My sensei is from the same part of Spain. They have a very unique guard and punching style there, and it hurts like hell.

Well it's because it's utterly controlled and steered technique that doesn't allow fighters to hit punches to the face. But don't be fooled, these guys are bad mofos and they have an extremely high pain tolerance and endless stamina. They can literally kick your jaw loose. They tend to break baseball bats and chains with their legs. Kyokushin is the hardest form of karate in the world. Look it up!

I'm very familiar with it. There is plenty of value there, but you can see the inherent problem plain as day. Not allowing strikes to the face teaches you to keep a low guard and builds in bad habits in terms of self-defense and fighting. If you went into a fight acting like this, you would be picking your teeth out off the street soon after. It's the same problem point fighting arts like taekwondo have with overemphasizing kicks for points. That's not to say there is not great tools to learn that do applie to the real world. Many great MMA fighters have a background in Kyokushin and karate. I would just stay away from this kind of competition and any kind of training that restricts punching/elbowing/headbutting if you care at all about not building bad habits for actual fighting. But if you don't care about self defense and just enjoy this kind of martial art/sport no worries. The "Karate Combat" events are a much better example of how Karate works in a real fight since they don't have dumb rules that limit you from behaving like a normal human being in a fight. The no-punching-to-the-face rule is the classic backyard rule for kids beating each other up, which makes these tournament videos funny as hell to watch.

@@williamcharles7340They don't want head injuries. Kyokushin tournaments are a test of endurance as well as fighting spirit. No unarmed martial art represents actual fighting. MMA etc is just sport. If you have to fight actually just pick up a weapon. Guns are the best self defence as such if you can't buy a gun just pick up an iron rod or a stick or even a brick. You can even stab your enemy with a pen if need be. Only fools fight unarmed.

💢LENDA?

This might be the most boring fighter or even fighting style. A set of lady punches to the upperbody, some half ass low kicks, and suddenly an amazingly times and performed kick to the head. This won’t fly when fighting with any other discipline though…😅
