Love and appreciate the fact that you explain so SO well of why contact pose is called a contact pose and passing pose as a passing pose. My professors just straight up say now let’s do contact passing up down etc poses without explaining what they mean or what they are. It’s not very motivating not knowing what they mean. Not knowing the real meaning makes me feel rushed. Like either just go with the flow and do it without completely understand the concepts of why we need those poses or fail. Great explanation. Such a life savor.
I've found that a looping walk cycle won't look slidey if you time the tween right. It can take some adjusting to get it right, but I do it all the time. Love this tutorial, by the way.
@AlanBeckerTutorials
9 жыл бұрын
Yes, true, you can tweak the speed and distance to reduce the slide, but there are two other factors: the distance the foot travels in each frame has to be perfectly even, and often that is hard to predict. Also if you animate the cycle on twos and the tween is on ones, it will always appear to be sliding. But yeah if it's on ones and perfectly spaced then it works.

awesome tutorial. feel so much more comfortable with them already after watching and trying it myself.
Probably the best Walkcycle video i've seen so far. great job!
I guess I wasn't _completely_ off when I tried making a walk cycle... xD Great tutorial Alan! :D
Thank you so much for this! It really helped me out on an animation I'm trying to do. Your explanation was clear, easy to understand and the examples you gave visually really put across what you were explaining! Thanks again!
This is one of the best animation tutorials! You got to the point without any excess info but not excluding important info.
Thank you! I am a beginner cartoonist and this will really help make my characters look like they're actually walking instead of awkwardly lunging across town XD
Great mini-lesson. I show this to my high school animation students each year!
Super helpful! I want to become an animator and I know I need to master the walk cycle first, and this was straight to the point, and so much shorter than other less helpful tutorials which lets me have more time to practice. 42/10 tutorial.
This tutorial is one of the best. Alan speaks well and gets to the point. He manages to provide a great amount of accurate information in 4 minutes of air time.
Oh wow!! Just Wow!!! You're tutorials are amazing!! I love them so much!! I love the 12 principles of animation and now this video is so thorough, and detailed in the ways of adding some more depth and personality to a character's walk cycles. I'll be rewatching this video a few times for sure! ;) Thanks for making another amazing tutorial! :D
I always sort my walk cycles into groups. (i may be a ten year old child learning from stuff on the internet but my animations are just above terrible.) It goes: Right straight, Left at an angle, Right at an angle, Left straight. Easy as that.

"It can sometimes look mechanical and slidey, like a video game character." As I'm using this for a video game character.
I’m a beginner so may I ask at 1:27, how do you do that. Also in everyday animation how is it possible to create a bigger scene but then move the camera around
Thank you so much for uploading these videos! They are soooo helpful and since I can't afford to go to college you've been my sensei
