AKG C636 Master Reference vs AKG C-535 EB (vocal microphone review)
Музыка
AKG say the C636 Master Reference is an update to their C-535 EB - which some say was a Frank Sinatra microphone. AKG documentation makes much of the effort invested in making improvements.
You may want to watch my previous video of the C-535 EB first but this video serves as a review of the 636 and compares it to the 535... garnished with an Earthworks SV33.

C 535 EB is a beast of a mic. Just look at that frequency curve... flat as hell with a slight strategic rise from 6 to 12 KHz.
Super presentation. Thorough and clinical demonstration. Thanks.

@@AntonBrowne hahahahaahahaha i have the sane effect on my self he said hahahahahah im crying in laughs hahahahahaa... we love you mister anton you are awesome in your reviews i watch all of them. And i must tell you that i have many microphones shure neumann akg earthworks , kms105 and 104 plus. Ksm8 and ksm9 and ksm9 hs. Sr314 and c636 :). And a lot of beta 58s and sm57 and sm 58s .. i own a small pa sound rental company :)..
I have x2 535’s and x1 636…and my love of them is x3! Very satisfied using the 636 out in the big bad world, and letting the old guys just putz around the studio. As one viewer noted: they can be grouchy at their age.
Love your comparisons good sir. It would be great to see one on the Audio Technica AE5400 from you.
Hi! I always enjoy your movie. thank you for your job. So. now I want to ask that what you think which one is better between AKG C636 and Neumann 104.

A few years ago, while setting up monitors for a concert I was mixing, I took the time to compare three mics. The new mic to us at that time was a KMS 105. A standard lead vocalist mic we often used the Bets87a, and the C535eb. At the time I had owned a pair of 535's that I mostly used as instrument mics. I had first run across the 535 at a club I filled in in the 90's, where they were the standard mic for drum overheads. Years later, when I found myself mixing a lot of summer folk festivals the 535 became a favorite for acoustic instruments (except banjo, where I always use a dynamic mic, a M88, 421 or a 57). On this particular gig I had set up a pair of wedges for the lead singer, and EQed them with the B87. Then I put up the 535 and the 105 and compared them. I found the 105 to be the flattest of the three, however when picking the mics up and moving around (close to the wedges) with them the 87 had the least feedback. Of the three I found the 535 was the most colored, but also sounded the most pleasing to my ears. I used it for the lead vocal night that day, I was quite happy with it. since them I have acquired two more 535's that I just love to pull out when mixing a group singing 4 part harmony's, or on the reed section of a big band.
I want to thank you best Mike review guy all the test covered actuality thank you sir.mr Brown.

Thanks very much.
Yes. Subtly, but definitely improved over the "vintage" model. Nice sounding mic. seems to have tamed that slight high mid "honk" on the 535. Wonder what it would sound like on an instrument! (But yes, still not up to the Earthworks, but we kind of expected that!) Mr Manual, what would you say? Sing?

which earthworks?
I really love my pair of 535’s, but at their age they can also be really grouchy and sensitive. Maybe the new version would be better suited for the stage! I really like them as drum overheads, but our singer loves to sing through them…but again, they really dislike staying up late these days and will start making random high frequency clicks to tell you so ;)

Same here. They get cranky (but damn they sound so good) I ended up getting the 636, and it’s much more reliable on stage 🤘🤘
"Ladies and Mentalgen"... Nice one! ;-)
& the final song ? ;-)
Lowest setting on the 535 is a reason i love it. It's (a pad and) a high pass filter at a gentle 4 dB per octave starting at 500hz, which is tailored for singers that "insists" on eating the microphone. That frees up the mixing desks EQ for better use. (Usually 2 bands.) High pass filters on a mic makes sense when like this, or when of other special utility use that !suits the mic!. Those 80 hz roll offs are from a different age, and are just more electronics that takes from the purity of the signal.
