    Hello, congrats, very nicely done. Quick question, which kind of drill bit did you used (what material) ? Just a standard metal drill ? I am not used to drill in carbon. Thanks

  • @gravelroadslovenia

    @gravelroadslovenia

    2 жыл бұрын

    Just a normal drill for metal/wood. I do suggest you make a smaller hole first with a smaller drill and go for the bigger one. By doing so it will be easier to drill the hole more precisely. However, drilling makes the finish of the hole a bit rough, therefore I suggested to finish it up with dermal to make things nice and smooth. Just be careful not to increase the size of the hole with it too much. Drilling carbon is nothing special. Its thin so its like drilling though a sheet of metal. The residue is fine black dust from the resin and the carbon fibers. If you'll need any tips along the way I'd be glad to help (I need about a day to answer)!

    I made the hole using a cone drill bit. Then I went around with a Dremel to smoothen the edges (normal sandpaper should work too).

    one question do you just have to make the two holes on the side or do you also have to remove the rivets.

  • @gravelroadslovenia

    @gravelroadslovenia

    2 жыл бұрын

    You can either remove the rivets and get the carbon off or drill the holes in the carbon. Both will get you to the bolts holding the baffles in. I personally did not manage to get the carbon cap off (it is possible but I don't know how). If you are planning to use the baffles every now and then, your only option is to drill the holes in the carbon. There are two screws securing the baffles, otherwise they might fall out without them.

  • @gravelroadslovenia

    @gravelroadslovenia

    Жыл бұрын

    The Akrapovic does add 2 hp over the stock exhaust, however upon taking the DB killers out, I believe you loose the 2 hp again due to the change in engine back pressure. If you were to remap the ECU however, you could see even bigger gains without the DB killers.

    Thanks for the view inside the muffler. The pupose of the baffles is apparently to just reflect the pulses back for another pass across the holes that expose the sound absorbent material. In Slovenian, is the "krap" in Akrapovic pronounced as the English "crap"? Where did you learn your English? It's quite good American English.

  • @gravelroadslovenia

    @gravelroadslovenia

    2 жыл бұрын

    Seems to be so! What I have also recently learned is that the pressure pulses created by the baffles (back-pressure) aid performance. The top speed with the baffles is about 10km/h higher than without. Yes that is correct, "krap" as "crap" 😂... I attended an international school. 🙂

    @@gravelroadslovenia - Better performance with some back pressure seems so mystical these days with catalytic converters. Back-in-the-day, before cat cons, especially in the days of 2-strokes, exhaust tuning that used those reversion waves was common.

    I heard it is possible to remove the carbon however in my case it was not possible. Rivets cannot be purchased from Akrapovic directly, however I did find a company that was their supplier. The ones they use are watertight and of stainless steel. They are identical.

    @@v.gousis2241 the company is called Pnevmotex d.o.o, and the type of rivet you need are "blok zakovica rf 4.8 X 8 ZAPRTA". If they will refuse shipping it to you let me know and we will work something out. When drilling the holes you will need a high end drill bit. Installing the rivets also requires a professional tool since they are too strong to be clipped in with a classic hand tool. Since I went through the process I would strongly recommend avoiding what you are planning to do. Drill the holes in the carbon and get the rubber covers from Akrapovic, it still looks good.
