Discover the alarming effects of alcohol on your body, brain and appearance this video! From my nursing experience, teaching experience and person experience I explain the many ways excessive alcohol consumption can harm your health, from short-term effects like impaired judgment and coordination to long-term consequences such as liver disease, cardiovascular problems, and cognitive decline. I also give little rays of hope for what happens when you stop and can heal!
I discuss how alcohol affects the vital organs, including the liver, heart, and pancreas, and how it disrupts the delicate balance of your brain's neurotransmitters, leading to mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Thank you for this video! I had a bad relationship with alcohol for over a decade. I thought I "needed" it to sleep. Around my 40th birthday I realized I didn't recognize myself anymore when I looked in the mirror. It was like someone came along and stole my beauty. In addition to the weight gain, bloated face, dull eyes, and all that. I quit drinking in Jan 2022, and I am now 43. I get comments from people thinking I am much younger than I am, and I have been able to lose the extra 40 lbs. I had accumulated from wine, vodka, and the horrible food choices that go along with that. Funny enough, I wouldn't want to feel drunk anymore for anything in the world. And the sleep, oh the sleep! Giving up alcohol was the best thing I ever did for myself, and quite honestly, my family and friends too. I'm so much more present and engaged.

    @@catherinelussier1559 good on you for realizing before I did! The fact that it is on your mind is a good sign… it was on my mind too. I knew I needed to stop. What really sent me was getting my blood pressure at the doctor. Every time I went, it was higher and higher and my cholesterol was high as well. After changing every single thing except drinking, it still wasn’t going down. I just made the decision to try one weekend alcohol free. Instead of the trip down the wine aisle, I went to the soda aisle and got a pack of La Croix. I still lean on sparkling water and Diet Coke. Also, sweets. I never considered myself a dessert person but I let myself eat whatever I wanted, as long as alcohol wasn’t part of the equation. The last thing is stay busy and come up with a routine. I leaned into my nightly epsom salt bath and started a good skin care routine. Last thing is to make plans early the next morning after the nights you would usually drink. A hike while hungover sucks, while a well rested, sober hike feeds the soul. These are just things that worked for me. I wish you all the luck in the world! If I can do it, so can you! 💛

    I had a horrible relationship with alcohol (weekend binge drinker) for 10+ years. I am now 12 months sober and man, this was worth it! I will never go back. I used to dream a lot but haven’t had 1 single dream in 10+ years. A few weeks ago, I started dreaming again. That means it took me 11 months of no drinking for my sleep to normalize before I started dreaming again? Is that even possible? I know, my sleep has been f****d up for MANY years, I just didnt think it would take that long. You can tell this woman don’t drink. Her skin is perfection 💯. My skin will prolly never get better from all the abuse it went through with alcohol. Oh well. The feeling alone of being sober is well worth it. Thankfully I wasnt a full blown alcoholic so I didnt have any withdrawals when quitting. I can say though I don’t EVER have any cravings. I also wonder if my brain will heal. I know it has had damage over the years just not sure of the severity. I feel like my dopamine wont ever stabilize though. It had been 12 months and dont think it has yet and prolly wont ever by now.

    I love ❤️ good beer and wine and tequila but as I’ve gotten older, my body does not! what took me from 5 drinks or more a week to 2 drinks of my choice a month or even none now was the nighttime anxiety after just a couple of drinks! I don’t really feel that much more amazing with super super limited alcohol, but I knew I had to just cut it almost completely out of my life, so I did. That was a year ago. Even with almost no alcohol, I still don’t sleep well. I don’t feel like I had any epiphany or I rose like a phoenix or anything after turning away drinks, but I do feel a little more present In the moment and that’s a plus. The reason I cut way way back is my age and health. I’ll be 60 this year. This is a solid video for those considering what it’s like on the other side, but I think moderate and light drinkers may not get that full host of amazing changes that heavy drinkers get…that said, any positive change is still great! ❤

    I wish my 84-year-old mother would stop drinking. Over the last two years there’s been several events that have occurred that are very disturbing to me and my siblings. Last spring, she fell and tore open her knee and now she is in wound care with a wound that refuses to heal, she starts drinking every day about 4 o’clock so I never call her at that time because I just can’t stomach speaking to her when she’s under the influence of several cocktails. She has a lot of health problems. We have encouraged her to go to AA and to try to get sober, but she refuses to do so. It’s very hard to watch you can’t make somebody stop but as I said, it’s very difficult to watch and while we are watching, it’s very difficult to not feel guilty but me and my siblings really don’t know what else to do sometimes I feel like I’m waiting for the bottom to fall out. I thought this fall with the knee and wound injury was it but it is not. She continues to drink.

    My marriage broke up because I was unimportant compared to drink. The drinker was mad he ruined his body and he got sloppy and lazy. The sloppiness helped me because his brain was mushy and he couldn’t hide his resentment and jealousy. He drinks because because of guilt and boredom. For at least 25 years he hasn’t been able to go 3 days without a drink. None of the physical symptoms have struck him because he’s got one of those perfect bodies. No cavities, no sickness ever, no pain, sleeps and poops anywhere on the minute. But basically it’s a good thing his brain is ⏬️ since it could help with the psychopathy.

    Thank you so much for the information 🙏. I’m on my recovery journey but I’m finding that I keep going back because I have a spouse who drinks heavily. I know that it is 💯 my decision to drink, and I’m not blaming him, but it also makes it 💯 harder to quit. Do you have any advice?

  • @PriusTurbo

    @PriusTurbo

    2 ай бұрын

    Have your responses prepared ahead of time so you do not get caught off guard. If you know your spouse is going to tempt you to drink, be ready with your reason not to. A favorite phrase of mine is either "not yet, not right now, or not tonight" which disarms the person that wants you to drink. Oftentimes, it seems that people just want to to have the first few drinks with them but they could care less after they've had four or more. Once they catch a solid buzz and stop paying attention to you as much, you have won. So say something like "not tonight, I'm working out/going for a run in the morning". "Not yet, I want to eat dinner first". "Not right now but I might later." It's been my biggest hurdle as well. I just got to a point where I expected the coercion to come eventually and I treated it like a fun game to avoid it because at the end of the day, it's ridiculous for someone to want you to drink. "What? You don't think I'm fun to be around unless I'm drinking?" It's actually a strange concept if other people need you to be intoxicated if they are going to do it. I experience this often in dating and I will just tell the date it's going to make me sleepy, which is true unless I have 5 or 6 drinks. If I can order a soda water with a lime beforehand then no one ever notices or cares. And if I order one among people drinking I can say I'm staying hydrated. If you get to a point where your spouse has to sit you down because he is concerned about your non-drinking.... Well that isn't going to happen! It's your brain, your body, your life. Inspire those around you with your health and keep finding ways to say no without being abrasive.

    One note: Alcohol itself is not high in sugar. Alcohol is high in alcohol, at 7 calories per gram, which makes it the second most calorie- dense calorie source. Alcoholic drinks often have carbohydrate, which is broken down to ‘sugar’. Beer has carbohydrate, wine has some, and mixed drinks are often pure alcohol- vodka, gin, etc- mixed with syrups, pop, juice. The sugar does not come from the alcohol molecule.

    There's nothing wrong with alcohol in moderation I am so fed up of people talking about alcohol as if it was really bad only bad if you can't control it so please stop talking the pleasure away from people that enjoy a drink and further more every one knows the ins and outs of drink also of cigarettes just leave people alone to live the lives how they choose so I would appreciate it if you could stop talking about alcohol just if you have a problem than stop taking the pleasure away from people that have it under controll
