Chorus:
Yeah way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a little about love
Aw haw

My grandma just passed away after being married to my grandfather for 59 years. Everytime she put this on, he would walk downstairs (bad back and all) and slow dance with her. Didn't matter if they were angry, he would drop everything to dance with her to this. I'm here to grieve her and keep her memory alive. She was my best friend.

Love this song - not just about Georgia but the entire rural America! Also, if you help a turtle across a road- put where its headed and not where it came from- instinct is what guides it and it'll just turn around and get back on that road if you reverse its course! But dang I have always loved this AJ tune. And the hootch flows just a few miles from our house!🇺🇸

Thanks for the tip on the turtle, I always put it in the direction which it is going in a forested area. I helped a small turtle cross a road about a year ago. My friend helped too. She was driving. I have helped snapping turtles but they are harder to pick up. I don't drink though, no thank you. I love this tune because it helped me advocate against date rape in my high school. Because she wasn't ready and he didn't rape her, he took her home instead and then got himself a burger and went to the river instead of deciding to rape the girl he was making out with. So the bullies in my school who were rapists also did not have anyone telling them it was wrong but I could walk down the halls singing this song and tell them me and Alan Jackson think its wrong, so not just me. Better not to hurt girls and make them bleed a lot and give them ptsd for being abused by rape. Just go get yourself a veggie burger and chill by the river. 😇 And then just get married and save your virginity for Jesus (even if you're a guy).

I'm a 2001 kid and I love it. Country music has gone downhill, I listen to some 2000s music, but by amazing luck this song was on the radio. I like Hank Willams Sr. to the 2000s, 2005 is my limit. After 05' country music lost its identity with Florida Georgia Line, Zac Brown Band, Taylor Swift, Big & Rich, and Blake Sheldon. I could go on and on listing bad country music artists, but I would really rather not. The sub group called "Bro Country" circa 2010, that shit happened when Florida Georgia Line released their song called "Cruise"

One the best country singers of all time !!! I love this song and I love Alan Jackson..❤..from Fort Worth, Texas

You know whats so cool about this music video besides the genuinely amazing piece of art he just sang? In a time where it was the cool thing to act like you're not having fun (and its still probably that way nowadays) this guy is having an absolute blast doing this video. He cracks a huge smile on many occasions in this video. I absolutely love that. So many people try to act so serious. Hes just out there having the time of his life.

It is so upbeat and optimistic, no matter how you felt when you walked in, you're in a good mood after hearing this. I am going to try to sing this myself next time I'm out. I want to thank you for taking the time to reply here personally. From one singer to another, I wish you all the best. Robert
