    Really wanted these two back in the day....when I turned 50yrs old, I filled a rack with 900, 950, 1000, 1100, 3000, 3200xl....I used the excuse my Son was studying DJ and Music Production at University, but really it was a dream come true for me, and truly appreciate having them.....It was decades of waiting, but boy do I appreciate them, probably more to be honest....Love this channel, a real inspiration, and down to earth....I wish everyone was as kind and enthusiastic as this wonderful guy :-)

    the difference is night and day!! s2000 has a much more analogue warm sound to me just kiddin, I mean, it's super close really, like a 0.1% difference maybe, apparently the innards are the same, same sound engine /A2D D2A converters etc, s2000 came out 1995, s3000XL came out 1997 so any difference will be..... well, tiny. just my opinion though.

    The S3000XL, S2000 and S3200XL actually came out at exactly the same time in 1995! You're right about the internals though, they've all got the exact same converters inside.

    They should sound the same the S2000 and S3000XL use the same board, S2k is like a budget version with limited interface and missing some of the options of the S3kXL. The S3200XL had optional MO or HDD. Apparently the S3200 (non XL) from previous series is the one to have from Akais 16-bit samplers. There used to be really cool pic of all the S samplers in a rack and the keyboard next to it.

    I must say Bizzy..... Your videos have kept me going through lockdown! showing how to use octamed on the Amiga etc.. Its inspired me to get my old A600 out of the loft and use it again as I never made music on it before. Bought a copy of octamed 4 Pro and your vids have being very helpful and informative in how the program works. I have 2 akai S2000's one is maxed out apart from the eb16fx card. As you point out the s2000 has a unused area on the board saying s3000xl only. It can indeed feature a internal hard disk or Sd conversion inside by soldering a scsi connection on. I've being wanting to do this to one of mine but wondered if I could purchase a populated card with breaks to go in my machine that you have made as the software side of things really confuses me. Is there a website where you sell your sd cards and floppy emulators? Best regards, Nick.

    Listened with headphones …. This is really looking to find somewhat of a difference and if you want to find it you will most likely find or ‘hear’ it … I don’t believe their is a noticeable difference and if this was played in a Club and both machines were playing simultaniously and you would switch back and forth between both machines then NOBODY would ever hear the difference because it’s far too small to be noticed if your not looking. Great comparison, big ups man !

    s2000 user for lifeeeee i love this lil thingy it can do ANYTHING. but yea s2000 sounds slightly different than the s3000xl to me for some reason, like maybe the preamp has something to do with it bc it sounds slightly more compressed+high end feels slightly cut off, which kinda makes it sound heavier honestly and i love that. at the same time the difference is so minimal it's hard to tell if it's really there or if i'm just biased towards the s2000 lol. both sound classic as fuck to me tho, i've been wanting to get my hands on an s3000xl someday too. awesome video bizzy!

    nice...more curious if most DnB was done using a tracker program or Atari cubase and how. the "jumping/jump cuts" inside the sample when triggered is done...how can you get the same effect in a DAW...simply cutting the loop and rearranging gives the same effect i know, but it's as if it never really gives same sound. I guess big part is the pitch of the sample when speeded up/pitched etc. Is there a good video on this, then id. love to see :)

    Renoise kept asking me for a password the first time I installed it. Since formatting my system and reinstalling it, this problem no longer occurs. Seems that some people fixed this or a similar issue by moving the license file into the Applications folder. That's where it is located for me too at the moment. Good luck! As for the sound: they sound very similar. I feel like the S2000 sounded a bit heavier on the bass, but that's probably just my imagination. I have an S3000XL myself!

    Not much in it TBH but if I had to call it the 3000 sound a tad brighter, and I mean ever so slightly it's almost unnoticeable. I would say the difference is due to one of two things, and improved engine via a different CPU, not sure if it's different or not, or a different or improve output stage or quality of components. Output stages are really obvious if you compare a MPC 3000 to a S3000 or an MPC 60 to a S950, there are technically the same engine but obviously the outputs stages have been tuned for drums on the MPC meaning there are darker and compressed.

    S2000 is a bit darker and not as defined. S3000 is just a tad brighter, crisper and more clear. Very small difference and both can fly, depending on what the final, desired sound is. Any processing put onto either however, can really change things up further, or have them sound even more similar.

    it make no sense to me how someone can justify spending £3,517.00 on a Allen and Heath Qu-32 mixer who uses crappy budget monitors it would have made more sense spending the money on a decent pair of high end studio monitors that doesnt mask frequencies and has a fast transient response which is needed for drum&bass

  • @TheBizzyBScience

    @TheBizzyBScience

    You know, you've really got a point there. It's almost as if someone decided to focus on the heart of their studio setup, trusting the Allen and Heath Qu-32 to bring out the best in even the most modest monitors. Imagine the potential when I do upgrade to those high-end monitors you mentioned - the clarity and precision will just be out of this world, especially for those soulless drum & bass tracks that demand the best. It's like they're setting the stage for an epic sound evolution. Can't wait to hear how it turns out!BTW:Kiss my ass
