In case anyone missed it elsewhere, Bertha will reach 'native' soil depths (below the fill) along the middle zones of the tunnel route.

It would be a good idea of making a train that goes in a circle to transport soil and other stuff constantly, but much smaller.

What the video doesn't show is how the machine breaks down 1/7 of the way in, stalling the project for 2+ years and running billions over budget. They're rerouting the traffic this weekend around the exit portal on the other end, because it's ready and the tunnel is a long way off. Still it has to be completed, you have to finish what you started, or it's all a waste.
