If OP confessed to using the money for college, 100% dear ol' dad an Derek would have made him pay their boss.
@jakeryan4545
Ай бұрын
That's the only thing I could think of for Dad and Derek's actions to make any sense. Like OP, to me it seemed like a really weird and overly complicated solution to a problem with way easier ways to solve it. Like you have a new born son/grandson. I feel like saying that your new born son/grandson is starving is just as good of an excuse as stealing money to pay for a kids college. Even with the fact that apparently the boss knew the mother and I guess knew that the grandson wasn't biologically the mom's.
@domvasta
Ай бұрын
But would that have been believable at all after the way his Dad had treated him? "Hi Boss, I risked my job, my son's job and jailtime to steal money from you, so I could pay for college for the other son that I psychologically abused and kicked out before his 18th birthday because he was taking up space that I wanted to house my grandson and that was inconvenient for me, but here he is to confirm that story"
@domvasta
Ай бұрын
In a situation like that, to avoid getting a criminal record, I'd take out a second mortgage to pay off the debt, clear my own name and try and get my job back and get a written agreement from the son who stole the money that he will pay me back in full plus the interest and confess that he was doing it all on his own.
@sarahmarie1986

@@domvasta But how would the mother's friend even know any of that? To him the kid might just have gone away for college, was maybe even ungrateful to his father, who was still willing to risk his livelyhood for his late wife's ungrateful son.

"Do it for Dan" became a meme among this type of stories now. But also give a leverage to tell the experience of people who went through the same kind of bs. I had a semi "do it for dan" type of story but in a less degree, but for a cousin ... who i also refuse and my parents has like a "come to Jesus" moment just instantly after refuse and said my reasons. My parents want to gift PC parts i have from my old repair service to a cousin who was a jerk and a bum (now day he turn this around after had some fall down with his ex). I didn't, because i profit from those parts. Even more when he stole my AV cable from my PS2 in the past. I point out that very thing and remind them that "despite the PC was use by my godson too, he still hoard it in the past". They semi-got mad at the begin but i ask them one question: "would to you prefer to do the same for my bum of an aunt (his mother), who didn't do anything else but complain about us and negligent my cousins?" ... my mother kinda stare in silent at me for a moment before realize what i mean with that. Also one of the moment i genuinely had the "Money" excuse everytime i had the "what cost you?" excuse bs my mother spit, and her realizing why i keep those PC parts. Now day with inflation economy she is glad i said "money" as an answer for why i don't do "X thing" to someone. Down the line, that same PC went to my godson who has ADHD. And to him i don't had problem to repair his PC for free and gift any part he need in case of repair.

I’m very curious about what the police would have actually done if the dad had called the cops trying to get OP out of the house. OP was under 18 still so the dad would be calling the cops in an attempt to get them to help him neglect his own kid. Unless the dad made up a story about violence or something I don’t think that would go how he wants.

Jesus christ, the dad and brother are selfish and stupid. The boss is incredibly lenient and generous in not taking legal action for a couple of MONTHS to give them time to pay back the money, and they are still trying to weasel out of it.
Well I can't say the father and the brother didn't deserve what they're getting. I mean seriously they were given a job and they decide to steal from it? also I agree with op! if the money hasn't been spent just give it back! plus what's op going to do? just because he No the CEO doesn't mean he can suddenly make the Debt go away! that's up to the CEO. and they really expect him to do anything for them after the way they treated him his entire life? I'm just glad OP got a happy ending from this via the internship/job offer, and from the very employer that dad and "golden child" tried to scam. I really do hope that they both go to jail for their actions.
NTA, they can pay back the money Derek stole or dad can lose his job (he will anyway), Derek can be charged with embezzlement and go to jail. Derek's with won't be able to be a stay at home Mom, she'll have to vet a job.
Am I the only one thinking the his “uncle” could actually be his father. But she didn’t want to say anything because side she was truly in love with his “dad.” So, his dad resented him for exaisting because he thought OP may not be his child.
Honestly if im op i would call the moms friend and tell him everything about the " dad" and how much they "messed with op" and how much they're trying to mentally abuse op now and how theyre trying to emotionally blackmail op.. spill everything.. " i dont want a dad in jail" thats a good statement if he actually was your dad he wouldnt have booted you out just because....
What a spineless guy. He had the golden opportunity to completely shut it down and still gave them the easier way out. He should have called the employer, explain the situation and if he gets another word of contact he would call the cops himself. Or he could have called the cops and told them not only did his father and brother commit embezzlement, they’re actively harassing him to commit fraud. Get ahead of it before they have a chance to spin the story otherwise and lied to the cops.
Man I feel so bad foe the OP like how can someone do this to there own son. Like reslly and the nerve of this guy using that to try win over his son. Like please good for OP to stay clear
Ummmm no. Stay outta it cuz you'll go down with them. Also, you're probably right and I believe that lie won't fly. It's their mess not yours
If I were OP, I would have 4 words for dad and Derek: "Don't drop the soap." I would also tell mom's friend how they asked him to lie for them and say the money was for his college...
12:08 I got no words, there's so much wrong with this. Stealing from the company that took you in when you had no work, that your own wife/mother was friends with the owner, and you dare demand the child you threw to the wolves to bail you out? Lmao, just fucking wow.

