Airstream Shell Lift Part 1 We Almost Died // In this episode we are working on our 1976 Airstream Sovereign Restoration and today is the day we lift the shell off the frame! After building an internal wood frame for the airstream shell, we use pole jacks to lift the aluminum shell off the frame. The wind picks up and things get a little interesting! Watch to find out our solution!

Recent subscriber here. Just wanted to say thank you for documenting your restoration! I just started the process of restoring my '75 Sovereign and, suffice it so say, I'm overwhelmed! I'm feeling a little more hopeful after finding this great resource though. Keep up the good work!

I’m noticing that you used different bracing than in your 3 Day Subfloor Replacement video. Do you have a diagram or more photos of the bracing you used anywhere? We’re getting ready to lift the shell on our ‘77 Sovereign, and I was wondering about the setup of the diagonal pieces you used. Thanks! Love your videos; they’ve been so helpful.

Got the subfloor out on ours to find some outriggers and c channel needs to be replaced. Going to be using this method to lift the shell. wish us luck! 🤘

Thanks, it was a little crazy. If I were to do it again, I would want to find a way to do a gantry lift and just remove the frame completely. But it worked and its going well!

Ian, thank you for posting this video! For my 77 Airstream LY, looking to pull the shell as well. I noticed that the buck rivets are removed from the straight segments of c channel but should we leave the curved c channel sections attached to the shell for the lift/subfloor replacement? Or do we need to remove the c channel from the front and rear ends of the trailer as well? Thanks!

I was wondering if you just atached the 2x4 with screws to the ribs? Also how many hours did you work on this airstream? Thanks for doing these videos it has helped me tremendously!

Yes, I screwed through the rib first with self tapping screws into the wood. Umm, I have no idea! Haha. The first one I would say easier in excess of 500 hours. A lot of that was learning. You are welcome!

I am so glad you didn't end up on the youtube deaths channel! My bottom was twitching with pure fear! I like the pole jack method you are using that would work in my situation with having limited space. I think you have everything set up great! Stay safe and good luck!
