Al Martino Sings "Nessun Dorma" (September, 2007)
Музыка
In memory of the great Luciano Pavarotti who frequently performed it, Al Martino sings the fabulous aria "Nessun Dorma" from the final act of Puccini's immortal opera "Turandot."

hard to believe he was 80 years old when he sang this,a truly remarkable performance from a truly remarkable artiste. well done Al, rest in peace
Al Martino singing Nessun Dorma !! Couldn't believe it,even more surprised when I read the comment below that he was 80 years old at the time. Wonderful.
i grew up on Al Martino. I cannot get over the depth and strength of his voice even as an older man. AWESOME man.
He is 80 in this performance. Growing old gracefully, amazing.
There is something magical about him beside his voice. The gestures and the smile and the fact the he is one of us. I just adore him. R I P

I said in another of his videos that he was a very underrated singer, and never got the acclaim he deserved. I feel even strongly about that after hearing this rendition of Nessun Dorma.

Bravo!! What a magnificent performance!! A gorgeous man with a gorgeous voice! I never realized he could sing opera. I wish he were still here so that all of his fans could tell him what a great singer he is and how we miss him. Joanne
A phenomenal performance by one of the greatest singers ever.
From Spanish Eyes to Nessun Dorma. What a wonderful performer!
Let's hear more of this man! Great control and beautiful voice.
I saw him three years ago at the Kimmel Center in Philly. He was 79 years old, but he gave an absolutely wonderful performance. He sang songs that performers half his age would not have been able to sing. He was absolutely amazing. RIP Al Martino.

@@7120David One of the best baritones ever. What a voice. Smoother than honey.
He could sing it this way as an old man. Great!
Amazingly wonderful, this piece from Al Martino. (at 80 years old) He's left to the better place. He'll always be remembered.
Bravo! Al Martino straddles the boundary between pop and opera, singing like a professional opera singer.
what a waste, a great voice, brings tears to the eyes he's gone, rest in piece Mr. Martino
just as good as the opera singers, what a voice
This is a rather refreshing rendition of this iconic opera aria. As a vocalist who sings in both the contemporary and operatic style, I am impressed with Al, who being a soft-voiced "crooner" for almost his entire career, can indeed pull through this classical piece with style and not sounding a bit forceful. Although I must add, as Al was a baritone, the music arranger has lowered the key significantly to suit his vocal range. So I am not surprised that he had done that well. Had he been given the original Tenor key, I am certain he would not even be able to sing through the entire song! Anyway, this is indeed the first time I heard the piece transposed down for a baritone singer to interpret. I am a baritone as well, and I happily sang along with the clip, with virtually no difficulty at all!

Enjoyed reading your comment but disagree with your labeling Al Martino as a crooner. When I think crooner Andy Williams or Matt Monroe come to mind. When I think of Al Martino I think along the lines of a Robert Goulet. Might I suggest a listen to "Here In My Heart" by Al Martino" which I believe is his first hit record.

