Alain Caron - Slam The Clown solo transcription with TAB

Complete transcription of the Alain Caron's slap solo on "Slam The Clown", Rhythm'n Jazz 1995.
Alain Caron is one of the greatest bassists around, and also one of the most influential. Caron's sound, style, but above all, technique has revolutionized the approach to the electric bass. The speed, precision, and expressiveness with which he expresses himself in solos are due to his revolutionary slap technique. Double thumb technique on a 6-string bass to express funk and bebop phrases. Nothing like this had ever been seen before him, with the exception of Victor Wooten.

Hey, thanks a lot for this. I’m a big Alain Caron fan, can’t get enough of the guy. I seen him live in my province here in Canada a few years ago, he asked for any requests, so I yelled out slam the clown to him, and the whole audience started doing the same. He gave us what we wanted, and got to meet him and his Fbasses after the show. Very talented and very kind and nice in person.

You're welcome. It's a pleasure for me to share his music with fans and bass players. I made this video because I think that his fraseological style as soloist is very ispirational and useful for every musician.

Thank you so much! His funk/fusion style and his jazzy approach makes his phrases so intense and interesting...much more than his (incredible) technique.

Hi Paul thanks for your request, I was wondering about it...even if there are already lot of videos speaking about his technique. And my purpose is about transcriptions so...let me think about it. Thank you

@@alebox_bassman Awesome! But I'd have to disagree - I'm yet to find a comprehensive tutorial on his tech. But thanks for even considering!

The downside to this is when will I ever use this live or anytime, the other members in the band has to play the other parts.

The sad thing about this tutorial is that it doesn't decipher what notes are slap "s" or what notes are pop "p" --- a very important notation tool for any slap tutorial or sheet music.

Hi Water Bottle, this is not a tutorial about slap technique. This is just a solo transcription played in a way that sounds quite good to me, but I'm not sure that my choices about popping and thumbing fix the Alain Caron's technique 100%. Anyway, put the focus on the notes and phrases, and let your own technique comes out to play them. ;)
