I always loved the Akeem gimmick. I miss slightly racist WWF

and 'racism' is exactly why the WWE (as it's now called) got rid of Hulk Hogan (I don't think the WWF, as it was called as far back as when Akeem was in it, was in any way intending to be racist, with his African gimmick) this isn't even why Akeem left the WWF, in October 1990 (his departure, by this point, was just his popularity beginning to decline, after Big Boss Man turned on him and their manager Slick)

A journeyman in the WWF, but the best theme tune.

Imagine this hitting in the middle of a rumble
Are they saying "die so broke" in the chorus? I can't make it out.
I remember when Akeem fell out of the ring through the ropes.
Not a goddam ‘ JIVE SOUL BRO ‘ 😂 👏🏽
RIP. Akeem
Anyone notice this theme beat has similarity to the mean street posse's

Now that he's just made it to his 60s, I don't know if he'd still have the energy to sing like this (this was way back in the late 80s, when he'd just made it to his 30s, hence he'd have had the energy THEN to sing like this). This is the unfortunate thing about ageing.

What did this song have to do with Hakeem? Sounds more like the Ballad of Slickster.

He was one of the wrestlers who Slick managed (hence he was entitled to use this theme).

Also it gave him the chance to dance in a way they felt fitted with the African gimmick.

Oh, and Akeem being African was merely a *gimmick* - George Gray isn't African in real life.
