Beja!! Welcome to my hometown I love your channel and so happy that you came there!! Unfortunately it is a very sleepy decadent town which is very far of its full potential and hope things get better soon!! Also, you should have tried queijada de requeijão and the Porco Doce (pork made in almonds paste) in Café Luís da Rocha which is the most historic café in town

Sorry I missed Alentejo when I was in Portugal last year. I will definitely make an effort this year when I return. These food tours are great, but it would also be nice to have some of the locals on camera. I had so much fun interacting with them. It was probably the most memorable part of my trip!

Excellent, you guys nailed it. That is genuine Alentejo cuisine. The açorda is an excellent dish for a cold day, it warms up your body. The herb you talked about, poejo, in english is pennyroyal. It is also widely used to season olives (not the ones in a can, be the ones you can buy at a street market). Some people do drink pennyroyal tea, which seems to be good for respiratory issues.

I lived some Years in Beja in the 80s, had many Party Nights there ... love the country, the Food and the nice People from Alentejo.....

All the selections of music and images are just amazing! You show us the best! But remember this is just an introduction to Portugal and there is much more to see :))) até já e bom Portugal!

I'm American and I never been to Europe, but I am going to buy a one-way plane ticket to Portugal! I've been planning this for a while, been studying Portuguese and just waiting for the Covid situation to get better. Seems like an amazing country!

Happy new year to you guys, thanks :-) 5:14 this is a pie made with a kind of pumpkin, is called "Chila or Gila". Migas is a side dish to be eaten with the pork ribs. 9:50 We have more than a 1000 ways to cook cod fish. 12:30 Sericaia with or without the Plum is a desert originating from Elvas, is a desert invented by Nuns like many others in Alentejo.

Also as a Bejense I would suggest to discover delicatessen (chouriço, paio, etc. from the region) cheeses and olive oil (recommend to go to Lagar of Oliveira da Serra next to Ferreira do Alentejo)

I’ve stayed at the Pousada in Beja. Love Alentejo 🇵🇹💕🍷🍷

great food and amazing choice of soundtrack, José Afonso is amazing and up to date. Also check more portuguese music... Carlos Paredes, bagpipes, adufes, cavaquinho, folklore, rock... :D you have to go to the region of Coimbra to eat arroz doce, goat meat chanfana

Hello. I'm from Portalegre in Alentejo and have been around the whole region a couple times, although I can't speak for every place in Alentejo I actually find "carne de porco à alentejana" quite rare to find in the region itself. I find it much more frequently in Lisbon or central Portugal than in Alentejo. Even growing up i never felt like "carne de porco à alentejana" to be a common dish in mine or my friends household, in contrast with the other foods that you guys tried like migas, porco preto and cação for example. Love your channel btw. Happy new year!

You will find carne de porco á alentejana in the restourants near to the coast, becouse of one of the ingredients, that is the seafood called ameijoa. Thank for your pashion for my country that i love so much!!!

I've never had any of those dishes. I only had 'carne de porco à alentejana' and it's very good indeed.

U have to travel to Beiras Alta e Baixa, that's a part of the country that are amazing, teh historic villages, the mountains in norte and the plains in south, the food and the wine amazing, and Spain so near

You should try Abrantes! It's a small city in Santarém but has a lot of history and is well known for its pastry. It's also a part of Ribatejo so it has a lot of typical food, while also being really close to Rio Tejo so it has an amazing view from our local castle! ;)

My friends very nice video, most people says that "Carne de Porco á Alentejana" is not a dish from Alentejo but from Algarve, that's why it takes the clams and the cockles, the only thing from Alentejo that is in that dish is the pork meat.

You should try to go in Lisbon , in the Rua Dos Duques de Bragança , the tiny bar serves food from Lamego , a city older then Portugal , and they have tipical food from that city it’s name is Grau D’ouro . The owners are amazing friendly . They also have live music . You should try Bola de bacalhau amazing .

Back again, but this is one of your best... By the way, I discovered that the Alentejan Tomato soup differs according to the area, most do not use the cod, my favorite is the one that adds sliced boiled potato and little slices of bacon and green bellpeper

For food lovers Alentejo it's heaven...

Sopa de tomate is tomato soup but sopas de tomate is a type of açorda (the one you had before) except the broth is tomato-y. Keep up the good work guys! 👍

And Carne de Porco à Alentejana isn’t common or popular in Alentejo (Ironic, I know). That probably suggested by people from Lisboa 😝
