The name 'Akala' comes from a Buddhist philosophy. The word itself literally means 'immovable'. When I think of this, it reminds me of Batman. When the Joker says "this is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object". Then I realised I'm just really stoned and played the video on repeat.

Two years later and I still get emotional when I hear this! I showed this to my dad and he literally sat silently after it finished for at least a minute. Everything Akala pointed out was my dads life growing up in this country.

I'm pretty sure Akala could go toe-to-toe with any of the American rap legends. Just because he's not world famous means nothing, that's to do with the US rap industry itself having the bigger spotlights shone on it. In terms of raw talent Akala is easily up there with any US legend.

It's kinda hard to say, most of the US greats have lost their competitive edge due to making millions.. but 90's Nas, Jay, Snoop, Cube and so forth were beasts :) But I feel what you're saying Akala is sooooo slept on. Simply because of his message he is shunned by the corporate music industry.

Well the UK grime music is very different than most American rap. Grime is similar to people like Tech n9ne and his chopping style, which is all about fast flows and lyrical skill on the mic. Akala possibly can go toe to toe but it's difficult to say.

I didnt say it was just about blacks so I would agree with that statement but he does also say "but with that said, lets not pretend that everything is the same" which anyone knows clearly means that race trumps class everytime. Working class whites never side with their class allies of other ethnicity's, but they do have a long history of abusing them, attacking them and killing them in many instances. Until we can address the issues of racial hatred class equality among Britains poor will always be a distant ideal.

As far as UK hip hop goes - Akala and Lowkey are on one level, everyone else is on another level.

Bits Rep as a hardcore borders advocate this is technically true. But the ultimate fact is these cultures of people do not mix. Groups compete and ultimately the competition results in harsh conflict when different people's and cultures are forced together in a "melting pot". Bits Rep I would like these countries (Egypt, Syria, Middle East in general) to be as they were during the ancient era in between Roman expansion and the Muslim expansion. Free of Islam and the peoples of these regions having freedom to self determination. Having their golden era of discovery back (Arabic numbers and scientific discovery and such). I believe their prosperity would resolve the burden we're having. But at the risk of being called a conspiracy theorist, that's not in Israels interests and they have the western world leaders at their beck and call

Its just insane the amount of truths put together in akala's lyrics. he has a super ability to pinpoint and collect major truths that the majority of people probably spend their entire lives trying to learn in a couple of minutes. Just mind blowing. If it were for me i would put him in the top 3 rappers of all time

Inspirational and knowledge about real issues. Educating in such a good way, it just brings out emotional expressions that we are left to otherwise keep suppressed and we get stressed and end up depressed.

Akala just dropped some deep knowledge in this song about poverty, racism and inequality and everyone in the comments decides to have a ''Who's the best rapper'' circle jerk. Akala is trying to send a message to people through his songs and you are all missing the point. It's the same everywhere, people forget what is real and focus on the superficial.

Haha I'm sure some of us are listening and I'm gonna share this. J. Cole, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac, Dizzy Wright, & Immortal Technique speak on similar issues throughout their raps. J. Cole deviates from this type of music at times but only if his label forces him to do so. He's my personal favorite because he's really clever with wordplay.