Mitch Miller, whom I interviewed at length, told me that Al Martino, like Tony Bennett and John Raitt, was in classical terms a tenor without a top-namely, a voice with the timbre but not the range of a tenor. Miller was an in-demand oboist who had played in symphonic and opera orchestras, and knew vocal classifications very well. What Miller’s singers had in common-and the young Al Martino exemplified these abilities-were to able to sing multiple phrases with one breath at full volume, and then sing softly, or “mezza voce,” without resorting to falsetto.
Excellent and quite surprise to hear this sung by him. It is great. RIP.
Very good, i've always liked Al Martino's voice, specially in "I Have But One Heart", and i never thought that he could sing this music... or sing it like that. Very good isn't nothing, EXCELLENT! And, of course, it's a very beautiful tribute to the great Luciano Pavarotti. 5 stars from me!
What an artist - he could sing anything
He sounds Amazing! Bravo!
only 5 years ago and still awesome voice. I also did not know he sang opera
@bluegibby7 I bought his first record & still have it. Here in my heart..He wa the best singer ever. Sang with his heart & soul. . Adored him. Saw him in person too.
Bless 'im. I've never seen (heard) an Italian/American crooner who didn't love opera and wish in his heart to sing it; Al Martino had a beautiful voice, and he sang a great tribute to Pavarotti. I'm sorry that both of them are gone now. Opera singers we'll always have, for better or worse, but where are we going to find crooners to replace the Al Martinos, the Perry Comos, and (God forbid we lose him too!) the Tony Bennetts?
Wow brilliant voice he still hadn't lost it ,what a great looking guy as well ,rest in peace al bless you Shirley h Darlington England 🌹⭐👍😘👌💕✋
Al was and is a wonderful singer ____ his voice is forever
One of the greats amazing voice for 80 years old.
A great performer and a great performance who we shall miss greatly
Al Martino is an awsome singer to me he has the best voice in the worldand ive heard them all. hats off to Al martino and such a powerful voice at his age
WOW, had never heard him do this.....outstanding!
My uncle saw him in concert, shortly before he died. He said he was still a fantastic singer right to the end!
Incredible version.
I never thought Al had it in him! WOW. Could have been an opera singer if he had chosen that path, for sure. Pavarotti shared his music with all different types of vocalists, and sang with them, and this is definitely "in the spirit" of Pavarotti's view of how music should be enjoyed. TY for posting.
Al Martino a Mario Lanza study with the same teacher they were gifted by God is true gentleman and they have brought me more pleasure my life. I did not know that I'm watching oppressed and I am very sad but I was happy to hear him do here in my heart and when I heard that I knew that he studied Opera because the voice is their talent is their God gave him a gift also gave my real on I love both of them I miss them God bless them thank you for the Memories.
he's one of my favorite singers, and he always will be. i am very familiar with his recordings and this is the recording from an album (a great album!) of all italian songs that he made in the early sixties. i think it's a great crime that most of his albums (especially the great stuff from 20th century fox is unavailable) are not released on cd. but i can't pretend (not even to myself) that a man in his eighties is pumping out this youthful sound. and it does him a disservice to think so.
This is a singer (talented; but not an opera singer) performing a tribute to a friend. Martino is not trying here to BE Pavarotti (as already pointed out, Martino's a baritone & not a tenor) but to pay tribute to him by singing an aria for which Pavarotti was famous. It's an insight into a different Martino from "Spanish Eyes", etc. & very pleasant to hear.
stunningly gorgeous.
Excellent voice!
First time i heard this song was in great yarmouth on holiday watching a comedy act the person singing it was phenomenal ❤
FANTÁSTICO , AL MARTINO..
He and Ed Ames both kept strong voices on into their golden years.
Remarkable performance considering Al was just one month from his 80th birthday! Way to go, Al!
Real singers are boundaryless. Their only limits are those who critique them. Al Martino is a legitimate voice. Period! Always has been, always will be.

Amazing he could sing like that at that age!
THIS AREA ALWAYS MAKES ME CRY FOR SOME REASON. I AM A VERY BIG LANZA FAN BUT LOVED AL MARTINO'S VOICE ALSO AS YOU MUST KNOW MARIO LANZA GAVE AL MARTINO THE SONG HERE IN MY HEART. THEY WERE CLOSE FRIENDS LIVING IN SOUTH PHILLY AND MARIO ALREADY HAD HIS BIG SONG BE MY LOVE. MARIO REALLY GAVE AL'S CAREER A BOOST WITH HERE IN MY HEART.

que voz por dios!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we had some greats - my opinion no one was better than A Martino l
BRAVO AL MARTINO. I wondered what happened to Al. Haven't seen him since "Godfather" He tried and we thank him. HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN HEAVEN LUCIANO.
Even if he's "singing" to a recording that he made in his early sixties it's still pretty impressive for a guy who was never an operatic singer. I heard Martino in person when he was in his late sixties and he was excellent.
Es fantástico, genial.
I read he was 80 when he sang this? Outstanding and moving.
So beautifully sung....Thank you Al...You're wonderful
This is great if you've never heard a singer before.
Great...just G R E A T!!!!!

Bravo!
Fantastic. His Italian album, while short, is exceptional.
@Juliaflo To be sure, I can't forget Frankie Laine, not even if I wanted to (which I don't!). In the 50's and 60's he was one of the magnificent performers we all loved. No matter how far away, they seemed like friends because they were as close as only the radio and TV could bring them. Thank goodness for them all.
Bella
Jeeze, I had no idea he could sing like this.
Al Martino is for me a natur talented singer. He beat 10000 singers. Few understand realy how big hes voice realy have been. If you ever reach 81 year, try to do this after him.
