Alanis Morissette - Uninvited (lyrics by GoodLyrics)
Like anyone would be
I am flattered by your fascination with me
Like any hot-blooded woman
I have simply wanted an object to crave
But you, you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Must be strangely exciting
To watch the stoic squirm
Must be somewhat heartening
To watch shepherd meet shepherd
But you you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Like any uncharted territory
I must seem greatly intriguing
You speak of my love like
You have experienced love like mine before
But this is not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
I don't think you unworthy
I need a moment to deliberate

It’s crazy how I listened to all her songs over and over, and even tho I read the lyrics 13 yr old me didn’t fully understand and appreciate them. Absolutely amazing.
She does pod casts now. Amazing. Talking about trauma and codependency. She was searching for her true self and talks about the road to recovery.. I adore her honesty and authentic self.

Just wait until another 20 years has somehow slipped behind you. When you hear songs from yesteryear, they tend to force certain thoughts and feelings you had forgotten about to resurface. You will mentally relive mistakes and victories, joys and sorrows, times you fell and (if you're lucky) rose again. You will suddenly start awake and realize just how much of life has passed by. It will be bittersweet. Mark my words.
This is where a true broken heart turns to.
The song haunts the soul.

@@kill_rozainofficial4966 You can thank the minor-sounding Mixolydian mode and slow beat of the musical arrangement-- both of which create a sense of dread or angst -- plus her hesitant, pained lyrical cadence. I have a deep appreciation for song construction, and this one is masterfully crafted. And I'm with you and lancelot in that I'm not what you'd call a Morissette fan.
I haven't heard anyone mention, how primordial spiteful, this song is. When you read the lyrics onscreen, you see the full, dark grey rainy day somberness. Then awe, and humbled respectfulness. To the extremely morose, and dire , stark realization that the narrator, singing these words too you, having been led to believe they were the most sweet, and daunting, righteous, Angel. Only to tell you with no remorse, or any kind of affection, that you never meant anything to them, you were just practice, for their own selfishness, and false pride. Playing you for a blithering fool, just like the Fallen Angel, ( and we all know who we are talking about), you have read about, and heard about, and been warned about. Said he was going to do

A long time ago, a friend of mine (a psychologist) asked me to show them a picture of me as a child where I felt very happy. Sadly, the ONLY one where I remember being absolutely happy was my Kindergarten picture. When I sing along to this song, I am singing to myself at age 6. Sometimes it makes me sad to remember that; and sometimes I get mad. But then I realize that I am way stronger than me, at 6 years old, ever thought I ever could be and would become now!
Wow so much feeling and emotional stirrings from this unreal tune 😮

Speaking as a life-long Alanis fan: Alanis had won 38 awards, including 7 Grammys, and has been nominated for another 80. Her most fammous album, Jagged Little Pill, was #1 in thirteen countries, sold over 33 million albums, and went 10x Platinum just in the UK. She's been featured or sampled in multiple other Billboard Top-100 songs. Her most recent album, Such Pretty Forks in the Road (2020), hit #16 on the Billboard, bringing her total album sales north of 60 million. What part of that is underrated?

This song is so powerful! I can relate to her so much she is an amazing angel! ❤❤
I had to play it because the theme to Severance on AppleTV reminded me of how good a song this is.
Legend where does that persistence come from Unique and unbitter task of success only a enemy will crave ..
Such a tremendously talented artist who has contributed to musicians and artists everywhere. This particular song is simply about two people in some sort of relationship. For simplicity, let us agree on a woman and a man. The woman realizes the man has been making assumptions about "her" love life which is simply ridiculous and asanined. She is informing him that he has crossed a line and that his opinions and thoughts about her love life are uninvited which makes him uninvited and no longer welcome. The woman is taking a stand to let him know how he has been reckless and she is done with their relationship be it love, work, professional, or otherwise. She is demonstrating self- empowerment and confidence. Now that is sorted, I urge you not to stop at this song and listen to her other work. All of her music has a story to tell with a little side-eye 😏😏 and smirk!😏😏 Enjoy!!!!😉
When past lives collide ❤
This song could easily be a hit in 2024. She is such a badass.

t.y. for sharing this. I'm so glad I've heard this masterpiece again....After the yrs it's still 🔥. The crescendo of music towards the end makes it sinister yet beautiful as does Alanisette's vocal skills.
Came here after hearing this in the Yellowjackets trailer, which was eerily powerful and made me simply crave this song like Alanis craved an object
This song has so many layers but all I can think of is two people who started as friends, one oversteps and the other sympathizes "like any hotblooded woman... an object to crave." suggesting the speaker gets where the other person is coming from with desire but is firmly telling them with the rest of the song: "You have absolutely killed your place in my life by stepping over a line you were never meant to try crossing. Even if I understand and do appreciate your interest, this can't happen." And shuts it down HARD. Adding to that the mental image of the last line, dangling that last second hope that maybe they could still "be friends" only for the MUSIC of the CHORUS to be the ending slap to the face that says "nope, never mind, get out." The sound itself of that musical climax being the final slamming of the door hits with my brain literally showing me a person slamming the door in the face of a hopeful fool thinking maybe there's a glimmer of a chance. Could just be me applying it to scenarios that happen over and over in my life with people I thought wanted one thing but were angling for another that I had to completely soul-destroy to get them to take the hint. But you know what they say, it's all up to interpretation. Lovely song, will always love this song with it's power and depth and I will never grow bored of reading other people's takes! So GOOD! ❤
initially, i felt intimidated by the power of the song. It was so beautiful that i could not help but sing along even though i don't feel good enough to sing it. don't we feel the same way about liking or loving someone?

The lyrics are powerful. Just listen.
The Stoics are especially known for teaching that "virtue is the only good" for human beings, and those external things-such as health, wealth, and pleasure-are not good nor bad in themselves (adiaphora) but have value as "material for virtue to act upon."

Love that song. ❤️
Absolutely beautiful music.
This song is cryptic and has Nuances with phonetic detail like … “The women” and truly literary. More a poetic masterpiece and will like poetry have different interpretations depending on the the audience and there own life journey. Personal came across this only recently watching inspiration-4 documentary and it hit me straight away, I stopped the documentary had to listen to the entire sonnet. Couldn’t believe I’ve missed this intellectual composition. I spent the next hour researching it. This speaks of a woman and as a man who has lived, has all the hallmarks and complications of understanding a woman’s feelings??, the mystery you can never quite own. Which is the allure of romance and it being just out of your fingertips reach. Rarely are there so poignant records that touch you, especially if you’ve had that relationship that was just that slight bit out of reach, and the reasons your not allowed. Love itself can be a journey even if for what ever reason the romance of it never came but shaped you and the way you love. As once said “better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all”. For myself I have loved many times, but “in Love” we may only experience once; I thank that love light in my life that’s carried me over half a lifetime . Love the last verse . She keeps the embers burning … … yours truly forever x
The title of the song is Uninvited, meaning no attention towards her wanted from anyone.
