Only mistake which Gulshan Kumar did was that he didn't inform police timely to get police protection and didn't hire personal security guards . If he had hired the gunmen for his protection , he wouldn't have been killed so easily and untimely. Rajeev Roy a well known film producer also got threats from underworld. He timely informed police and got police protection. When underworld attacked on him, not only his police guards failed that attack but also encountered the gunmen who came to kill him. I have no idea why Gulshan Kumar didn't take threats seriously.

@@Eduhelper18 Gulshan Kumar was influential person. If he informed police , he could get police protection as Rajiv Roy got police protection. Gulshan Kumar could have appointed private security gunmen also. He was able to pay the fees for private security guards.
