Sorry the background music around 5:02-5:20 sounds weird, I had to pitch it down for copyright. Enjoy the video!

Your point on silent running sounding like Damon singing about the subject matter instead of 2D is a problem I've had with modern gorillaz. In general since humanz it's felt like the whole virtual band aspect has slowly faded out and Damon loses sight of what the project originally was. I know what you mean of knowing when 2D is singing vs. Damon, and I haven't felt like 2D has sung as much in ages

Cracker Island for me is a bit on the midlle of the rankings, but i will forever be glad because this album brought us Controllah (is a hit here in Brazil because MC Bin Laden was a huge meme back 2015, so was kind of a fever dream when we saw him collaborating with gorillaz)

I am very biased towards this album Around the album release..i had some serious issues going on in my relationship, not go go into specifics i was broken but i knew i had Cracker island to look forward too..and long story short this album helped me so much throughout that break up and this album will always have a special place in my heart and will forever hold a top 3 spot in my Gorillaz album rankings

They did not have to go so hard on a song called captain fucking chicken. Best track on the album.

I find it interesting that this album was by far the most they've played up to the whole '2D is innocent boi must protec' thing that fans cultivated online, only for none of it to go down well at all, even with the people that created that idea of him. It feels like from Humanz onwards we either get decent character moments but very little story (Humanz and Song Machine), or a nice story with very little character moments (The Now Now and Cracker Island). We get one or the other these days, I guess.

Funny thing after phase 3 the original writer for the lore left so it was just Damon writing the lore from phase 4 and then on which also explains why the original ending for phase 3 was retconned

I'm really disappointed in how the album turned out. After releasing the title track, I was so excited, the idea of a gorillaz album about the occult was so awesome! And the social commentary that went along with it. But I feel as though the actual album is so far from my expectations. A lot of the tracks felt off topic in subject matter, such as Baby Queen and Skinny Ape, and almost all of the tracks felt off topic tonally. Too many bright happy sounds on what I was hoping to be a dark but fun dive into the occult like the title track was. The title track was the only song I really loved from this album, and I agree with a lot of your points. My least favorite main gorillaz releases. Although I did quite like the story and being part of the community while the album was dropping, just wish the static channel actually had some kind of pay off.

A great album held back by and awful producer, aka Greg Kurstin who is a hack producer who also ruined Beck's 2017 album, Colors. He just has a way of sucking out the life and soul out of anything he touches, and you can 100% hear that if you compare the album songs to the bonus songs who he didn't produce. Also, Tormenta should've never been on the album and felt like something forced by the studio, as Bad Bunny seemed to pop up pretty much anything around that time (studio plant?!). Imo, Song Machine is still by far their strongest album post-comeback, as it felt the most Gorillaz out of all of them, plus Désolé is imo one of the best Gorillaz songs in general.. amezing track. PS; the fact they had freaking de la Soul and Del The Funky Homosapien (with Del not being featured since their first album), who are both part of two of their biggest songs ever yet only had them on BONUS songs, is downright criminal! PSS: People don't just dislike Bad Bunny being on the album because he is popular... he's also a massive d*ck IRL and a lot of people are tired of that ''Reggaeton/dancehall'' or whatever you wanna call it music as it's so played out by now. I personally can't stand that genre and hated to see something like that on the album when there were better bonus songs. And no way you gave that song a higher score than the one with Beck or as high as Skinney Ape!

The story of Cracker Island was not the best in my opinion, Russel and Noodle were given little next to nothing to do with Russel being brain dead through half the phase and Noodle was just there when the plot wanted her to do something spectacular and don't even get me started on Moon flower who is practically just a plot device much like Paula was, she's accentually flat character that is there to cause friction between Murdoc and 2D, she has no real personality of her own to where I barely consider her to be a villain much like how I barely consider Paula to be a villain not only that but felt like her redemption was rushed for the sake of plot, also did Jamie forget that 2D isn't pure, I mean did he that he was an absent father in phase 2 or what about phase 5 where he was a textbook a-wipe? Also I was a bit disappointed with the character designs too, I thought they would how did in the cover art, they looked good in that. But I didn't think was a bad album, liked about 3 songs that being Cracker Island, New Gold, and skinny Ape, and I do like the commentary on influencer culture even if I thought they handled it was bit so and so

Noodle has been such a big character in the gorillaz lore that i actually like how she was put on the side for an album. I did dislike the 2-D being pure thing tough, 2-D has always been... well... adorable but he has always had a kind of edge to him, sometimes more (demon days) and sometimes less (self titled). I feel like they cut all of the edge out. But at the end of the day the main focus of a phase is the music wich i liked. The only main problems i had with the music was that posession island was kind of an undeserved ending and wouldve fit wayyy better if the album was more sad and that the best tracks were on the deluxe edition wich isnt on cd form.
