🎙️Lyrics
[Verse 1]
I was in Pittsburgh
when I saw Superman in the backroom
He was doing lines
or something in the bathroom
I barely recognized him at all
I saw him doing things
you shouldn't do with all that power
I wish someone
would've thrown him in the shower
I barely recognized him at all
[Chorus]
That night I put my youth in a casket
And buried in inside of me
That night I saw through all that magic
Now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
I burned all the pictures in the attic
And threw away the magazines
That night I saw through all that magic
And now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
[Verse 2]
I tried to look away
but you can't look away from a trainwreck
The things you said to girls
well they were shameless
I barely recognized him at all
I tried to help but he said
he "was just too far from saving"
And nothing I could say
was gonna change him
I barely recognized him at all
[Chorus]
That night I put my youth in a casket
And buried in inside of me
That night I saw through all that magic
Now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
[Bridge]
The death of a hero he couldn't be saved
Now I'm cutting the grass and I'll cover his grave
I'll cover his grave
The death of a hero I'm turning the page
Now I'm cutting the grass and I'll cover his grave
I'll cover his grave
[Chorus]
That night I put my youth in a casket
And buried in inside of me
That night I saw through all that magic
Now I'm a witness to the death of a hero
I burned all the pictures in the attic
And threw away the magazines
That night I saw through all that magic
And now I'm a witness to the death of a hero

I’m pretty sure this song is about a child who saw his father as his hero, he finds out one horrible night that his father isn’t as good as he thought. He broke down realizing that many things he thought were true, weren’t. His childhood basically ended right then. It’s about a kid growing up, realizing the world isn’t like how it used to be as a nieve kid.

For people wondering what this song means: Alec explained in an interview that the song is about someone he looked up to, but he caught them in the bathroom doing drugs or something. Then he realized he had to grow up.. so basically that’s why the song is called Death of a Hero. :) -Alexios

I interpret this song as someone who grows up looking at people like public figures (actors, musicians, authors, show creators, youtubers, ect) as role models. But as they get older they start to realize that their idols aren't perfect people and some are really shity. They try to ignore the news about them doing bad things but "you can't look away from a train wreck". Eventually, they accept that the person they looked up too isn't a good role model and they separate themselves from the fanbase thus ending their blissful period of youth. that's just me tho idk what Alec was inspiered by hdsfgdshf

The sad thing about so many of Benjamin’s songs is that a lot of us can relate to them🙂
I've looked up to my dad for so long, only to realize that he lies to me and my family all the time and he just doesn't care about anyone but himself. He even told me he'd help me learn better coping methods to deal with my anxiety(I punch walls, I know but it helps) but I guess he didn't care enough to remember. (Sorry about the small rant, just calmed down from a small panic attack)

My interpretation of the song is about an adult looking at himself from a younger perspective. He realizes as he grows and goes through life, he encounters obstacles (idk prob getting a job, adulting stuff and such😂) gets burden by responsibilities and getting things by any means necessary be it good or bad. The line "The night I put my youth away in a casket." and "The night I see through all the magic" imo means it's time for me to grow up and stop fooling around and start acting like an adult. "I barely recognized him at all" probably means he didn't picture himself turning out this way so he "burned the pictures in the attic and threw away the magazines" because the memory of him growing up is just too overwhelming for his younger self. "I tried to look away but you can't look away from a train wreck" means I can't do anything to change it but I'll have to accept what I've become and move on. IS WHAT I THINK?? HAHA idk man I just found this song today and now it's giving existential crisis but it's a good song tho,, 👌✨✨✨

Its about his idol who was doing drugs and it broke his heart so he made this song about him and mentioned his idol in another video relating to this one
This song reminds me of my older brother, when I was younger I looked up to him. I thought that there was nothing he couldn't do, and that he was perfect. It's been a couple years, and I realized that he wasn't perfect. He vaped, argued with our parents often and snuck out with friends. Although this may seem like "normal teenage behaviour" it still hit me like a truck. We don't talk anymore. Thanks for reading.

It's about his idol. He looked up to him and considered him a 'hero' once . But one day he saw him doing drugs and other dirty things. The same day he threw away his magazines and put everything aside. It's like he was forced to grow up and realise no such thing as heros exist . Humans are humans, no one is perfect. Sometimes we get too attached to someone only to realise everything they've shown us was a lie , either that or they're hiding a complete other side of them that makes us lose all respect towards them. I can relate to this too~ Now I don't look up to people much, and definitely aren't attached to anyone. I play it safe now.

