But at the same time, did Punk show respect to Hangman or anyone else with a different vision than him creatively? We don't know. Remember his argument vs Jack Perry using glass was "let's not do dumb internet shit on TV". Did he have that mindset for every hardcore match/ street fight? Did he feel that way about lucha libre matches? Comedy segments? Maybe punk wasn't showing respect for all the styles on aew he didn't prefer, and unless you were backstage, none of us know for certain.

Been saying it for years now. Page isn't all that whatsoever. If he leaves AEW and tries to go to WWE, they won't hire him because of the Punk promo. Going off-script like that is a huge nope for WWE. Plus, he can't hold a candle to most of the other wrestlers on the roster, including NXT. Meltzer's 5-star ratings mean diddly-shit, always have.

Page also didn’t just say one “throwaway line”, he went COMPLETELY off script, thus ruining the entire segment because they couldn’t do anything they agreed on. That was the go home show for the PPV. How is that not a huge deal? How is that not something that should require massive punishment (only to not get any of it)? The receipt doesn’t even come close to how utterly disrespectful that was. At the point Punk “went into business for himself” (which, again, was only the one time when he first came back) it was fair game.

Punk was largely right. Guaranteed contracts and picking your own schedule has ruined the business - particularly AEW. Look, that's great if you're an employee but horrible for the quality of the product on TV. As we can see, AEW is a prime example of that. AEW is where wrestlers go when they don't want to work under a structure that's about putting butts on the seats. It's about them doing whatever they want - good or bad. Mostly bad.

It's interesting that you say this. Yes, I agree with you 100%. But when you read the word salad Dave Meltzer and outlets like Whatculture regurgitates, then you are force fed this Japan = great narrative. I legit once saw one of their writers make the case that a guy like Okada has an aura bigger than Brock Lesnar - which is obviously hogwash of course. The result is that these guys in the bubble forget how big WWE is and how universally their stars are known. It's not Omega, Naito or Ospreay on the Late Show. But because these guys are in the bubble, they feel that they get to look down on the WWE. So no, I don't think Page and Perry had any idea just how big a star Punk is. Yes, I hundred percent think they thought themselves on a level with him. Yes, you are right, they are dead dead wrong.

This just goes to show that there has to be a proper boss behind the scenes. End of. When VKM was in charge no matter how good or bad it was if someone went out to the ring and went into business for themselves - that’s them done, no more push and you’re going to take a your punishment out in the ring. Also this is where having talent who’ve spent time under Vince’s incredibly tight scripting or scheduling means that they know where the line is. HHH is showing that you can give talent creative license but ultimately it has to be approved. TK is allowing his talent to do what they want, when they want. As Punk said he's a good guy but just isn't cut out to be that ultimate authority figure, if he was then Punk wouldn't have been allowed to say what he said at All Out, VKM, HHH would have shut that down immediately.

He was also a poor champion who risked hurting their biggest draw right before he won the belt. He never got punished. That's on TK as well. That's what set everything in motion. If he would have been suspended or something and was forced to sit down with Punk and squash it, it probably wouldn't have gone nearly as badly.

Page was the only one who invigorated their match because Punk didn't care. Punk was there for the payday and to botch the entire match from start to finish, grab the belt, and bury talent along the way, which is precisely what he did. Adam Page was the only one who made the fight at the PPV seem like it had some sort of stakes. Funny how Page trying to do something to bolster business is seen as something punish worthy, but Punk going into business for himself (burying the locker room, burying the roster, burying Page multiple times live on air post-feud) is always justified by CM Punk's fans. You can dislike Page all you want, but the reality is that CM Punk is a giant hypocrite.

@@Billy-bc8pk Punk had a pretty good feud with MJF right before he went against Page, but he was probably fed up with the backstage environment by the time the Page feud happened. Some people have said that Punk tried to help out the young guys in AEW, but his advise fell on deaf ears. Even Regal tried to get out of AEW as soon as he could after he saw the backstage environment. If it was only Punk it be one thing, but I think he might just be the guy who voices the frustration a lot others are feeling but they don't want to rock the boat.

100% correct that Hangman should have been dealt with Immediately after that promo! That he was not spoke volumes and really gives credibility to Punk and others who say Tony has no leadership.

