Senator Simpson still has that ability to use his wit as a teaching tool. He was always one of my favorite Senators even though I live nowhere close to Wyoming. We need a few more Alan Simpson's in D.C.

What a nice, nice man...another true gentlemen built on kindness and humility. He can joke about himself! I could hear him talk all day long!!

I always loved watching Alan Simpson when he was a guest on ABC'S Nightline with Ted Koppel. He always told the truth, and always told it in blunt terms. He did not waffle, he did not hesitate, he did not duck anything. I miss that directness. He's an eloquent speaker and his tribute to the late President Bush today will be remembered by all of those who were present as well as by those who were privileged to watch the service.

Simpson delivered words that any person could relate to if they're human, with sympathy, empathy, honor, humility.

Mr. Simpson comes from the humorous angle along the lines of Tip O'Neill. They got along with Bush and Reagan. A time when people worked together to solve problems.

I once attended a conference where Sen. Simpson was the featured speaker. At the end of his remarks, he said in his dry, Western drawl, "I'll open it up to questions from the floor, but they always come off the wall."
