hahahaha yea I love how honest she is with herself. Some people are still searching for themselves at a ripe old age, while others don't really think it is important to have something that they enjoy doing. But that short period of silence spent pondering was amusing I must say. You can tell that she thinks a lot into stuff but she still has not found all the answers to them yet.

I think that, in true introvert style, she simply got caught off guard with the question and needed some time to access her long term memory and she wasn't able to in the end. It often happens to me.

Arne Claes Well, she is hosting them.. it's not a debate or an interview.. it's a platform for introducing to the world an artists or an new album.. it should be positive and supportive.. and more so Aldous communicates in a beautiful and gentle way.. she is not presentative in a common way and for Cheryl to give her the space to just be without covering it up is a great virtue..

The host... Is no one else getting a complete mother earth vibe from her???

That is a great compliment.

She's sweet but rough, she looks so wavering as she talks and yet she appears very confident and self-assured as she sings. I had the chance to listen to her in Bologna, Italy on November 15. She was not 'public friendly' at all, she played for about an hour, but I can say it was for me an astounding experience, she is so charismatic without any intention to be, she is shy but her music and texts speak always openly for her. I think she's one of the most interesting songwriters of the decade, she is original and yet classic. I think she's a very deep artist and I look forward to hearing her next pieces.

"I've never heard an Aldous Harding song," Aldous Harding. What a perfect answer. As the creator the way the song sounds and feels to her is entirely different than what it could mean to anyone else. She's got all the background and story to the song, the experience of crafting, trimming, killings bits of it along the way. All of that experience and time spent personally locked up with it to flesh it out? I can well imagine that Aldous Harding has never heard her songs the way her fans hear them, mores the shame. I wish that she could.

among her hobbies- "sitting in the dark." What do you like to do? "I don't know." I love interviews like this, it's a real conversation- It doesn't feel like the ten thousandth time she's telling an interviewer what she thinks about X. It's a fantastic musical performance, but it's one KEXP set where I almost like the interview even more.

This young woman is in touch with something elemental.

it's so funny you say that because I was introducing my old man to her and I was playing the first KEXP performance for him and he looked kind of distracted by something, and I was kind of annoyed, because I just thought he should have his full attention on Aldous/Hannah. He told me later that what he was doing was making sure he was REALLY seeing what he thought he was seeing, and what he thought he was seeing was a spider suspended in the air on it's web, dancing to her music, very clearly, dancing to Elation I think it was.

It's incredible to witness a person who has self-actualized and grown beyond the typical human experience. Aldous is an amazing person and a great songwriter. I wish there were more people like her in the world.

be so completely yourself that those around you feel safe enough to be themselves too. thats the entire vibe i get from her and why i love her so much like i honestly cant even really express how beautiful it is this was SUCH a treat, thank you.

To make a more commercial comparison she's like a Bowie or a Marylin Manson or a Billy Corgan. A stage persona that kinda bleeds into real life

Aldous has a peculiar energy and intensity in how she performs that is captivating to watch.

After an Emma Ruth Rundle binge, somehow I stumbled on "The Barrel." Soon after I searched all of Aldous Harding's videos, then listened to Designer and Party repeatedly, and then capped all that off with this live KEXP performance. It hasn't even been 24 hours.

After watching this full video 300 times it's nice to just jump around to the songs. :)

Aldous was the most intensely beautiful concert I have ever been to in years.

I looked her up a few months back and instantly fell in love. Luckily a few weeks later I caught a show in LA. INTENSE persona. Songs were FLAWLESS. She really seems to enjoys when people get her clown persona. It's such a relief to see a musician act like an artist where you can also witness the philosophical perspective flow as part of the entire tearing down of and creating reality. Her utter honesty feels eccentric & that's quite a statement as an artist to make- that getting to the root of your own being is so unacceptable. Forever in love w her. Fav song is The World Is Looking For You. Devastating beautiful voice and her variance of execution and evolution as a musician and songwriter is fascinating. Can't wait for more music

That's what I like about her. She's respectful, kind and interested in the artists she interviews which is rare these days.

Early on Aldous points, and says, _"He's my favorite."_ Later, Aldous tells the keyboard player, _"You're the best one."_ Aldous has quite the sense of humor.

I love how she balances out her guitarist's lack of a microphone by adding "he's my favourite". A small act of such genuine empathy and kindness.

I'm very different to the things that I'd actually do so, the things that I do.... and I've watched a lot of films and I eat a lot of food.... and I sit in the dark you know.... and I do that kind of stuff like I'm on my phone. @@h.a.s.42 exactly. She's not being evasive, and knows how she spends her time. Just as most of us spend time reading books or watching TV, it's not terribly interesting to discuss with any depth. If it was an actual conversation, they could go into, 'oh, what are you watching these days?', but there's no time or context for that here. I think it's a function of her refusing to supply pat answers.

Usually people are willing to do a lot of the interpretive work when asked something like "What do you like to do?" or "What do you do?" Ms. H takes it very serioiusly and comes up with "Well, there _is_ no 'What I Like to Do." There's just, what I _do_ ." I'm entranced.

what a singular artist - an absolute delight to watch

Saw her in Brooklyn last year. She's a MUST see. I would travel great lengths to see her again.

HAH the part about what she likes to do and what she actually does sitting in the dark on her phone is so relatable & hilarious!

God to hear Cheryl talk about being an involuntary fan girl at her age. Is so sincerely awkward and good. I love this session so much more.

I know, because of the internet there are people like me in Russia, Nepal, Ghana or the US. Culturally, depending on my upbringing, I might despise certain other cultures. With the internet, regardless of my culture I find reasons to bond with others. Like you and me over this beautiful music. I don't care about your color or if your ancestors killed mine. I care to agree it's a miracle the internet brought us this piece of art and we had in common good taste to appreciate it.

I discovered Aldous Harding two days ago. Until I saw this interview I thought that she may not be of this world. Now I know that she is human, and a genius.

The most captivating performance and interview ever. I adore Aldous Harding's song writing. I listen, and find myself taken away within a torrent of inner feeling's and emotions. I've been lucky enough to see Aldous and her band play live twice. On both occasions I experienced many tingles throughout the performance, which was an absolute joy to me. Many Thanks KEXP and Aldous Harding.

YES! So happy Aldous Harding is playing at KEXP again. Last time I was very angry at the DJ for not asking enough questions; my apologies to that previous DJ. Cheryl Waters did a fantastic job interviewing her, thank you so much; Aldous Harding is such a fascinating performer. :)

"Damn" is absolutely stunning. This whole performance is stunning in general.

I wish the YT ads would not show during songs. Else always checking performances in KEXP. The best sound/mix.

I'm guessing it's just her new persona because I've checked her previous KEXP interview and Alsous looked waaaay more present there. Or maybe she's just let herself go here I dunno. But oh my god poor Cheryl :D

Cheryl is weeeeeell aware that she is dealing with a young, self-conscious person, and is being very kind... The naïve enquirer approach... The performer reminds me of a cross between a young John Lydon and the dude from Deehunter...

She used to play open mic nights here in Christchurch, Lyttleton NZ. She has been amazing since day one xx
