Yes and no. You're not the AH for asking her to get a job BUT you're completely the AH for how you said it. There's a way to ask for help without bringing someone's dreams and ambitions down completely.

Slightly the ah, asking her to get a job is a very reasonable request and having her at least help you someway. But crushing her progress like that is disgusting

YTA I get that you need to carry all of the expenses and you work reslly long, but how about spending some of that money the invest in her comedy? Maybe then youll both be making money. And i dont understand why you refuse to let her be happy and her area of work has to be 100% for the money, and not her happiness.

How would "investing in her comedy" help? If she doesn't get paid, she doesn't get paid. I do agree that he went a bit far, but he's been supportive already. And as a reward, sounds like she's been a pretty shitty girlfriend that didn't want to listen and only have things her way. ESH. The OP shouldn't have lost his cool like that and the (probably ex-)girlfriend for being a crappy gf. Although the view is probably quite skewed thanks to only hearing one side. I'd say it's better to end the relationship, as I only hear resentment.

@@dude2215 If your lover is trying to do something they enjoy but isn't making money, try to invest in it to get better equipment, maybe hire some people, start your own business, etc. Instead of just straight up saying "you'll never get this job you have a passion for."

@@JazzyTheDrama how does that work? Is he supposed to produce a netflix special for her? Buy a comedy club? She's not trying to be a streamer where you can improve the by getting a better mic, she wants to be a paid standup comedian. If nobody want to pay her to perform, thats out of OP's hands. Besides he's supported her financially for a year, allowing her to put all her time and effort into her comedy. And she doesn't sound very appreciative of that
