This was the second leg of the trip from Seattle to Lihue and a new route for me! It was a great flight with a great cabin crew.

I've always enjoyed that greenish mountain scenery (& Nawiliwili bay) just before I landed in Kauai multiple times. It's like a visual appetizer for all the crazy-looking scenery I've seen in Kauai in the several times I've been there!

Last time I went to Kauai a few years ago was on this same Alaska 737 between SJC-LIH. It had friendly, helpful staff, it was a very nice airline to deal with.

Normally we would have flown Hawaiian but it was literally a last minute decision to go so we just went with Alaska because of timing. I just wasn't impressed with the food in first on Alaska haha

Very few airlines have edible food, so I ate a meal before my flight, so it wasn't an issue. All airline food is so notorious fast-food-godawful you can't judge an airline from their food alone. But they were nice enough to give me a free gin-and-tonic since I offered cash for it and didn't have a credit card at the time. I guess they thought I was a cute passenger, lol.

Not sure if I'd go to Lihue right now with all the lava flowing there?

John S. There are no active volcanoes on Kauai. The eruption is on the Big Island of Hawaii.

No, all the volcanic destruction is on the Big Island about 300 miles south of Kauai. Kauai's volcanism is completely extinct because at 5 million years it's old enough that the earth's plate techtonics moved it hundreds of miles north of the volcanic vent that spawned these islands. A vent that's directly below the Big Island now. At only 800,000 years the Big Island is the newest piece of land in the world. It's not even finished being born yet, from all that Kilauea volcano dumping so much molten rock into the ocean, forming new land even as I type this sentence.