I know what it is like to work a job were you have to put the trust of your well being in the hands of others (military). If someone broke that trust over something as simple as a promo, I would not have blamed Punk for saying, "That's it I am not doing business with you."

Question. What is the difference between The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), "Hangman" Adam Page and Jack Perry? They give him more hugs. What you have to understand is TK wants friends. He wants to be friends with the wrestlers. If he feels like they are friends, then he don't care about anyone else. He is rich, so he doesn't care if CM Punk can make more money than one of his jobber buddies. He will defend the jobber. Cause money doesn't matter. He can't buy friends but if he throws enough money at people someone might act like his friend and that's what the Bucks did. Tk is a 40 year old man but this is how he's lived his whole life. Unfortunately like in real life, people are always gonna try and use you and that happens exponentially when you have that much money. I think partially it's due to the fact that Tony is a young internet wrestling mark. He's probably followed these guys for years in all there little indie shit they did, and he like it. He's a fan of the shitty style of product they provide. These guys were a flash in the pan like 10 years ago in the indies and also were one of the first indie guys to really get over on twitter and the internet before it kind of became the norm to do so. I"ve never liked the bucks, ever since they got into a "twitter war" with one of my trainers about 12 years ago or so. It only needed to happen once. The ratings are free falling. The death blow COULD come Wednesday if the backstage footage doesn’t prove to be whatever TK is hoping it shows. This company is in big trouble. And it started with Adam Page. This company was white hot before he did what he did.

While watching this originally, I thought it was completely counter intuitive. You had one babyface show another COMPLETE disrespect. The idea is always to build up your opponent so that when you win or lose YOU look better. Mox did the same kinda thing in his initial promo to Punk. It takes the steam out of the match. If this guy is such garbage, why should I care to watch you wrestle him?

Even after that promo , CM Punk was professional enough to go and have a match with a mediocre wrestler like hangman.Excusing hangman's behavior due to being young is silly plus he is not that young.

The crowd was so loud punk couldnt hear him. Now without punk THERE IS NO CROWD.

Except Punk could hear him fine since Hangman was right in his face. The reality is that Punk simply did not like that someone got the one-up on him on the mic and he had no response that would have kept him a babyface. The other thing was that everything Hangman said turned prophetic, and Punk literally proved him right. You know the best way to prove a liar wrong? By doing the opposite of what they say. Hangman was literally face to face with CM Punk. There was no microphones overlapping. Heck, watch some phone-captured footage of the promo if you don't believe me, you can still hear Hangman pretty clearly because he was speaking clearly and the crowd was silent. So yes, Punk absolutey did lie about the crowd making it where he couldn't hear, because the actual video footage proves otherwise.

No one knows who Hangman Page besides the internet marks. Everyone knows who Punk is. The man is a legend..

Some of this is reminiscent of the Rock and John Cena’s build to Wrestlemania a few years ago,‘when Cena called out the Rock for having written notes on his arm. Rock had no idea that Cena was going to use that in a promo, so when Cena went and used it, Rock was surprised and visibly angry. John went into business for himself without asking Dwayne first, and it had consequences. It caused the Rock to win the Mania match instead of Cena, who was supposed to win. You’re supposed to trust your coworkers in wrestling. When that trust is broken, it ruins business.

You had the EVPS on one side in Dynamite and CM PUNK on the other with Collision. Is there really a contest here?

I knew Adam page had bad character when he did that interview saying he didn’t need to take advice from anyone. That’s bull crap , you can always learn more and and evolve especially in a profession like pro wrestling

I agree that Adam Page shouldn’t have gone into business for himself, but CM Punk also shouldn’t have went on his crazy rant at the All Out PPV media scrum and air all of his dirty laundry and get so personal especially about Colt Cabana while sitting right next to AEW Owner & President Tony Khan and then proceed to have a backstage fight along with Ace Steel (and his dog) against 3 EVPS of the company Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks. Also, Punk shouldn’t have put his hands on Jack Perry and shoved him and then put him in a front face lock during their backstage argument right in front of Tony, especially after he was suspended for the previous backstage altercation with Omega and the Bucks. So the fact of the matter is that all of those actions by Punk were also disrespectful and totally uncalled for.