For me "Super man" represents my older sister. I didn't know that anything was wrong. Then a year or two ago, my mom told me. And this is what it felt like. I keep hoping and praying that something will change. But even if it does I'm never getting back my childhood. I'm just a teenager. My dad says that I have been through more pain and heart break then most people will in their entire life. This song makes me cry every time.
He is soo underrated but why?? His voice and the song they are just perfect! Everyone has to know him
This song hit me hard. I used to look up to my dad till he started hitting me ( he doesn’t anymore ) and calling me a mistake whenever he got mad and I found out he does drugs, this song just reminds me of that

I bet you really love Alec Benjamin, because you’re making his songs very enjoyable with all the pictures and fonts. Some people like you deserve more than they have because they are grateful and show no hate. Oh, god would love you.
Sending love to all those whose Daddies and or Mommies are missing ❤️.
I relate to this. I thought of my dad as a hero for so long
This made me think of my brother, I looked up to him, he was my hero, my hee ya superman. Now he's in and out of jail, addicted to drugs, A domestic abuser and so much. It hurts to see the person I used to look up to stung out on drugs. I buried the little girl who saw her brother with adoration. Now all I see is a sorry man, whose still stuck in the mindset of a child.
Why his all songs are so magnificent ♥️✨
I’m surprise that this has 158 dislikes this is one of the best songs from Alec Benjamin:3
This is melancholic art.
This is possibly my favourite song from Alec.
I like to picture Superman as life . When we're Young we love life so much , we're full of Hope , hope of being successful , of finding love , then soon enough the reality of life hits you so hard , nothing you planned happens , people disappoint you all the time , people you love die , you work at a job you hate , you see how ugly humanity has become and those sweet moment become so so rare . So for me when I was young life was my hero , as I gotten old i'am seeing the death of it.
After hearing Just Like You, I think this song could be about how as children, we admire characters and concepts without knowing the reality behind them. And then when you grow up, and you learn about the real people behind your childhood "heroes", it can end up hurting you because those people go down dark paths and ruin the images you had of them. Basically killing your childhood, and killing your "hero"
Been on repeat for weeks
This song is so relatable. I had to "put my youth in a castet" at a vary Yong age to survive this harsh world too😢
This song feels so familiar some how. Like even the way it sounds feels like a childhood memory
this song hurts because i relate to it
I just want to know the story behind this song, like I want to know if he's talking about his dad or he saw someone wearing a superhero's costume, and he saw that person do something that changed how he saw that/ his mind about that person. Or that he saw his dad die and he thought that heroes don't die. Sorry for any English mistake, English is not my first language so yeah. P.S this is just my little tiny theory about this song
When the "subscribed?" Poll came up instead of keeping the second option at 100% I picked the first option, "y e s" and ruined it by making 33%.

god i still love Alex Benjamin, i saw him at a concert on the 13th February and omg i actually love him so much!!!
Love this song. Song to me is about losing your innocence. Something we unfortunately all have to face. They say death is at the end of life, but death happens us all throughout life, losing our innocence is one of them. Death of a hero, death of our innocence. A role model we looked up to as a child, we realize to be as flawed as the rest of us. The world isn’t fair. No ones perfect. We all have flaws. Santa Claus doesn’t exist, but the companies profiting off Christmas do. No fun to hear? Yep, I know, that’s losing your innocence. Great song mate, we all can relate.
for me, i saw my parents as my heros but as i grew up i realized my mom was emotionally abusive, and the only reason she brought me to life was to look succesfull, but never wanted to actually know me. sucked realizing at a young age that my mother geninely couldnt care less if i hopped off a cliff.
This song means so much to me. This song was playing late at night in my room. Then it suddenly stops and I got a call from papa saying “be wala na si daddy” meaning “you’re daddy (grandfather) is gone” he died in the ICU at midnight, and literally, That night I saw through all the magic now I’m a witness to the death of a hero. And even though years has passed I still miss my daddy.
I can’t stop listening to this. This made me feel better after I left this amazing place in Virginia and I had to go back to New York.
Is it just me or did anyone think of Ironman when u saw the title. I thought he wrote a song on Ironman after endgame, but this was not even close...

Unfortunately the world is full of broken people who put on a fake appearance for others..can't save them all but sounds like A lec may have learned you can't t count on everyone..put your trust in your creator❤
I think this is about a kid talking about his father and how far he had gone

2021 anyone ❤️
I’m from Pittsburgh and this hit hard
この歌何故か分からないけどalecの曲で1番毛嫌いしてたけど歌詞の意味知った瞬間めちゃすきになったんだよね。 やっぱりalecの曲で悪いやつなんてひとつも無いわ
The greatest instrument is his voice.
Damn I came from a mini amv all sad but hot damn these comments just made me cry my eyes out
These hits home with me and my dad
That's deep... I might cry...
My song for my dad used to be “one call away” by Charlie Puth. But now it’s this song. It’s a really horrible, sad story. I can’t help but cry every time I hear one call away, because he used to be my hero, but now, eight years later, he’s just the “superman” that Alec Benjamin put into this song. Life is rough lmao
This is my new favorite song❤
So good as always I'm so excited for you to come to salt lake for the tour concert 😄👍👍👍
