    I still use mine almost every day. Bought it when I was 18 years old and now am 49! Eek! I ordered a new capacitor kit just yet as she was starting to give me troubles. After replacing these 72 caps she will continue to live for a few decades more ;)

    Think about this: Almost all this amazing hifi from the past, were made in Japan.. This little country in the world, produced all this amazing stuff.. Most of it, can still compete with todays high end .. Today most hifi, is made in China, and hifi from Japan today, is extremely expensive... Unbelievable..

    While the LED's inside may indicate that there is a problem if they are not lit, that is not their purpose. LED's are a way of providing a stable current source for the amplifier circuitry. Luxman also used them in a lot of their amplifiers.

    the akai have a cleaner sound than the sony, Your akai should sound better as the sony. The big sony es amps i had where very good amps but not 100% clean, compared with the akai they are not as musical too. How did you test these amps?

    Yes we have done, both are excelent amps and sounds great. The Sony 555es sounds same clean and one big point is the Bass is better. The Akai not Bad but more flat. If you have the Chance to Test the first ES Sony try it

  • @vintagestereo

    @vintagestereo

    4 жыл бұрын

    jvc is niet echt mijn ding, heb er te weinig van gehoord om een oordeel te vellen, het 87 spul is niet bijster goed, maar sommige zoals de topmodellen zijn wel heel erg mooi

  • @RolfNoot

    @RolfNoot

    3 жыл бұрын

    Een JVC versterker uit '87 is allicht een stuk cleaner qua geluid dan menig surround versterker van nu. Tegenwoordig is alles class-D waarbij in feite het signaal wordt omgezet naar een blokgolf met een hoge frequentie. Voordeel is dat door het schakelen van de eindtrap de versterker efficient is: deze kan klein zijn en geeft weinig warmte af. Nadeel is dat alle bijproducten door de schakelfrequentie analoog moeten worden uitgefilterd. Al met al blijven er restjes achter: ruis, harmonischen enz. De JVC uit '87 heeft waarschijnlijk een class AB eindtrap. Het resultaat is daardoor qua geluid een stuk beter dan tegenwoordig, kijk maar eens naar de specs als THD (vervorming van het uitgangsignaal t.o.v. het ingangssignaal en de dempingsfactor). Vermogen zegt overigens weinig, tenzij je puur alles wilt laten dreunen zonder te genieten... Ben het wel eens met Andrew dat JVC uit die tijd redelijk doorsnee was, terwijl Akai bijvoorbeeld ondergewaardeerd was.
