ALDGATE TO UXBRIDGE | Metropolitan Line Cab ride
Ойын-сауық
Thanks for waiting! And welcome to the second edition of our Metropolitan Line cab ride series, this time covering the line to Uxbridge. Similar to last time, the video features graphics and captions with little fun facts as we go along, and, although this is the last cab ride we have recorded we should have more on the way soon!
Unfortunately, due to issues currently out of our control, a blank version without graphics won’t be available for now.
Please do not ask about how we obtained this cab ride or if we could get you one, your best bet is to email TfL directly. And, do not try to access any areas where you are not authorised to do so.

Spotted myself waiting to board this train at Farringdon! Wearing a blue polo shirt carrying a black bag at the end of the platform. Travelled to Ruislip Manor. A daily trip back to home.

@@thechilterntrainspotters Thank you so much for this video. Thanks also for the informative captions(!) I used to travel this line in the 1950s. As a youngster of 12, I would set out with a packed lunch and ride all over the LT network. It was safe for a lad to go adventuring on his own then. I could write a book of reminiscences, I think. Well, a long short story anyway. Thanks again for an excellent production. I look forward to more! From Alberta, Canada.

Most probably the best quality video cab train ride, I’ve ever seen. And unlike some cab train rides… at least there’s sound to it. I’ve never ever been on a tube / met train before…… going through London’s underground system; So…. taking this particular cab ride gives me a good impression of what it’s like travelling through all of these stations dotted all the way around London. Wonderful stuff !!! This is a line I travelled often when I lived in Harrow in the 50's, with Baker Street one of my favourite haunts (when the Bakerloo line ran all the way to Watford) and also Uxbridge particularly for the Trolleybuses, the bus garage and Red Central area and Green Country buses. Happy Days !
Thanks for the video, im 73 and used to travel on this line as a child,bought back such memories.
Excellent video thanks - as an ex-pat Londoner 12,000 miles away I love watching cab views around the old home town. Look forward to any future productions.
Wonderful trip down memory lane. I rode this line many a day going form Eastcote to Baker Street while posted in London with the U. S. Forces. Amazing how much has changed. Thank you for this video
Have used most of this line in my time. Used to live along the parallel road between Finchley Road and West Hampstead. Used to use it to Barbican for work, but occasionally had to work in Uxbridge so used all the rest of it. One day, remember us moving onto Kings X, but by the time the doors opened, I saw people looking down at me. I had fainted and was flat on my back. Was helped up and onto the platform. Sat down for a couple of trains, then continued my journey.
Oh, we need this line in TSW2. this is far more exciting than the Bakerloo.

Oh how the old slam door ones used to roar in the tunnels and the lights flickered!! Fun for a kid!😆
This brought back memories from the 1965 when I was a guard/driver on the met, I then was a signalman at Neasden depot and finally a station inspector. Strange not seeing any signals from Aldgate to Finchley Road. I take it that the scc is the Hammersmith one.
It’s amazing how much of the run is in a straight line!
Love your videos thanks you for uploading and sharing. Not being London (or near) born one of my greatest delights on visiting the capital is riding on the tube, it doesn't really matter where to but I am suddenly a small boy again (in my 60's now!) Each time I visit I try to go somewhere different on a different line just for the experience. To Londoners the tube is nothing special of course, just an everyday facility.
fantastic video loved it from start to finish
Superb, can't wait for more.
Thanks for the memories, I used to live at Hillingdon as a boy. Always a good adventure going to London with mum and dad on the train. You should mention the connection to the Ruislip central line depot just after Ickenham.👍
Was in two minds when they were to replace the A60 stock because it was the last of the creepy underground trains, where it had no announcements for each stop. Was always enamoured with how far out it went. London always was a closed off sort of place so any mode of transport that steps outside of London was always interesting. Thank you for this. You do know the main reason why they announce the next station on the route, is for the benefit of blind or visually impaired people who will not be able to see when it is their station. It's not really for you and I (capable of seeing). Similarly the on train displays telling you what the next station will be, are principally for deaf people who can't hear announcements.
Great video - fascinating to see all the underground infrastructure so clearly. One nitpick you don't arrive "into" a place, you arrive "at" it.

Your angled camera makes for a more interesting journey, colour and prospective, makes it more realistic, thank you, Patrick Northamptonshire
At approx 2:41 you can see on the right hand side the curve opened in 1875 whereby Metropolitan Railway services ran into Liverpool Street mainline station itself. Last used 1904 and connection severed 1907.
As some have said below. Beyond Finchley is Tripcock and not Protected Manual as the system isn't installed past Finchley Road yet. Protected Manual is only to be used to drive manually during the cbtc area

So eerie seeing how dark it is from the cab, I wonder how much this affects the drivers.

At 35:30 the train has clearly stopped before the green board, which I thought must always be in the side window in line with the cab so that the doors are able to open. What is the situation here then?
@thechilterntrainspotters
2 жыл бұрын
I’m not completely sure, but it could have something to do with signal viability and that the driver did not want to get too close to the signal for visibility reasons or a potential tripcock application.
2:11 As the new signaling system is moving blocks signaling, fixed light signals or block markers (like Central line) are not needed along the line. So that means the “H” board that replacing the old signal has nothing to do with the new signaling system. But it will still be placed at the position where the old signal used to be and the old signal's number will be kept on the “H” board (like MRG 015 written on the board in 2:11) to help driver identify where he/she is when contacting the control center. Am I right? I just want to make it clear about the “H” board.
@thechilterntrainspotters
2 жыл бұрын
Essentially, yes
@traindrivergamer4279
2 жыл бұрын
The H boards are called hold boards and are only used when the train is being driven in restricted manual which is not controlled by the ato system, the driver will have to stop at each hold board and then contact the signaller who will authorise the driver past that board and will give a limit of authority move to either next station or to another hold board if there is one before next station. Where some hold boards are located before a set of points the driver will also get a white LED sign displaying RS (route secure) and then a number from 1 to 4 depending how many moves can be done at those points. if its a trailing set of points you will only see an RS1 lit up as thats the only move available and is lit to confirm to driver and signaller points are locked and set to go over them.
i know this is an old video but its the mode they drive out of finchley road is called tripcock mode not prot manual

@@thechilterntrainspotters Good to hear Some small comments: 1. Before Ickenham there's a siding. I presume it comes from the Central Line's depot? Also the bridge before that is the Chiltern Mainline to Birmingham via High Wycombe I guess? 2. The Met's route to Uxbridge is slightly circuitous which is why the journey takes slightly longer than it should be. Ironically the Picc is probably even slower.
