I often read comments which are hurtful and critical of us British or American or Canadian pknis. We actually are not as stereotyped in the pkni dramas. Our elders have sacrificed greatly to establish here and they know HOW to value support and care for others and make new relationships and sustain them for decades. My family is one such example. I’m not new to UK. My dad came to Scotland in 1963. My mum was 17 when married in pkn 18 when she joined him with baby me in Glasgow They made lifelong priceless friendships. We are in England since I was 7. Most of the family friends are still in Glasgow And in London. Obviously the elders passed only my mum remains. She was very young then so now is just turned 74 this may We still honour these families now though my dad passed away in 1995. When my firstborn was 10 weeks old. We were raised to love and respect them and continue the links. I myself have supported many newcomers to the Uk over my life. Additional to the golden advice given by Sabeen, I would add that you can start off by just meeting people at a coffee shop or the park if there are children. Make a few sandwiches and go. Keep it simple and on neutral ground until you feel more comfortable and ready to invite others into your home for drinks and snacks. The progression is natural once you connect with similar people. Remember “birds of a feather flock together “ Avoid those who are not in your moral ground. Compatibility is always essential. Secondly, also bear in mind that us humans are each on their own unique journey in life. Other people will get onto our train at certain stations, then they get off. Allaah always replaces any loss with whatever is best at any given time. Don’t be upset but always appreciate and respect the contribution anyone makes to you and your journey and remember them well. Because life is also a process and a learning curve. People come and go yet they each enable us to grow and develop ourselves through the experiences we gain through knowing them. Even an acquaintance which turns sour has a lesson. No doubt some people don’t help others, others are far too liberal but many in pkn are that too. Give us a chance and you will never regret it.
