When I reach for Danger Money to listen too. Automatically goes to side two (song 4 on CD). *2)* Bruce Springsteen - The River (CD) - Love Disc two (hate the singles). I don't listen to Disc One. *3)* Ambrosia - Life Beyond L.A. (vinyl & CD) - Love side A. Don't remember a song from side B. *4)* - Level Head - The Sweet (vinyl) - Just listen to side A. After "Love is Like Oxygen". Time to change the record. When I got the CD, I started to like side two as well. *5)* - The Wall - Pink Floyd (vinyl & CD) - The Wall is too long. But I just love everything on side A & B (Disc 1). I rarely ever listen to side C & D (Disc 2). Until I recorded the vinyl onto a cassette tape (for the car) that I listen to the rest of the album. Honorable Mentions (CD): *The House of Blue Light - Deep Purple* - Tracks 1 - 8 *Aldo Nova - Aldo Nova* - Tracks 1 - 7

    I had to learn to appreciate the second side. Shockwaves has some stellar riffage and a great hook. I love Iommi's solo on Air Dance and the opening riff. I learned to appreciate Breakout because it's such a bold departure. In a very unexpected setting or weird dance party situation you're trying to endure, if Blackout suddenly blasted out of nowhere I'd be raising the horns. I'm now very glad Iommi had the balls to try the horns. Ward's song, Swinging The Chain, just goes in one ear and out the other.

    I consider "Moving Pictures" as solid from end to end. The kind of album I would listen to end to end without skipping anything. 2112's second side is kinda lightweight. "Passage" does have a brilliant instrumental bit and certainly rocks, and "Twilight Zone" is kind of fun, too. Lessons and Tears don't do much for me. But none of these can compare to side one. Whereas Hemispheres had the brilliant "La Villa" and the quirky "Trees".

    I had that REO Speedwagon on vinyl when I was a kid. The record is long gone and I never re-bought it. As Pete went through the songs, I remembered every track from Side 1 and none of the tracks from Side 2, which likely meant I probably only played the second side a handful of times. My most lop-sided album, from about the same time in the early 1980s, was "The Steve Martin Brothers" which was stand-up comedy on Side 1 and banjo music on Side 2. The last thing I wanted from Steve Martin when I was 12 or 13 was banjo music and I don't think that side got played more than once. I still have it and I listened to it again recently. The comedy doesn't hold up, but I appreciate the music now.

    "Tarkus" was the one I thought of first and foremost when I began watching. Couldn't agree more, that one album is the epitome of burning 95% of the gunpowder on the first side with little left over for the second. Pink Floyd's "The Wall" suffers from the same thing with the second disc dragging the album as a whole down from the piedestal for me.

    Cool episode as always. I do not have a lot of albums to add "on the fly", but I will mention that I do believe Boston's legendary debut was pretty front-loaded. The second half was definitely good, but Side A is just out of this world. One album which is the total opposite is Jane's Addiction's "Ritual de lo Habitual", where Side B is clearly superior to Side A. Oh, and regarding the track sequencing: I believe Lemmy once said that sequencing a record is easy. You just put the best tracks as the first three and the final three, then people will think it's a great record ;-)

    Popoff and Pardo at it yet again with albums starting strong and starting to wane on side two. Great topic, gents, and another fun show. Van Halen's Fair Warning always seemed to drop off for me after Unchained. Yes, that is the start of side 2 and So This Is Love tries to revive side 2 a bit but the drop off of the other songs on side two don't provide the excitement or thrills that an early Van Halen record should give. Looking forward to the song ending discussion next week. Once again, thanks for another fine discussion and entertaining show.

    I've never heard it admitted but I'm sure Labels fronted loaded some albums. It tended to be the more commercial stuff - the singles are usually close to the start if not the first song on side 1. The proggers and more curious delved into the second side and found more interesting better gems and I think the musicians also preferred some of the second side stuff as well. Then again some of the 'fillers' were always planted on the second side. Depends on the bands of course and it definitely wasn't always the case with the big stars. Front loading tending to apply more to the commercially orientated, especially of the mid 70's onwards. Albums I can think of are: Queen - News of the World, Jazz; Foreigner - 4; Journey - Escape, Frontiers;

    The big flaw of UFO’s No Heavy Petting was “A Fool In Love”, which was a cover (Frankie Miller song), a totally redundant and still inexplicable choice (if I read the remaster liner notes again, maybe I’ll remember how the hell they recorded that song). I personally love Highway Lady (and Paul Raymond appreciated it as well, as he wrote Just Another Suicide for the next record, trying to keep the vein of Highway Lady, as he said himself!). As for Martian Landscape, believe it or not, it was quite favorite on the “independent” (“pirate”) rock radio stations back in the 80’s-90’s in my home town (Belladonna was an even more huge hit) ! The first four tracks, you think you're listening to the greatest album ever made: No Action, This Year's Girl, The Beat, Pump It Up. Then it comes back down to earth, albeit with a few more godlike tracks interspersed throughout the rest of the record: I Don't Want to Go to Chelsea, Lipstick Vogue and Radio, Radio. Again, I love the album, but it doesn't quite live up to its knockout opening, not that any album realistically could.

    A lot of people here mention Defenders of the Faith, which I don't agree with. I mean, yeah, the A side has both Freewheel Burning and my favorite Priest song, The Sentinel, but I don't consider the B side to be that big of a drop-off. Night Comes Down and Eat Me Alive are at least as good if not better than Rock Hard, Ride Free or Jawbreaker. The two outro tracks are probably the reason people dislike the B side so much, and yeah, it's not the grand finale everybody was probably hoping for, but I don't think it's the worst outro either. Heavy Duty has a pretty nice riff and it's hell of a lot better than some of their other anthems, like United and Take on the World. And Defenders of the Faith is repetitive, yes, but it's shor enough to not overstay its welcome. It could have been better, but what we got isn't that bad, is all I'm saying. At least not to me. Also, this got me thinking about albums on the opposite end of the spectrum, that is albums that start weak and improve as they go on. The first album I thought of was A Matter of Life and Death. I've never liked the first four songs on that album that much, but after that, each song is a masterpiece or just about, in my opinion.

    Moving pictures went the exact same as me. Some songs hit me right away and some take time and then are brilliant. Me wonders and really thinks if it were more balanced and I wasn't finding it a chore to flip the record and listen to side two...I may have appreciated those side two songs earlier...say if camera eye was sandwiched between limelight and YYZ...who knows

    I don''t know how you missed out on quite a few of those Tull boxsets . No chance finding them cheap either. Ones like Minstrel, Thick As A Brick and Songs From The Wood go for silly money second hand. I was lucky enough to be in at the start on them or there's no way I'd have been able to get them. Ironicaly the expensive ones were like $20 at the time. Try finding them for under $200 now, usually more. I was lucky enough to get my A La Mode from the official store and it came with a postcard signed by Mr Anderson himself.

    Interestingly, the 2 albums I thought about were "High And Mighty" by Uriah Heep (although I think "Confession" is great) and "Never Say Die" by Black Sabbath.

    Lamb Of God - Ashes Of The Wake Metallica - Hardwired Amorphis - Halo Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind Those are the first that comes to mind but as you guys said, second part of the album is not bad but first side is just a lot better
