I had the chance to meet Carl Weathers about three times over the years via conventions. I think with most actors, there's always going to be certain roles they'll always be known for, with Weathers it was certainly going to be Apollo Creed, with Dillion a close second. I remember that his table would always have plenty of Rocky and Predator photos to choose from with the odd photo from another one of his projects here and there. And of course people would bring their own items for him to sign, mostly Rocky and Predator stuff, myself included. However, on the final time I got to meet Carl, I took my DVD copy of 'Tour of Duty' the complete third season for him to sign. Carl had a recurring role of Colonel Brewster in that season and the show was important to me as it was something me and my older brother bonded over during the early 90s when it would air at midnight over here in the UK. My brother would wake me up so we could watch it together. When I presented the cover for Carl to sign I asked him if he regularly signed items from Tour of Duty and he said he didn't, in fact I think I recall him saying it was the first time he had signed the DVD of the show. He was actually really talkative about the show, how much he enjoyed it and he told me a couple of stories regarding the production. Thinking of that moment, I think it made me realize that while it's easy for us as fans to remember actors for their most memorable roles, like Bill Paxton as Hudson, I think actors will always appreciate it when some of their less well known works are discussed with them, especially the ones they enjoyed. And honestly? Carl was great in everything I've seen him in.

Carl Weathers was a power house and was never anything less than superb on screen. Nuance within strength was his hallmark, and it was a privilege to have grown up with his movies. I was hoping someone would do this. I'm really glad it was you. The novel shows Dillon as a much more sympathetic character than the movie. He calls Dutch and the team expendable, right to Dutch's face. He does not include himself in that assessment because pride, bureaucratic ego, and maybe a small kernel of guilt lead him to do so. His redemption is hollow, frankly. And his is the lost character, diminished by leaving the brotherhood for the cushy desk job. He was a very good foil, the agency monster within the unit and it looked as though Dutch and his boys were going to have to survive two horrors: those perpetrated by man on man, and those of a now larger universe, still unknown.

He always seemed to love his job. You can just tell when an actor is having a great time in a role, and he always had that energy and commitment to the part. I think it's a big reason why he could go effortlessly between action and comedy and sci-fi and drama and anything else. He loved his craft, and it shows in every frame on the screen. It's something the audience can always sense. He never phoned it in or gave less than 100% to us or his colleagues. Thank you for decades of amazing characters, Mr. Weathers.

I think one of the things that's been lost in modern movies is casting and you very rarely nowadays see a cast like Predator's, where every actor perfectly fits their role and makes the character memorable and iconic. Carl Weathers makes such a huge contribution to the movie, he's a legend and may he rest in peace.

I felt totally choked up when I heard about Carls death. Thanks for this fitting tribute to a wonderful actor and director. We have lost one of our finest.

This is a beautifully edited video. You combine the visuals that are all so familiar, with the passages of the novel many of us are not, to re-tell a story we know yet only so much. This is a lovely trouble to Carl. RIP Dillon, you never were that smart.
