And I am old enough (in my 70's) to have seen many of those lost performances. One that quickly comes to my mind is a bit where, like the jugglers on Ed Sullivan who had 10 plates and 10 poles and their trick was that they would, by the end of their act, get all 10 plates spinning on the tops of their individual poles. As he worked his way up to all ten, he would have to monitor the ones already spinning and sometimes have to quickly run back and forth, adding more speed to the previous plates to keep them spinning as he started on others. ANYWAY, Brooks comes out and does the same thing, except with 10 different people standing in a line and he announces that he is going to get all 10 people laughing AT THE SAME TIME. And, just like the well-known juggler that everyone had already seen, he starts with the first person - dropping his pants - and that person starts to laugh; the next in line and he slips on a banana peel and so on. As he reaches the 4th or 5th person, the first people begin to stop laughing, so he has to run back and "invent" new gags to keep the laughter going as he adds new people further down the line. And the icing on the cake was that he did it all to the familiar "Plate Spinning Tune" of the Sabre Dance. Oh, if I could only see that again!

@@marionlomboy8217It's not, really. It would be no more ironic than a person named Tom Jones at birth mentioning the much better known Tom Jones in a conversation where that might be appropriate. If there is any irony here, maybe it's that he was named Albert Einstein in the first place. I mean, he was born shortly after the end of WWII. It's not like Albert Einstein wouldn't have been a well-known name at the time.

Here because Jon Stewart mentioned Albert Brooks and his impression kit as one of his favorite late night talk show appearances. Meh. His other favorites, Steve Martin’s Great Flydini is much funnier.

Albert Brooks owns Latin America? (5:09) As well he should. Most people couldn't handle the Samba like Al can.
Oddly enough, Albert Brooks' real name is Albert Einstein.

Too bad that those lacking laugh ability at Ewe-toob get to garble the wording of truly talented comic geniuses like Albert Brooks (at minute 12:29 et al) only to profit from this video nonetheless...

@@policevanposition1993 I was referring to this video, not the course of the whole show lasting decades. There is an interview with Johnny on here where he explains why he didn't like bringing up politics on his show and on the rare occasions he did it was always done gently and kindly, not viciously like the late night "comedy" hosts do today.

Dude was a legend. Would not have been given the time of day in our 2023 PC world.
Look at how intently Johnny is watching and laughing. David Letterman never would have done that with anybody. David was kind of a stiff. Cold. Aloof. Unresponsive. But, yes, I used to watch him all the time.🤣

I disagree with you about Dave, yes, his style was a little different from Johnny but letterman was always willing to play along and be the good host, just different approaches. The way you described Dave is the way many people described Johnny
