is great buy and the Commander is overpriced in his opinion. I think I have to agree, because though the command module looks newer and does support limited sample loading, both kits are really designed to be used with VST's. When used with VST's, it makes the Surge the obvious choice. The only other difference is that crash and ride cymbals mount directly to the kit corners on the Commander, where the Surge uses clamps. I had the old DM10 set that had the cymbal mounts built into the stand like the Commander, and they started getting wobbly after heavy use for a couple months. I almost consider that "upgrade" to be a downgrade really. Both great kits though. I'm personally torn between getting the Surge now, or saving up a bit longer to get the DM10 MK2 Pro kit. That's the kit where you'll start to see some big changes. The DM10 module is great and sounds pretty good, and you get another tom and cymbal, and all are bigger. The ride is 3 zone too. Tough decisions, lol.

When i plug my headphones in and try to play along with music from spotify the audio quality is beyound poor. I have to turn it all the way up to hear the drums and the music from Spotify sounds like a 1940's radio at best in mono not stereo. Its so bad i dint use it. What could be the problem?

Hey, nico3641. Thanks for your interest. It really depends how you set it up. The way Nick has it setup in the video, it really should take up much room. It does fit comfortable on a 5x7 rug. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com

I am going to be getting this kit in about 3 months. I am aware that there is a extra slot for a additional tom and as well as another cymbal. I was wondering what toms and cymbals were compatible with it and if they fit on the rack or I had to get stands. I can't find any KZread videos with this information.

Hey, papele75. Thanks so much for reaching out. Absolutely. It’s great for a beginner. It’s also very quiet due to the mesh. It also doesn’t need a lot of space. I have one setup in a a small bed room. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with a Millenium mps750x. Thanks again. Hello, hope all is well with your new kit. I hope you have set it up on some thick carpet. For best results I’d recommend something very thick like carpet padding, you may even want to layer it with some thick plywood then a rug on top to make it more stable and have more chance of dissipating the vibrations

Hey, Jörg's. Yes, you can. However, you need to make sure to use a double pedal that is fairly narrow when it comes to the distance between the two beaters. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com

I don't think so on this one, there's no USB input or anything to load them. But I know you can plug in your phone and jam along, or just load up the song in your DAW and jam to it. I know the higher price modules have input for loading samples and possible songs, but not this one.