But Punk had asked and asked Tony Khan to handle the actions of the individuals and he refused. CM Punk also didn't go to the EVPs..they went to his locker room. Punk is also from a different generation where he came up with a guy like the Undertaker as a locker room enforcer. Respect, in that business, is very important. Tony Khan, the Bucks ,Kenny and Cody developed and have encouraged an unhealthy atmosphere, especially with the younger wrestlers, where they dont have respect, forethought, or patience. Look at how much crap Sammy has gotten into to.

I like hangman’s work in the ring. I have never been a punk fan but I appreciate that he can draw. To be honest I did not listen to this whole thing, but I think if both parties discussed it and agreed on it, then Page was in the wrong. He should of stuck to script and storyline for the sake of putting together a full story. On a unrelated side note because I was a wrestling fan of many years I almost spit out my coffee with how dramatic Russo was when talking about disrespecting the business. I know nothing about the business at all,but I know watch WCW and TNA it was train wreck. I think i could listen to Snow he is credible and paid his dues. I think Russo might have blacked out some years of his “active” wrestling career.

No disrespect to al snow hes a legend to me imo but i wish he would get a better mic. Its hard hearing him sometimes. Vince russo mic is perfect.

I read somewhere that Adam Page was a substitute school teacher before he trained to be a pro wrestler. It shows. His mentality is more school teacher/high school drama than acting like a man and pro within his business. Of course, no real man comes out wearing pink Dolly Parton shirts with frilly little butterflies all over it so the whole “I’m cowboy sh*t tough” is all a lie. I remember at the time Page and Punk had this issue, the marks and diehard AEW fans blamed Punk. But Page started the drama by going off script. Every single incident with Punk in AEW happened because “The Elite” were jealous of Punk and they were trying to get him fired. Punk represented a threat to them because Punk is a real pro wrestler and star. The Elite are grade school idiots who aren’t stars and don’t respect anyone. Every single incident could’ve been avoided if Tony Khan had stepped up and made “The Elite” be accountable for their actions and made them apologize to Punk. Punk didn’t start anything and TK never exercised his authority as boss because he’s a joke. End of story.

It was all over Punk face when the promo happened. He looked blind sided and wheels turning for a response.

I liked Hangman originally but his title run was just so underwhelming and his lack of professionalism I went off the guy

Where is Adam Page now? A forgotten about wrestler on a flailing show. Any guy that had a story with punk to this day they are benefitting MJF, Darby, Eddie Kingston. They were good workers anyway but it elevated them. Had Page kept his head, the company would have riding that Punk wave for months, instead Page and his friends derailed the company and to this day blame the other guy. That blame is all for them and when they try signing with WWE, those stories will follow them.

If this had happened in the territories or during the Attitude Era, someone's getting fired, and the fans by and large would understand that, or at least there wouldn't be a bunch of whiners about it. But it's 2024 and everyone's a whiny little bitch who believe stupid conspiracy theories, and they're very tribal, so if they see you as an outsider to their clique, suddenly they don't care about wrestling or their company and you're the enemy. Punk gave AEW their first million dollar gates. He was their biggest draw and merch seller. You can think he's a jerk, but Hulk Hogan politicked like crazy. Everyone knew, especially in the 80s, that he was drawing all the money, so nobody crossed him. This internet generation doesn't appreciate that. You don't get to become champion just because you think you're the best worker. That stuff is great, but you get to be champion because you either draw money as a babyface or you get the most heat as a heel. AEW isn't wrestling. It's cosplay. Sadly, I think a lot of the real wrestling fans left in 2001 along with myself and all we have left are the nostalgia gang on the WWE side and a bunch of nerds on the AEW side. All they care about is match ratings. Who cares if some dirt sheet thinks you had a great match if half of the building is empty? Bret vs Austin at WM13 wasn't a great match because of the storytelling, though that was important. It was a great match because it helped launch the career of arguably the biggest draw in wrestling history. In the end, it's about making money, not putting on a circus act.

Page was dead as a champion. He wasn’t drawing and never got any interest before or after Punk. Now he’s done and Punk is making millions in WWE.