You don't deserve all the pain If What matters in your Own hands is Everyone's trouble.
If their house is paid for, then dad should think about a 2nd mortgage.
So they abused you relentlessly and then expected you to lie to get them out of the hole they dug? Yeah hell no, if the company finds out you lied to saved them you could go to jail with them
The dad is a cruel piece of trash and so is the son. They have the absolute nerve to demand help from op after years of abuse. It wasn’t just “messing them around”. Op shouldn’t feel guilty. The father and half brother did this to themselves.
I would have ignored them completely.
"I was supposed to start college in a couple of weeks and that was already going to be taken care of." Okay. By whom? The maternal grandparents? A trust left by the mother? He's pretty vague on this point. Regardless, I don't understand how this cover story was supposed to make any kind of difference in their predicament. If you steal money and then use that stolen money to buy a present for someone else, that doesn't make the recipient of the present responsible for stealing and/or paying back the money. Were they hoping to somehow manipulate the situation so that the payback money would be taken from OP's college fund? Was that even possible? And if he had a college fund to take from, wouldn't that clearly demonstrate that there was no need to steal money for his college in the first place? There's no actual plan in this plan.
@Olimar92
Ай бұрын
I don't see why the source of the college fund means anything. It's just a nugget to say "They are lying, and I know that." The point of the lie was to try and get the CEO to give them more time to pay back what was stolen. They already had a couple months to try and pay back the debt without the Lawsuit, but they wanted more time. Why? obviously because Derek has already spent the money and it will take more time for them to try and get the money to repay the debt.
@zardox78
Ай бұрын
@@Olimar92 It means something if the plan was to eventually take from that college fund to pay back the money. If it was in a trust, then presumably no one could touch it, maybe not even with OP's say-so. If it was just coming from the grandparents, the same restrictions might not apply, but _they_ would be the ones who needed to be convinced to help. If more time was the one and only motivation for telling this lie, then what's the point in involving OP at all? How should he know where his loving and generous half-brother was getting all this money from? They didn't need his blessing just to lie about it. He wouldn't have even known any of this was going on if they hadn't alerted him to it. And why would they assume that a sob story would add any time to their deadline?
No see I wouldn't trust them not to lie, so I would've reached out to the employer who was my mom's friend and told him EVERYTHING and then begged to just press charges, that they need the wake up call.
I’d reach through the internet and slap the OP if he agreed to that asinine plan. Receiving stolen goods is a crime. Not KNOWINGLY receiving, just receiving them at all. So by agreeing that they did that “to help with his college” would not have been a wholesome thing to warm the boss’ heart, it would have opened the door for that company to sue all three of them. And since the OP has money for college they would have seized those assets, broken the required amount down three ways and as soon as the brother and father found their thirds, the OP would be trash floating on the wind again. Remember kids; when someone says “quick, tell them you were part of our crime” you reply with a laugh then walk away.
Op actually is giving his mother too much grace bc she allowed the abuse to go on.
You are doing the right thing don't get involved in their BS plus they were horrible to you your entire life the only reason they reached out to you is to save their sorry busts period
I’d say “Don’t drop the soap,” and start laughing.
Sounds fake. Way to similar to another story also involving the parents and getting kicked out, having their sister moved in with the baby occupying OP's room instead of the guess room and having grandparents involved. Only difference was the mom didn't die, sister didn't moved in with bf in the end, OP moved to aunt's house, parent's chewed out by the aunt once found out, grandparents threaten parent's inheritance, sister reached out to apologized for never doing anything to stop the abuse happening.
12:00 why do people in these stories always say the “only reason they haven’t been sued”when this is a criminal offense? you report someone to the police for and later you file the civil lawsuit once they’ve been guilty makes it so much easier
@TowaruTsura
Ай бұрын
Yea, they wouldn't be going to jail either.
No. The father already proved he would not be there for his younger son by kicking him out before he was a legal adult. No contract was made for people like this.
It seems like OP of this story inherited all of the brain cells and common sense and even the HEART that his father never once used.
Dad: You're not bringing any money back home so suck it up and do your chores. OP: Tell thst to your Fave son, DAD
Well, isn't this the consequences of my own actions. Op's dad and his brother are terrible human beings.
Lol let them both rot in jail.
I’d say accept the offer, go to the office with them and when they finish up the made up story of stealing money for you.. just deny it in front of the boss .. be petty.. let them have it .. will save you from them constantly trying to provoke you to help them out ..
Nah i would call my lawyer for mistreating a child then live with my awsome grandma
It’s weird that OP’s dad thinks that OP would be inclined towards friendliness, except for being angry about whatever. But… OP is fundamentally indifferent, unless there’s some kind of reason for him to give a fuck. And at no point have either of them done anything to warrant that kind of friendliness. The kindest thing he had to say about Derek is that Derek didn’t pick on him for a whole day, on Derek’s wedding day. So unless dad and/or Derek can cite ANY example of a reason OP should exert any effort at all… OP won’t do shit.
Thats wome of the craziest gaslighting ever.
