"Zen Clues" is a talk by Alan Watts, a philosopher who made Eastern ideas more understandable for Western people. In this lecture, Watts explains the key ideas of Zen Buddhism. Here are the main points from "Zen Clues": 1.) What is Zen?: Watts explains that Zen isn't about thinking or using concepts. It's about experiencing things directly and understanding your true nature. 2.) Seeing Reality: Zen teaches us to see things as they really are, without using words or ideas. True understanding comes from direct experience, not from talking about it. 3.) Meditation and Awareness: Meditation (called zazen in Zen) is important. It helps quiet the mind, lets us watch our thoughts without getting caught up in them, and increases our awareness. 4.) Paradoxes and Koans: Zen uses paradoxes and koans (puzzles or questions) to stop logical thinking and help us see reality directly. 5.) Simplicity and Spontaneity: Zen values keeping things simple and being spontaneous. It encourages living in the moment and acting naturally without overthinking. 6.) Ego and Self: Watts talks about how Zen teaches that the idea of a separate, independent self is an illusion. Realizing this helps lead to enlightenment. 7.) Zen in Daily Life: Zen practice isn't just about meditation. It's about being fully aware and present in everything we do, no matter how simple.

Mr. Watts like most "philosophers" talks, and talks....I agree often, but i cannot escape the fact that...."go on and do something." His words....My arranging....Moving on

I think someone recently called it "the taboo of awe" - this embarrassment we have around astonishment, as if cynicism were the sober, mature attitude. Cynicism is the attitude of depression. It's truly unfortunate that adults are meant to be bored and disappointed; we have more than enough of that already.
